The song's about how James' parents were members of the Christian Science religion, which doesn't believe in doctors. If you're sick, you don't go to the doctor, you have a guy come in and pray to make you better. Even if you're arm's broken, you don't get a cast. In school, you can't have biology or health classes, either.

James' mom died of cancer when he was 15-16, and she didn't go to the doctor once.

It's all about how people use God in the wrong ways.

First off, The God is my 2nd favorite Metallica song of all time. Kirk is an alright guitar player, but have you EVER listened THROUGH Rust in Peace? And yea, Kirk has a lot of great solos on Death Magnetic, wich is one of my most-listened-to albums on my Ipod. But Metallica are great. Their fans sucks though.
