i know you might not answer to this.. do you have a slower, sader version... the highest pitched violing needs to cry in agony for me. and the entire movement seems more enjoyable to me when it is played slightly slower
This is Austrian written For the Hapsbugs of the Austrian Hungarian Empire example this was played 16 july 2011 at Archduke Otto von Hapsburg funeral .
@EarlyRave84 actually, only part of upper austria are technically germans, most of austria were slavs
also, austria gained indipendence from bavaria long ago
austria has it's own culture, history and partly own languages (although politics try everything to annihilate those languages) for example, the language in vorarlberg is no where near high german
the usa are ethnic british, spanish, portoguese, etc. but they gained independance
@EarlyRave84 Yeah, Germany and Austria are like Argentina and Uruguay in South America, I mean same language and accent, same heritage and similar country.
keep your lives alive for as long as you, do you hear the complaint of the violin? The violin cries on my shoulders. relief be yours for whole the music cries for being silenced. How beautifully exquisite music of peace and unity at the tips of fingers sent into the air so lightly...
Stunning, thank you so much for putting this up. The associations that are made with this are unfortunate and should not detract from a stunning composition.
This quartet is a HIP quartet. HIP stands for Historically Informed Performance, meaning that this ensemble plays instruments modified to the state they were when they were made in the 18th century, use gut strings or metal wrapped gut strings, and play with the taste and style of the classical era (which is surprisingly different compared to today's conservatory playing style). The intention is to replicate the sound of the era, and to play in a way that would have been familiar to Haydn.
Thank you for the information, I looked it up in the net, and now I know.
It seems to me that this performance is not only historically informed, but the members of the quartet did their performance with love for the music, which cannot be taken for granted.
But I guess they have to, because it should be very hard to reach a level on which one is able to play in this way.
Dear sir, Papa Haydn was a beloved man in his age, and a very, very nice person. Haydn happened to be quite generous and was no zealous jew-hating NSDAP member.
Please do not be so unfair and stereotypical towards people of Germanic heritage; it is really despicable and mean-spirited.
gott in himmel; the germans wrote the most glorious sange of the last 2 centuries. i'm so proud to be of german heritage; gott segnen uns, gott segnen deutschland!!!
actually, to add on to that Takekaze, the song 'Horst Wessel Leid' was originally just a salvation army song till its writer Horst Wessel was killed, and because he was a member of the NSDAP, they honored him in death by making his song a national song, but yes, NOT the Anthem
As a Romanian from Siebenbuergen, I was always thinking as this part as OUR Anthem, when our wonderful province, a wreath of nations (ein Kranz von Nationen) had actually been part of the European civilization...
Yes. And after that, Haydn made this movement in the quartet out of it. Hoffmann v. Fallersleben wrote the text for the german song - and well, now it is the german anthem. Funny history.
February 1797 - first performance of the Kaiserlied (= Austrian anthem)
September 1797 - first performance of the Emperor's Quartet
And yes, the anthem of the german emperor (it was the prussian king's anthem, "Heil Dir im Siegerkranz") before 1919 had same melody as the british. But is was the king's and the emperor's anthem, not the german. That's a difference.
germany offered them the "kaiserhymne" after the second world war - but the austrians were too dumb to take it back, because they already had a new one...and i hate it....i love this anthem...well...i think its still kinda the austrian anthem...
Viva Haydn!!! This not (only) merely the German national anthem, this is the anthem of all the free Europe that fought aginst the barbarity of the French Revolution and the tyranny of Napoleon.
No, the Horst Wessel Lied was never national anthem of Germany.
The barbarity of the French revolution? Without that the freedom movements of 1848 would have never happened in Europe. The barbarians in Europe were the kings and emperors after all. The French revolution was harmless compared to them.
@tmbl91 And they only use the 3rd stanza now as their national anthem to keep the hegemony aspect down that so many-Russia, France and Britain in particular, believe is in their ancestry. Have no opinion one way or the other but I DO KNOW when West Germany became the Federal Republic of Germany they could use the 3rd stanza ONLY and is still true today since the reunification. No one wants a repeat of the 1st 1/2 of the 20th century
I don't know why, but it almost sounds like the players don't have control over the sound. Which is weird, because they're very very good. I guess it's in my head.
I remember you (or someone else) saying something like that on the Mozart c minor fugue post. And I don't really buy it, because I've heard plenty of extremely clear period recordings. If there weren't, I wouldn't make them the primary recordings I listen to every day.
I don't know what I meant specifically. I had the general impression listening that they sounded almost as if they were about to go out of tune at any moment. I said it's probably just in my head. shrug. sorry.
Ehm I'm Hungarian and I can dare to say this wasnt the anthem of Hungary. This may was in the Monarchy but we had our own Anthem after all. I have to admit ,we sang this back in time, in the time of Monarchy but because it was necessary :P
Anyway I like this <3 It's main theme captures my attention very, so...
