Why such big ass holes? If you wanted you COULD actually just cut a small 2x3 in hole behind the tv to run ALL your wires and place a single gang wall plate over the hole so its cleaner....OR if you must, buy a vanco in wall power kit with a separate low-voltage channel to run your a/v wires....Im sorry but you tore that wall up way too much.
im a professional installer and ya dont need to hack the wall up so bad to install over a fireplace there are special power and cable plates you can buy this oviously was done by a unskilled homeowner
Thanks for posting. Great Job. Your setup is very much like mine. Its not as difficult as I expected. I should have tackle this 3 years ago when I bought my home.
Is that a real fireplace? I guess you didn't get the word. Why do people insist on putting TVs above fireplaces which results in heat failure in many cases?
Bring me to life? really dude? its already overplayed on every other genre of videos, let alone a wall mounting vid... but thanks for the helpful vid nonetheless. :)
CHEAP ASS SETUP UP SHOULD HAVE PAID BEST BUY FOR A PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION... GUESS YOU LEARN YOUR LESSON... IM SO TIRED OF IGNORANT PEOPLE TRYING TO CUT CORNERS AND SAVE MONEY WITH DIY PROJECTS... SHITTY INSTALL GUY....
your probaby the type of jackass that best buy makes they're money off of over priced products and services, Or you just dont have the brain power to do shit yourself Go fuck yourself!!!!
@LICKPIMP What an idiot. Just exactly what would Best Buy have done so differently than this guy did? Nothing. Nothing that matters anyway. While not what I would have done it's a nice clean install. You should probably troll somewhere else where you make a little more sense. My guess is that probably isn't going to happen so you're just stuck sounding stupid. You calling someone else ignorant is funny. Typing in all caps is the icing on the cake. Go elsewhere trollboy.
Nice install, did you have to go through studs when you ran the cables between the openings? If so, ho did you get through the studs without messing with the dry wall?
Looks just like Craig's List Contractors install! No drop cloths, low voltage and high voltage in the same box without a divider, cable television wire in the same box too... this is far from a how to video. Stick to your day job.
Nice video. I never would have thought to use an access panel. Great idea. I like to use the smallest hole possible so I used those small round desk trim hole covers meant for computer wires.
I will be doing a very similar installation in the next few days, running cables to the left of my fireplace. Sharp 52"
The only difference is that I have a giant window that butts-up against the fireplace on the left side. Not sure if I will be able to run cables as the window might be to close.
You shouldn't run any power cords through the wall. As in the video, you should have a dedicated outlet for the TV. As for the HDMI, use an electrical fish tape or if you are going straight down the wall cavity, a string and weight can do wonders.
Great install! Way to pull the wire diagonally like you did! You must have opened the wall on one of those studs to run the cables around it? Try some LED lights behind it too, good job.
All of these comments on the TV being too high obviously don't have neck issues. The first thing a chiropractor will talk to you about relieving neck issues is to keep your chin up. This is the same viewing angle that students look at instructors, or at a movie theater.
I see alot of talk about code issues, you have to understand...probablly 75% of wallmounted tvs violate code in some way, the powerd cord through the wall, mixed voltage boxes, etc. Not really a HUGE deal, think about how many electrical code violations are present in an old house...like an outlet in a closet for example. I wouldnt worry about his install...alot of stuff that MEETS CODE is more dangerous depending on the quality of the job lol.
Give this person some credit.I'm sure they are not that dumb to place it above a working fireplace. A tad, just a tad off center but I think it looks great. Nice job.
Also if you need to go around studs it's easier to make a small hole on either side of the stud and chip a piece out of the stud, then simple fish your wires around the stud and plaster over them. Much easier than trying to drill a hole through the studs.
Buy an electricians "fish Tape" they are very cheap and you can get then in metal or plastic, feed it down from the top hole to the bottom hole, tie your cable to it and pull it through. I dont own this video but have done this on a few TV's and is quite easy. Hope this helps you.
how do you get past the stud that between the 2 holes? If one hole is above fireplace and the othert is on te bottom and to the left I`m sure there is a 2x4 between the two holes
You make a hole either side of the stud exactly opposite each other , then knock the plaster off the stud and chip a notch out of the stud, you then thread the wire out through the hole across the stud through the other hole and then down and out a third hole. When you plaster over the stud the wire should be just below the surface.
that looked amazing with the christmas decorations. i cant wit to get my hdtv, im putting mine on the wall also. im taking the easy way out tho because im gonna have my stand below the tv and that will hide the wires. and once again, setup looked amazing 5/5
I was wondering. I have to hook up a digital box and a dvd player. I didnt see is that connected to the 6x9 plate at the bottom? I dont have the tv yet and Im redoing our bedroom. Do you recommend buying it first. I was going to wait till we had the new bed room furniture then mount the tv. So its at the right height. Any suggestions. Great video loved it.
Yes I recently bought an audio pier and placed it next to the fireplace on the left. It is directly in front of the white box. Now you can run these wires anywhere in the room if need be. Just remember that you will need to place a cabinet, an audio pier or a shelf in front of the white access panel. Where are you placing the TV? Tell me more about the layout and if you have a basement or attic?
Great video. How would this differ if you had to route wires in an exterior wall? I have a prefab fireplace and am planning this project. Mounting the tv seems easy. However, routing the wires seems difficult. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank You very much for the video. This was the perfect video because I'm mounting my tv above the fireplace as well. My wife thought I was crazy when I was talking about doing this.
Behind the fireplace (if it is a natural gas fireplace) it is hollow. I did not beleive it until I saw it with my own eyes. There is just a 9" tube running up the length to the top.
Good Luck with you mount.
It has been over 6 months and I have had no problems with my set or while using the fireplace.
Remember to check Ebay or other sites for cheap mounts. They are all made in China so it does not matter what you buy.......
You can do it very easily if you use the access panels. As far as wiring the socket, you need to really know what you are doing. Hire an electrician or find someone with experience. Also, it would be a really good idea to make sure that their is a GFI on the circuit.
If there are straight drops in your cable run you can usually take off the baseboards and drill out the studs behind them, then replace the baseboard over the drilled site. I've seen people on the internet fishing cable runs with magnets which looks fun, but fish sticks work great. Also watch out for the electrical. its prolly illegal to be running flexible cords in/through hollow wall spaces.
kloned very nicely done are you a member in the avs forums? do you have aim/msn ? your work is awesome mounting the tv is one thing but you did that and beyond with the wiring conceled.... whats a level built? and something about 29 bucks on ebay? please share any comments thanks oh and on avs forums im gus738 pm me will ya?
