It's still working alright. I use my Palm Pre as a WiFi Router just about every day @ work. webOS appears to be going on strong with version 2.0 right around the corner. It looks like it will come with more capabilities/apps e.g. voice recorder, adobe flash, screen keyboard, etc..
do u have to pay for this. cause i might be returning my hero and buying the palm pixi. can the palm pixi do this as well once u enable dev mode and install preware?
The Palm Pixi doesn't have WiFi, but the Palm Pixi Plus, Palm Pre, and Palm Pre Plus do. If you're on Verizon and have the Palm Pre Plus or Palm Pixi Plus, it's completely free. Otherwise, this app will be a one-time cost of just $14 for the paid version. Preware is not required for installing this app.
basically if you have service and your on the road with your laptop in the car and you have wifi tethering on, you can actually be on the internet in the car?
A tethering app may already be an the App Catalog for Verizon Palm Pre models as a hot spot app. However, MyTether is a homebrew app that's not available in the App Catalog that will benefit Sprint and ATT Palm Pre models. Try mytether [dot] net for details.
Yes...the Pre was already in the works during the mid 1980's. This kind of technology could have already been available to the public long time ago! :)
hi , when you connect your laptop to the wireless router on the palm pre, i mean where does the wifi connection comes from the first place ? n if you are connected wirelessly to the palm pre router on your pc , is that using any of data or does it charge you anything for using that connection on your laptop please ? i am getting a pre this week so excited :) .
Perhaps not with the Pixi, but it should work fine for the Pixi Plus which includes WiFi. The 1st Pixi model doesn't include WiFi. However, you can still use the Pixi to function as a USB Router.
uhm no sorry. the reason is, you need the driver to use the tethering which cannot happen unless you are a hacker genius who can get into ur xbox. if you find out how, let me know.
Ok max this video is very helpful but i have a problem i did everything it work and everything my pal had the 1.1 or wat ever before the new update 1.2 and 1.2.1 came out my thether was working find i update to 1.2 and 1.2.1 and is not working no more it i dont see ahoc no more i even check with my iphone and niutting is my theher block or something
check precentral(dot)net to get this app. i already got it and its freakin awesome. they have a free version one and a pay version. pay version is for faster easier install :)
alright well im thinking bout getting the pre.. itll be my first real cell fone.. is it worth it? and is this still possible to do at this time? and wats the application called? and how u get it and where
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow......now thats some sick shit .....i got sprint ...and i haft to get that phone. ../now i phone need to step up fast.... a router ..dammm
thank you for putting this on YouTube. I have been watching and learning about the Pre since it won the awards at CES. Your video has really opened my eyes. More percise instructions would be very much appriciated! Thank you again for sharing! I love my Pre!
correction. pda net can use phone as modem. not as router.. it is a big difference. u can coneect 10 computer at once with one pre but not wiindows mobile
pdanet does not provide routing services. according to setup instructions for pdanet, you must use your computer as the router. turn off your computer and try to connect your wii console, ipod touch, or wifi printer to your smartphone pdanet; it won't happen..but with the pre it will work by itself.
palmpreflix - opps, i didn't mean pdanet, i meant WMWifiRouter - it's the app i used on my HTC Diamond to connect up to 4 devices, i only used it for my iPod Touch and my Netbook, it got really hot after a while.
wmwifirouter sounds like it provides similar functionality. now only if they can drop their price from $19 to maybe $2....or even FREE like the Palm Pre
yes there are ways for networks to monitor their data packets but implementing this would degrade and reduce the speed of their network by adding conditional scans across billions of data packets. this would upset subscribers and they would lose thousands of clients to other networks who don't mind tethering (verizon?)
where did u get the tethering application... if its the same one u get from the homebrew app list then thats the one i got.... do i need to do anything else?
That sounds like the right tethering app. You'll also need to install the webOS internals services package if you haven't already done so. Otherwise, you're ready to tether all you want with multiple WiFi devices.
Think of it this way. Sprint's plan permits unlimited data access so you can browse the internet whenever you wish. Comcast and DSL providers permit unlimited data access as well so you can browse the internet whenever you wish. Does Comcast or DSL providers have a way to prevent you from sharing your internet connection (or tethering) across 3 or more machines with the use of a Wired Router or WiFi Router?
hi palmpreflix. i give u alot of credit for getting that to work. ive have been up for hours downlading a million different programs to turn my pre into a router and i cant get it to work. i have palm sdk, virtual box, and a palm app brew program downloaded to root my pre and computer. i just cant get it to work so i give u props. i kepp watchin ur video in envy now lol.
Here's the results from a test I've just performed. Starting at 96% battery life, I ran Pandora on the Palm Pre which is an Internet Radio app that access the internet. After 1 hr, the battery life dropped to 76%. So from this experiment, the Pre could run for about 4 hrs before you would need to recharge or swap batteries. There are also higher capacity batteries available for the Pre now.
I'm working on putting 2gether my notes and docs so it would be easy to follow. i'll post it thru the linked URL. Otherwise, I recomend you do research online related to
a) downlding/install the correct drivers for Pre's USB device
b) downlding/install software to connect to the Pre through the right port # and logged in as root
c) while logged in Pre's linux environment, enable correct settings and downld tether app
& finally, exprss yor appreciation 2 the folks providing these resources
The Palm Pre uses WiFi 801.11g which means it can route information across other WiFi devices at a bandwidth of about 54 Mbps. However, the Internet access bandwidth through Sprints 3G EV DO is theoretically regulated to about 3.1 Mbps for download speeds and 1.8 upload speeds.
