@jackslaughters... Hi. Sorry you don't like straight pool, but if you don't like it why would you watch it? Only an idiot would spend almost an hour watching something he thought was a waste of time. There are some of us that actually LIKE straight pool and watching high runs. When you are practicing high runs that is the way you break, and now some of the individual high-run competitions like DC use that first-break format too.
@jackslaughters why wasted? some people like that. other people could say that you wasted time with cleaning your house for example, because they have chambermate
great skill i'd love to play a game of straight pool with someone as we don't have the game here in cork. send me a message player and we can arrange a game in your house sometime
too bad he didnt break properly. Straight pool is played on first break from on a FULL RACK, not with a ball sitting out and having the cue ball break things apart.
lol, not when youre playing for a high run. You should go to Derby City straight pool event, they play a similar game throught the tournament. Earl Strickland was one of the guys who suggested this game.
i found that unsusual too- that you werent breaking from a rack consisting of all the balls in the formation on rack 1 but- different rules- and strokes for different folks as it were
That break shot at 20:00 was a real gem...you had a bad leave for it and you still managed a break...and then the follow-up. That was the difference between a 50 ball run and a 100+ run. Well done. This vid inspired me to play hours a night...great shooting.
Yes, I agree! That vid made me buy a cam for my table and start recording my 14.1 practice. just managed to run 58 and 53 in april. I am convinced that reviewing your good runs will make you a stronger player and give you confidence towards a century run.
I should to. I just meant that this vid really got me hooked on pool in general. I bought a three cushion and I'm ready to get a snooker table too. All my friends think I'm nuts, but hey, it's a fun way to kill a couple hours at night. I should get a camera--what kind did you get?
I enjoy apple ... external iSight - that is good enough. you can check the cam on my vids. You must have a big house to place all those tables ... I am so proud having found a good spot for my brunswick 9"!
Nice runs, partner! Hey, what is the best training method for you? What do you do with your time, I mean? Better, what do you use to practice your breakshots? Good talking with you...PM if you want to talk more.
Great shooting, but of course you know that. The only thing that is kinda disappointing is that you are all alone. It's your birthday man, you should be doing this in front of friends and family!
The table looks like a variant of the BRUNSWICK "Gold Crown" (see corner pockets), a very good table. This was a magnificent run (with no cheating!). I want to know why you aren't on TV!!! This takes a LOT of skill and practice!
if you think this is a seven foot table, you can't claim that this run is nothing special... because you've already proven that you don't know nothing about pool.
are you really a British, Mr Craig?? I heard that Snooker is the top sport in England not Soccer and it is also the top cue sport not Pool... how did you get the interest to play Pool?? I thought British don't really like Pool because of the pocket and slow play..
Craig, If you would like, I could add commentary for you... just let me know - it would be a fun project. Good seeing you at the World 10 ball Championships - hope to see you again very soon.
Hi Dave, good to see u too, so pissed I had to fly both for my match and didnt have more time to talk! Commentary would be good, youd have to promise not to be too harsh on my patterns though! :p
In straight pool you rack the balls with one ball left on the table (leaving out the first ball in the triangle). The idea is to crash the rack while sinking that last ball so you can have a decent run at the table. I'm not sure about the professional rules, but whenever I play you always need to call your shots, so just breaking the rack and hoping something goes in usually doesn't cut it. However, if you sink your target ball in AND break the rack, you're golden.
Nothing against seeing 14.1 regain popularity, but I recall one of the things you had to deal with playing 14.1 was sitting in your chair for God-knows-how-long watching a decent player run out a hundred plus balls... that can't be too much fun
Some very nice shooting there G.T. :), nice to see a 100+ run on youtube :)
As much as I can understand what you're saying dpuldwig, but when you're playing straight pool, that's the idea, keep yourself at the table and keep your opponent in his chair, and if you're made to sit in your chair while you opponent runs 100 balls, then let it be a lesson to not give your opponent that chance again.
Willie Mosconi gave the best advice for straight pool, which is simply "Don't Miss!"
cheers, yeah was good to have decent run because haven't been playing. Def got a bit nervous around 100 but after that thought would challenge 200, the rack I messed up on was all open with good break balls so was a bad way to end it.
tried to bounce the object ball over the cluster because it was only half in the way. Lost the plot really prob should have gone for the combination. I was still pissed off about almost missing the 7 two balls earlier and running out of position for a ball in the side grrrr
Yeah, it looked like you were trying the double jump there. It seems like that was your best option. The combo didnt sit right from what I could see.
Great run. Commentary with it would be nice. Players from all over the world would learn alot about 14.1. It might play a role in revitalizing the game.
Excellent shooting. Wish you could cut that annoying sound ( TV?) Off in the background.
