Thanks for this! I wear my Tom Waddle jersey every Sunday. To have Tom play for the Bears and see someone play receiver the way it was meant to be played was an honor. He'd catch anything thrown near him and would take the hit and pop up and do it again. The Bears Crew I watched with back then nicknamed him "The Matchstick Man" because of the way he got knocked around!
I remember it was either this game or the one next year when the bucs laid a vicious hit on waddle, knocked out for at least a couple of weeks. waddle was a helluva receiver tho. i was only 11 when i watched him play but i remember him vividly
i know tom was a great player in all(from these vids and my grandpa told me) but how did he only have 55 catches that year? i would've expected more if he was this good...
I know, thats my opinion excactly. What i was saying is that every time a white guy touches the ball they complain about his lack of athleticism. As if every white guy is some sort of inferior player.
This was a Saturday game that started at 11:30 in the morning. Remember going to Bullys for our Bear Backer get together drinking beer and eating pizza.
I love the sound of the crowd cheering his name at the end. I remember one game he played against the Giants; might have even been in 1991. Every ball that was thrown anywhere near Tom Waddle was caught, with little regard for the defensive players that were going to hit him after the catch. High passes, low passes, passes that were to his left or right shoulder -- if the quarterback put the ball anywhere near him, it was caught.

it doesnt matter who the white guy is, they always say "he doesnt have great speed".

Speed isn't the key to football, technique is. Waddle didn't have great speed. He didn't need to, he ran great routes and caught EVERYTHING.

they had review in 1991? wow I'm getting old

They've had replay for a long time. The recent change to replay was to institute the coach's challenge flag to force a review of a play.

Good video. And I remember your brother as a good, tough possession receiver.
