dont know how ive managed it but ive never cut myself on my trowel, tho someone helped themselves and used mine without asking and he went and cut himself, serves him right i guess tho the cheeky get!
i fell on my trowel and it cut my wrist to the bone. cut tendons, nerves, and the artery. luckily we were working in a hospital when it happened and they got me right into surgery. the doctor said if we had not been there i could have lost my hand. i was off work for almost a year. my trowel was five years old and i could have shaved with it. now my back is screwed up and i cant plaster anymore. they let me run a crew now. i did it since i was 16. took three years to learn. the rest to get good.
Painfull!Yeah my trowel is like a razor aswell got loads of little scars on my hand from not looking! The cut is so fine they seem to take ages to heal and bleed like a bastard if you've had a few beers the night before!
When a plastering trowel is worn in its as sharp as a scalpel. its very common for a plasterer to get cuts on fingers/thumbs from wiping skim off edge of trowel. but i have a habit of putting trowel handle in my pocket so i can cut off skrim to tape joints. Like this day in particular. not looking i cut skrim n also back of thumb. shit happens.

dont hold trowel between legs (previous comment) think wot might get chopped off - you do seem accident prone.

Yeah but u'll agree its better to cut your fingers catching it than having to buy a new trowel n spend months wearing it in.
My 1st trowel someone dropped & bent a corner (not much & wasnt told) it makes your work harder & slower.
