  • Hope you had better luck with these slugs than I did....Least accurate slug I ever put through my 12 ga. Wingmaster with a rlfled Hastings barrel....10" spread at 50 yards is not acceptable.

  • What a waste of kool aid

  • I've read/heard that these rounds don't open up from many sources. Their Accutips are better is what they say..

  • nice gun

  • Very strange? I myself... disappointed that the slugs didn't performed as advertised by go big ads? Thanks

  • What was the range that you shot from?

  • 0 expansion? Did it hit the target backwards?

  • No expansion? is it because they are solid copper & do not have a lead core?

Good tests though, & they have some real impact!

  • I looked at this vid a few days ago, Got me all exited, So i went to the local Gunstore and got a price on these, WAS gonna buy a NEW Savage bolt action 12gauge, (About AU$850)

Then i got a price on these rounds,,,,,AU$35,,,,for "5"? Changed my mind and bought a 45-70,and a box of Winchester 425gr Hollow points,,,, $60 for 20.

  • @4E047RHH Holy smokes, 60$ for 20 rounds is still crazy expensive 3$ per round, no thanks!.... Just get a SKS or Ak or anything that fires 7.62x39, much cheaper for just plinking and having fun target shooting. I get 500 rounds for 120$ 0.24$ per round!! And, these rounds seemed to have jumped way in price, I bought some about 10 years ago for 20$ for 5, still stupid expensive imo....

  • @4E047RHH Ohhhh You're not talking US dollars.... Sorry, I have no clue if AU60$ for 20 is good or not versus US $.... Sorry....

  • @jonhomemade Well at the time i posted this, AU$60 was about US$64,

BUT,, here we pay a lot more for ammo, Through "Able Ammo" a box of Bird shot 12g is about US$3, here AU$9.50 Federal 30-30 US$16 here around AU$25 .45LC US$27

    Here almost AU$50, and .410 or 20G AU$15 to 18, for you,,,about US$7 to 10,,,,

So you can get some idea what i am bitching about, AND we pay around AU$8 for a box of Aussie made Winchester .22, How much do you pay there for .22 Ammo?

  • @4E047RHH I buy the Remington 550 count bulk pack of .22. Not the best ammo, but great for going out back and plinking cans all day. it's 18.50$ US for 550. I can't believe you have to pay that much for .22 ammo, that really sucks ><

  • @jonhomemade If we buy bulk, We can get standard Winchester stuff for $50 for 500, Or Federal on sale!!! $35 for 525 ,,,,But thats only till the current stock runs out,, after that it will be about $45, and again till the Aussie Dollar dies in the ass again,

But what i still dont get is the stuff MADE HERE, is still more expensive than the same brand imported, Go figure

  • @4E047RHH ya think thats bad i live in northern ireland for a box of 22 we pay 10 pounds which is about 14.68 AUD and for a box of 12 gauge we pay about 13 AUD not sure about the rest

  • @mrcr3amegg Well Greetings from Aus,,,AT those prices,, kinda inspires you to be a good shot dont it?Just wondering though,,, What brand and type of .22 ammo is the stuff you mention here? The only reason i ask is i know of some match grade target .22 stuff that is available here is madness price wise, and it would provide for a better comparison, Thanks

  • NOT THE KOOL AID!!! :O

  • @salg500 Oh, yeah!! ;D

  • @nsengstad

    xD

  • I had a Mossberg Trophy Slugster years ago & used these rounds for deer hunting. They were very accurate & expanded well, (in the few that I found in the carcass.

Now they don't shoot worth a darn in my H&R Ultra Slug gun & have switched to the Federal Premium w/ Barnes Expander.

Moral of the story - every gun has it's favorite round so do some testing! Good shooting everyone & thanks andreleger2001 for posting.

  • wrong gun. too slow to allow for proper functioning of projectile. perhaps ballistic tip would function better at such low velocity/stability.

  • is this the most powerful slug so far ? and which is the slug who does the most damage ?

  • @84singularity they all produce similar temporary wound cavities, but expantion wise, duplex are the best.

  • Why did you waste all of that kool-aid? Couldnt of you just of put food coloring in the water?!?!?!?!??!

  • Thanks... Gives-me IP ideas...

  • Sabot slugs= rifled barrel

    Rifled slugs= smoothbore barrell

  • I pulled one out of a deer, they do open up to almost twice of their starting diameter, so you start with a .5 inch slug and the petals reach almost 1 inch with 100% weight retention. The petals are sharp copper, so it's like a 1 oz, 1 inch copper propeller tearing through the animal leaving a massive wound channel. I've also pulled these out of wood and found no expansion. They are a very accurate and effective round for taking medium to large game where centerfire rifles are not allowed.

