Exceptions do occur, but an airbag doesn't deploy like that. If you can hear the old lady's handbag hit the fender, you'll definitely hear the explosive charge inside the airbag go off to deploy it. I call BS.

There's no way the airbag deploys itself because of a minor hit like that. Airbags only deploy on major impact. Not even a minor fender bender would deploy it. Mythbusters had an episode on this I believe.

@imaref85 airbags don't deploy on impact but on sudden acceleration and deceleration. If the sensor was loose, misplaced or something like that, a hit like that could trigger it.
