  • Ho Oo Ryu which is the Sanchin kata we do is based on Uechi Ryu's Sanchin Kata. But we start off with our Nukite on the front leg.You can see it on my Youtube page. I see that you have weapons on your wall do you also do Kobudo?

  • @1banryukyu, I did see your kata Sanchin on your page. Nice performance. I can see those differences. My short brush with Uechi-ryu was with Ted and Kim Kresge in St. Pete, Fla. Interesting how Kanbun sensei imparted his sanchin as such. Certainly closer to the White Crane Kung-fu origins as history indicates in the Fukien province of China. As for my traditional kobudo. That is also a connective part of our discipline. I do enjoy working the five major weapons and occasional iaido.

  • Thank you Sensei for posting your style's Sanchin. I learned the Uechi Ryu's Sanchin and I learned the Kyokushin Sanchin which is the Go Ju Ryu's Sanchin Kata. I have seen the Isshin Ryu's Sanchin and Ryuei Ryu's also. I think this is the 1st time I've seen someone go into the kiba dachi. Are you doing heriken zuki or nukite zuki? Osu

  • @1banryukyu , Yes, nukite-zuki. The use of kiba-dachi is contributed by the late O'Sensei Robert Trias. We have opening and closing in all of our Shuri-ryu kata in kiba-dachi. This is not the case with our Goju-Shorei-ryu katas though.