  • Those are sabots not slugs, sabots are made for rifled barrels

  • ive retrieved a copper solid after a kill and it expands way more than this, was he using a rifled barrel in the video, didn't look like it

  • No expansion, no good then. It'll overpenetrate.

What the **** is wrong with you people worrying about shooting through vest? Recreational shooting, not crazed gunman shooting spree.

  • Looks reusable almost.

  • @stalinwasright copper slugs should do fine against those. for the tougher vests use steel slugs such as from DDupleks (pretty expensive ammunition), those things are heinously powerful. you could also order bags of or complete surplus military flechette rounds, each dart is either steel or tungsten and you could fit 12-15 darts per shell. be warned though, if you shoot a material stronger than the barrel its fired out of it can really damage your gun.

  • @stalinwasright going to have to find special equipment for that, the bullet spins when fired and putting anything into the center without balancing it out could make the bullet tumble about before it hits the target, decreasing its accuracy, speed, and any chance it had of piercing ballistic vests.

  • I stopped using them because they caused too much damage to the meat when they separate. The newer Copper Solids open up but don't separate.

  • put steel in that middle, since it didnt expand you get armor piercing slugs.

  • foda!

  • To much damage to the meat???That guys a total idiot!!!!!That slug will not expand 95% of the time.Expansion is what causes trauma and a big wound channel. So If they do so much damage why would you stop using them???You don't know what your talking about. If your shot is in the chest cavity, your taking out the ribs and lungs. So what meat is being ruined.Shoot your deer with a 22LR in the ass,That's how smart you are!!!

  • Slug fail

  • haha all i can see is your wallet getting thinner each shot LMAO

  • @lHustonProductionsl The copper slugs have a lot more penetration though.

  • its not the same without the lead poisoning DX

  • They should have opened up. thanks for doing the homework.

  • Now thats better then slugs lol..

  • it should have mushrooomed.

  • You having a T-Rex problem going out of control since you need that thing?

  • mushrooming fail :-)

  • holy flying fuck

  • can these be shot out of a smooth bore or rifled only?

  • @USCisgay They can physically fire from either, but to properly stabalize them you would have to have a fully rifled barrel. Shooting them from a smooth bore will not produce the results they were designed to acheive as you will have keyholing.

  • @andreleger2001 im pretty sure you can use a rifled choke tube in a smooth bore barrel.

  • @USCisgay Do NOT fire from smooth bore. I'm not sure about doing damage or anything to the barrel, but the round DROPS like crazy coming out of smooth bore barrels. I know from experience. (at least they did out of my smooth bore barrel) At 20-30 yards they would drop 6-10 inch's. They are completely unreliable and not accurate at all fired from a smooth bore barrel.

  • Even if it did not open up, you hit somebody with that center mass, its lights out! Even if they were wearing kevlar armor the force will be enough to cause some sort of internal injury, broken ribs, internal bleeding, etc.

  • @dudespin Depends. If they're wearing Police style vests then yes. If they're wearing military vests, you will just piss them off, a lot.

  • @kop4321 A center mass hit with this shell will be severe enough to knock a person over, even with Military Body Armor.

  • @dudespin Doubt it. It might feel like a solid punch to the chest at the most. Although it might make them lose their balance, but it won't be a dramatic knock back at all.

  • @kop4321 I am fairly certain this would go though a IIIa rated vest. What rating does the military use?

  • @andreleger2001 Depends on the Military. A quick Google search can answer that for you.

  • Thank you again for another awesome video. My God it's brutal.

  • no expansion... weird..

  • god id hate for that to hit me

  • 2 2/3 wtf???

  • I prefer the Winchester BRI sabots. Just soft lead shaped like a shuttlecock. (badminton birdie)

  • at least it was purpo kool-aid :)

  • how many grains?¿ fps?¿

  • @lukes7711 We did not have a chronograph at the time of this test. I will try to chrono this one soon. 1oz=437.5 grains

  • @andreleger2001 gosh, use the fucking metric system -.-'

  • you could almost reload those slugs!

  • pry it out with pliers on the plywood board

  • can you run these through a smooth bore?

  • love to see it shot at a steel plate. The funny thing is its a hollow point made of brass. I was not expecting to see expansion. After years of shooting all kinds of things, I was more interested in seeing the penetration of a solid brass projectile.

  • Have you tested these on ballistic plate yet??

