A diesel should blow some black smoke and in this case the guy is lugging the motor and there is not enough air to burn all the fuel thus making the black smoke, it does not make valves and pistons wear out faster the only bad thing about it is that much fuel burns very hot and can damage the turbo. Idiots. Smoke is bad, not only environmentally, but for your engine. I'm from the old days...6-71s, NH220s/262s...the more smoke, the more valve, sleeve and piston wear...it's THAT simple. Maybe dumb southerners think that's "cool," but it's really lame. When the N-series injectors and 4 valve heads came out for Detroits in the late '50s, all the smoke went away...and engines that used to last maybe 300K miles then could last twice that.

Stupid. Why don't you actually let it eat. Instead of killing your converter, getting your cylinders hot, and lookin like all it will do is blow smoke. I'm not one for blown smoke up peoples asses. My truck smokes, but it also clears up when I build manifold pressure (boost, for those who arnt old school) it's called using all the fuel to make max power. Not getting a woody to a waste of fuel.

@classicchevydriver its a HT3B and yes they are compound twin. i knew the kid who build them. pretty easy to put together, he did it in his garage. you could use a s400 and put it on the passenger side making it easier. and then tap into a oil supply and have the return go into the oil pan. just would have to tap into the pan.
