It is an amazing story based on the events of Operation: Anaconda, which took place during the beginning of the war in Afghanistan. I actually saw some video where Taliban did play video games while on drugs. But i don't see how that can help them become a better soldiers. In fact if you get too deep into gaming, gaming will rather hurt your ability to fight. It will generate an unrealistic expectations. Its like watching Chuck Norris movies to understand how to use a sniper rifle lol. Only thing you will learn about sniperism is the fact that sniper rifles indeed fire a bullets!

@L1Games America's Army actually does have some realistic info, like an entire Combat Life-Saver course. It was reported in the news that somebody once SAVED a life in a car accident because of what the game taught them.
There are some also videogames that have been modified to teach soldiers stuff like teamwork and tactics. There's even some for PTSD treatment. So games CAN teach and train people for certain things. But as a tool to train terrorists how to be terrorists? Not at all.
You're right. I should be more specific. What I mean to say is that a game can teach you like reading a book can teach you. facts, visuals, ETC. but not like hands on training.

you can learn which gun is which from a game (like you can a book) but then actually firing it or participating in combat are completely different. thats where a game cannot substitute reality:)

I doubt Jack Thompson realizes this, but you CANNOT get weapons training from a video game! Firing a gun in games AND in real life are different. I have played shooters since I was a teen, but yet when I fired my rifle and handgun for the first time, I kept missing my target. It was because I did not get proper training for shooting, other than gun safety training. You have to get used to the feel, know how to properly shoot a gun, how to properly aim, how to pull the trigger, etc.

my life, ever since I was four years old. Mind you, I was born in the 5th generation, middle of the 90's.
I played Halo: Combat Evolved at the age of 7, even though I was severely underaged. Yes, I will admit I sweared even worse than a sailor back then, but since then I have matured, now age 15.

-Every kid who shot up their school had "trained" themselves to kill using video games. Including those where there is no proof (or very little proof) the shooter even *played* games (such as Cho Seung-Hui).
-Every person who plays a video game is under 18. This includes M-rated games.
-The game manufacturer is wholly responsible for a kid purchasing an M-rated game.
-When a kid obtains a game, it is because he/she purchased the game themselves without a parent.

The only reason they took the taliban out of the game is because they got letters from mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters that had their sons or loved ones killed in action and thought that having the taliban in the game would be a insult or a embarrasment to their loved ones that fought for our country so much..just to let you know..they did it for a good reason...

I doubt Jack Thompson realizes this, but you CANNOT get weapons training from a video game! Firing a gun in games AND in real life are different. I have played shooters since I was a teen, but yet when I fired my rifle and handgun for the first time, I kept missing my target. It was because I did not get proper training for shooting, other than gun safety training. You have to get used to the feel, know how to properly shoot a gun, how to properly aim, how to pull the trigger, etc.

u make a valid point, but I have to believe that the changing of the name is due to the sensitivity of the issue. Furthermore I believe they changed this for the families of veterans. Aside from that, I have as much disgust in the issue of changing the name cuz its a video game and wut they did it takes out the realism in the game itself. Some games have messages for players and I feel that this game might have 1. no idea why Gates thinks this a training tool for the taliban which makes no sense

@watchop actually, they just changed their name. from "Taliban" to "Opposing force". they still kill US soldiers and the content of the game is still intact. so according to Jack's argument, the Taliban could still use it to train. LOL