It would be interesting to gauge penetration from various slugs.

  • @MsWolfsfantasystudio We tested a standard (Foster) 12 Ga. slug on the IIIA plate we were testing and it was able to penetrate it. We did not try this particular brand but I would venture to guess it would go though it. We have recently acquired a few scrap pieces of much thicker plate to try. I was told it was level 8 which would stop anything we could throw at it (at least for civilians). I have never heard of level 8 and didn't know it existed. It is at least 3x thicker.

  • "Freezer full of water test" ROFL - Gotta love standardized testing.

  • man i used them sins they came out killed meny deer with them but ur right they dont alway open up so now i used the accu tip

  • Wtf!! Omg !! What a rocket:!!!Imposable

  • Everybody's askin y no xpansion??? The reason u r seeing that wall pattern on the side of the slug is ... unless i'm mistaking u did'nt use a rifled slug barrel. They prob came out of the muzzle doin flips like a punted football. "COMMON SENSE"... and for those who have none, It says on the box only use rifled barrels. With a smoothbore, use a rifled slug, then u can have the slug "spiral" out the barrel, go where u want em to, farther and faster. If u were using a slug gun/barrel, I'M SORRY!

  • now u can sell that copper

  • All that penetration is counter-productive.

It's exactly what you don't want.

That round is unimpressive on so many levels.

    Love your videos BTW.

  • You could've given that kool aid to some black people.

  • Uh.... weren't they suppossed to expand? I was all pumped up, I really wanted to see what the diameter of an expanded 12 gauge slug looks like... I'm kinda bummed now... do you think they would expand in a different target or is a slug just too slow to expand on impact?

  • @shmuckling This is an older design. See the newer design in the video responses.

  • @shmuckling copper solids are designed for penetration.

  • @apachepjh Well, more like they are designed to stay in one piece rather than fragment, which causes them to penetrate better/deeper. But you can do the same with any slug, pretty much. The idea with these little guys is that they are built to expand, delivering more energy and causing a larger cavity (more tissue damage/bleeding). He has another vid with a newer design on the channel, check it out - that one actually expands, it's awesome, to say the least. :)

  • @shmuckling they do. well at least the newer version. i shoot savage bolt action .12g and used the newer version of tthis ammo last year and believe me it put a hurting on the deer i shot...

  • correct me if i m wrong but they my open better if they hit soft tissue

  • Water will tear weak hollow point and some soft point bullets and slugs to pieces sometimes. Nothing wrong with the slug. The lead foster slug is very soft lead and expands with little velocity. They work great on black bear . For bigger bears some hard cast slugs and heavy solid copper sabot are available. Rifled slug barrels are for sabot slugs mostly. Smooth bore slugs shoot accurately to about 50 to 70 yards. Rifled sabot slugs will shoot as good as most rifles out past 150 yrds.

  • You badgers I love kool aid

  • With the price of copper can you imagine what these things cost?

  • @faffaflunkie exactly. about 12 bucks for a box of five. my foster style brenneke are like 4 bucks for five. and they drop deer like a hammer. but if you got the money, hey, what the hell right?

  • "improved cylinder choke" - what type of choke exactly please?

  • @TheBgcheez Whatever comes with the gun. At the time we shot this one, we did not have the rifled tube. It is either IC or Modified. I will check next time I am at Buddy's.

  • Hollow point design failure eh

    How fast do those go?

  • @VicariousReality7 At the time of this test we did not have a chronograph. I will try to chrono them in the future.

  • how come you found the slug shot into the board on this one and not in the others i love remington and slugs will take any deer down around here you have to shoot close range so it is perfect

  • @caleb5665 We searched the ground all around the area trying to find them but we only found a few during these slug test sessions.

  • all that kool aid, noooooo, im black

  • Wouldn't it - for hunting - at least be better to use a softer slug like lead? I am not saying these wouldn't cause any damage or anything like that. But I have always been taught that a flat slug = more delivered energy. Please correct me if I am wrong.

  • is the barrell rifled

  • @caleb5665 In this video no, it is a smoothbore with an improved cylinder choke.

  • I don't know why they would market a solid copper slug for hunting. The copper is so hard I wouldn't expect it to open very much anyway.

  • Not much deformation on those.

I love my 870. I have about 30 of those exact same shells. Thanks for showing me what they do.

How was the recoil compared to 00 buck?

  • @Machinistscott It is close to the same recoil.

  • @andreleger2001 how powerful are these slugs??? Are They instant man stopers?

