@nicodanger13 You think this is just a stupid "Sport"? This is like Formula 1 racing, but +- 10 G's, at 200+ MPH, just feet off the ground. This is the most skill-involved sport in the world. Let's see you do this.
As in in many areas, things will continue until death occurs, reaction rather than action, usual thing nowadays. Now, come on, be honest, did he rally aimed to be so low? perhaps, they are amazingly skilled, but I have a doubt on that 1. There pride will make most of them lie anyway so we will never really know. They know what they are doing, same for downhill people, they know, but still one day they take one: This level of performance is achieved by surfing on a very thin line!
IMHO, you're already flying 200+mph, 30 feet off the ground. The margin for error is FAR less than 99% of the world's population's flying abilities, even in a cessna. Hell, I don't fly r/c aircraft that low. I say let 'em get as low as they want to. It's their own lives at risk. Over the water, the risk to spectators is minimal.
Alejandro Maclean is a whining pussy, trying to get rid of a competitor by any means. He and Hannes Arch are two people who are always bitching about other pilots but somehow does not seem to be able to quite get to the top themselves. Coincidence? I think not. Poor sportsmen and piss poor performers.
jelous asses. they were just pissed off because they couldnt do what he was doing. the man knows his vehicle. no diference in what he did and a truck driver driving down tight city streets or construction zones. you gotta know your limits and the size of the vehice your operating.
They're concerned about the height;not just for the pilot's safety, but for the safety of all of those that are close. That's why you disqualify him. And before you say "nothing would happen! everyone's safe!" just look and see how many air show crashes happen every year.
surely if he was closer to the water, and crashed, he is less likely to hit bystanders... but, any motorsport involves danger... check out world rally with the bystanders at the trackside!
Well, if the man likes to fly low, let him be! ''OHH, WHAT IF HE CRASHES??'' WHO CARES?!?! he's happy flying 10 ft off the ground! why desqualify him?
@RFTAEC100 maybe because this is too dangerous? you're right, its his fault, but this maverick-attitude isnt the sence here. its a sport and in every sport there are rules!
isnt the point of the red bull flying races to fly to the absolte edge????..... the guy did a sweet job if u ask me shoulda got more points for risk factor!!!!
Well you'll pass out long before 23Gs. The average person will likely lose consciousness between 6 and 10 but I think what he says is 23 is the max before a person can be killed from the pressure.
That spanish guy needs to shut the hell up. What a toss. Obviously he is alive and he didn't break any rules at all, so what was wrong with that extraordinary display of flying?
i never imagined the issue of flying low in an air race....thats like running too fast in athletics...its just too strange to understand...and to see other pilots eat shit about that makes it even weirder...
TRUE Prophet predicted to the day every milestone in the reduction of the Obamessiah to Nobama. //// From botched to secret oath the next day to freaked out human cattle in Manhattan Google SUICIDE OBOMBER NEW YORK AIR FORCE ONE Script for Terminator Clinton and Hussein playing Jesus Christ the impostor in anti-Bible /▌ / \ All explained before published by Illuminati by Matt Marriott /▌ / \
Flying low, while in itself can be considered dangerous, is perfectly normal, especially if you have a professional pilot behind the stick. Airshow pilots normally get low, either on knife edge, or inverted to wow the crowds. Getting low WHILE racing around and through pylons just makes it even more of a wow factor.
I think it's good that those who makes the competitions do consern the safety of the pilots rather than making the crowd get a so called ''wow'' feeling.
I'd have loved a dolphin jumpig out of da water right when his left wing goes low...errr, yes, insurance company? I got hit in mid air by a dolphin. LOL!
The reason why they are still alive, is great skills, and great ammount of luck.
the reason mike wasn't disqualified is as he went through the gate ( which is how they judge low flying ) he was at the right hieght. the new rules are that you are not allowed bellow the centre marking of the pylon but you can go as low as you like in between as long as you get that low in a controlled manner( eg. diving at the ground )
I think he's dancing on razor blades. But he knows the risks. If he wants to cut grass in an Edge540... let him. It's a relatively controlled environment. I hope he knows that if he dies... theres hundreds of other pilots willing to take his place.
There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots.
The race is young. The company that runs these races cannot afford a single tragedy. Even without deaths Red bull races are under severe critic. A crash of a plane can be the crash of business.
Someone did get DSQ'd for that at a different event, right? I vaguely remember the announcers whining about how it wasn't fair to disqualify so-and-so because of how good a pilot he was...
If they weren't meant to go low, i'm sure the gates would be higher. I will put money on the fact that most pilots would prefare not to ditch, especially doing in excess of 300kts.
Would somebody explain what is the issue here. Im not a pilot....Thanks...Are some pilots complaining becuase MIke flew too low ? Is it cheating ?? Whats the issue ?
I don't think they would be hurt that badly--they're not going that fast, and the plane doesn't weigh anything. Surely they have protections around the cockpit, don't they? How would it be different from an Indy car driver hitting a wall?
they're going an excess of 200 mph, thats quick. indy cars arent flying towards the ground also, they are just moving horizontally. there are some protections but at 250 mph it doesn't really matter.

Only thing found was a piece of the dashboard plastic. Assume they lost visual and were too low, touched the water! I would rather see a rule that does not allow an aircraft within a meter of the water. When someone is killed, then it will happen.