  • @runhorun I would not want to get hit with one regardless of its expansion. Just about any slug from a 12 Ga has quite a lot of energy and mass. Roughly, the 12 Ga has about 2x-3x the 'power' of a .44 mag.

  • Hmm almost bet the slug turned in flight or tumbled instantly... either way they kinda suck

  • @godackgudalach1 no they dont i shot a deer in the head from 40 yards smootbore remington 870 with remington rifled slugs wich are foster style slugs and she dropped and rolled

  • ah of course the freezer full of water test a industry standard lol

  • the points expand better on a fleshy impact.

  • next stop, feral hog hunting!!!!!

  • try shooting it at a sand bage

  • @mcrob10792

    Bag?

  • is that a 870 super mag sps?

  • @skateboy159 Yes the 870 we used can shoot 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2" shells.

  • 0.33 thats what happens when you shoot someone in the head

  • It's still BIG FUN to shoot at stuff. I find old thrown out TV sets, turn them into zombies and send them to hell. The older and bigger the TV set is the thicker the glass tube is. Man do those vacume sealed tubes explode. I hate cleaning up afterwards.

I know, I know....I'm dealing with my issues in therapy on Thursday afternoons so don't worry too much.

  • @spikey614 Naaaaah fuck therapy,Just be yourself. Ive been blowing shit up for years and it always makes me happy

  • why did they not expand ?

  • @firefox8192 I would say there were at least a couple of reasons. First a smoothbore shotgun was used. Saboted slugs need a fully rifled barrel to stabilize the round. Second this is an older design. Remington changed the round considerably. We tested the new version and there is a response attached to this video with the results.

  • black people probly hate this video

  • copper solids are the only slugs I use in my 870 mag...fully rifled barrel and no deer I have ever shot went farther than 20 feet....last deer had aorta removed just above where it entered the heart...slugs must be fired from a gun with rifling...cannot stabilise like a brenneke on their own...test is seriously flawed

  • @flightdeck485 We retested with current production ammo with a rifled choke tube. Your right a full length rifled barrel would likely have stabilized the slug. I posted the results as a video response.

  • I don't believe your test at all. sure would have like to see the ones you breally pulled out of the wall. I have shot several deer with copper soilds and not only did the deer drop right away or with in 30 yards I was able to recover fully opened slugs. Not to mention the slugs from the hill we site in against.

    THIS WAS FAKE!!!!!!!!

  • @WillDogJones1 Lol. And what would I gain from that? If it makes you feel better the new design I just tested did much better. I will be posting the results likely early next week. This time we got current production shells with a rifled choke tube and it expanded great.

  • all theirs a lot of wouned deer in the wood becouse of them copper slugs just dont open up

  • @1hunterdale We tested the new ones this weekend. I will be posting the results sometime this week.

  • @andreleger2001 we use . hand loads we use 12 lee 1 oz mold use old trap shell case with 38 gr clays innation poweder put the slug in a wad you can kill deer at 100yds easy some guys have rilfed barrels and they realy hold a good patern at 100yds to and their cheap to i just use a 12gamoss smoth barrel with a turkey choke tube shoots very good

  • there are new copper solids now that are bigger and tear up some deer

  • geegz i neeed to get me a 12guge

  • lol just the slug is about the size of a 9mm shell with the slug

  • @ibanezkid07 That is probably true because I know for a fact the inside diameter of a 12 gauge shotgun barrel is 18 MM. In fact I was once told that in many cases the actual "slug" itself can end up being .50 caliber or larger depending on make and quality control. I would not be shocked if THESE are as large as 14 MM coming out of the barrel.

  • why are the slugs whole? is it cause they're copper?

  • have u tryed anything else? Anything work or is it all a money makin crock of shit? I have 5 of those and been saving em for a special occasion. I guess ill go bang em off now!

  • @MrAzcabowabo I have recently gotten a rifled choke to try to retest these. Also they have improved the design of these. I have the new design for testing as well.

  • @andreleger2001 yeah for some reason it looks to me like mine have straighter/flatter lines and dont cone over as much as yours do. Maybe i'll get 5 of the 5 gal water jugs out tomorrow and see. I have some hornadys and a few other expensive HPs that i'll give a whirl. You dont think itd make it all the way thru 5 of those jugs do ya? They're like the hard plastic water comp style 5 gal jugs

  • @MrAzcabowabo never even been in combat never even felt supreame love from a warm gat

  • @kevinh89 I would go with a non hollow point slug for bear... or run lol.

  • @andreleger2001 i say shoot while u run

  • Ah, the industry standard "freezer full of water" test. Very reliable.

  • hm,i would say a waste of kool-aid but that was awesome

  • lightfields baby

  • they have a new design for the slugs now, they're not cut into quarters either, haven't tested the expansion though

  • @gift3rs I have the new ones to test. I also have a rifled choke tube now. I will retest these in the next session.

  • Could you fill the hollowpoint with a polymer fill to force expansion?

  • @theantiredneck I'm not sure that would work in this case. It is just a bad design. I have been told the new ones work properly. I have some to test, and will post the results after the next session. The new ones look different than these.

  • thanks now i know not to buy those!!!!!

  • NooO! The Delicious Kool-aid!

Well, I used Remington Slugger 1 oz slugs, and I'm currently looking to buy some of those expanding Duplex slugs which you've also done a review for. I think I'll load the expanding/deforming slugs when I go out hunting this November, even if they don't penetrate quite as far as these slugs, they seem to impart more energy on the target.

  • do you know what that weighs

  • @1984izzy No at the time we made this video we did not have a scale. I have the current production ammo and will be testing it in the next session (along with our scale).

  • actually, you need a rifled barrel, no slotted hollow point expands or opens if it ain't spinning, a rifled slug barrel would spin that sucker at 45,000 rpms, easy.

  • @mrbadx19 Well we looked for a rifled choke this weekend locally and wer unable to find one. I did get some of the new Remington design of this slug for testing.

  • THAT IS AMAZING HOW THEY DON'T DEFORM.. ARE THEY MADE TO DO THAT OR IS IT BECAUSE IT WASNT SHOT FROM FAR ENOUGH??

  • @pureawsm94 I have been told that these were an old design and Remington has fixed the problem in the current production ammo. Also this was shot from a smooth bore shotgun. We are in the process of getting current ammo and a rifled choke tube for a retest.

  • take two more and shot them from 25 to 30 yars

  • Tried all Sabots other then Hornaday and the only ones that work the best are the Winchester Partition Golds and REM Core Lokt! Worst i've tested are the Federal Expanders by far don't waste your money try the winchester you will never wanna use another again i promise! I'd give the Platinum tips a 9.5 the Partiton Golds are a 10 and the Copper solids a 9 and Core Lokt 9.5. These are the only ones i'd ever use but i've been shooting the Partition Golds for 3 years now and im more then Happy!

  • nice! how much are those??

  • Please note:

I've used Copper Solids for years and I love them. HOWEVER--the ones in this video are very different than current production. In '99-'00 they went from this horribly performing style to a new, much improved one. The new ones open up like a flower and are deer devastators. 2 yrs ago I took a doe at 140 yards, AFTER the slug passed through a 3" tree branch at 70 yards. Perfect expansion, too, amazingly!

Do a Google image search for Remington Copper Solid for pics of thew new ones.

  • @jaconaway You are correct in that these are old production rounds. I pulled these from an old stash. I will get some of the new production ones and test them. Thanks for pointing out the change.

  • @andreleger2001 Great! When do you plan to do that? I look forward to your results. When using the old ones in the 90's their performance was dismal, including poor blood trails because the petals simply snapped off upon impact and the slug would not expand. Maybe that was by design, but it didn't work well for me.

With the new ones, I once shot a deer facing me and it went full length, perfectly mushrooming and lodging under the skin at the hindquarters. IMO they now perform quite well.

  • @jaconaway I think they carry these at the Bass Pro, which I may pass by at some point. It is a little out of my way, but I will try to grab a box of current stuff for the next test session, which should be in a month or so.

  • can someone clear something up for me please are all 12 gauge shells the same width?????

  • @mista1kaos Yes. There are different lengths however and you should make sure you gun is rated for them. Standard shells are 2 3/4" and magnums come in 3" and now 3 1/2". The back 2 3/4" on all 12 gauges are all the same. Gauge actually refers to the bore width. Its the number of lead balls of that width that equals a pound if I am not mistaken. So 12 lead balls = 12 gauge and 20 smaller lead balls = 20 gauge. The only exception is .410 bore which is the measurement in inches like caliber.

  • @andreleger2001 thanks for the low down mate .. kool.

  • Are these copper slugs still available? I have not been able to locate them.

  • @gardee37 Check basspro. I think that is where I last saw these on the shelf.

  • would i need a rifled shotgun barrel or could i shoot slugs with just a normal 12 guage barrel un rifled

  • @ChazOneZeroSeven get some winchester super x (i like thier slugs) not the sabot slugs unless you have a rifled barrel

  • @akshooter762 oh okay thaks
