  • Where can i get a triplet lens in europe. i cant find any :S

    your size is a little bit big but i'm searing for lens like yours. my lcd is 3.5"

  • @sp4d3n You can try either a specialty shop like diyprojectorkits(dot)com, or ebay/google-shopping with searches like [projector/projection/triplet lens] (some parts of Europe may spell it lense). I got lucky and scored one at a fun local surplus store. Of course you will probably want one considerable smaller than mine if you're using a 3.5" LCD. ;)

    By the way what is that LCD from? I'm curious. :)

    If you have seen newtonn2 projectors, he use an 3.5" lcd from a car rearview system.

    The cool thing is there is already av1,av2 channels and power cables for 12VDC.

    I asked diyprojectors(dot)com if thay will restock lenses and he said late this week. so my first triplet lense will be bougth from them.

  • @sp4d3n Yea I was going to suggest you look at his (newtonn2's) projector stuff since his is a little closer to what you're doing. Also the fact I haven't worked on mine in a while. ;) Main thing is to learn from it and have fun! :)

    i have bougth items for around 655 SEK(67,41 EUR) and my mission was to not go over 1000 SEK(102,92 EUR). right now i have around 357 items. only one thing left and that is wood or something for the box.

    Thanks to ebay this is a cheap project. buy all items in sweden and you have to pay 200-300% more than i have done now.

    And still have a nice 50" projector!!!

    Only real problem is... I CANT WAIT ! DA**...

    What about the quality of the projection is it good? Have you tried to close the box ? i noticed it was open... doesn't that make the screen less lighter? I don't know... just asking... :)

  • Despite some damage to the LED array the quality does still seem rather good. There is certainly room for improvement as this is only the first version. The image contrast you see is related to the amount of additional light hitting the screen and since this version is open I do get light leaking out and it does effect the image but it's not as bad as you might think. For later versions I would probably enclose it further.

  • Hi, Actually I removed the Fresnel that would normally go between the light source and the LCD; the rationale being that I was emitting nearly parallel light from my array as opposed to the normal radiant point source. A diagram would probably help to explain so if I make a video explaining how the whole thing works I'll include one in it. The Fresnel I think is 220mm though I tried a 330mm for a time as well, I got better results with the 220 I believe. As for the triplet; really not sure.

  • The LCD panel is LTN154u2 or something like that; WUXGA (1920x1200px) 15.4". You can buy one like it from a few shops online or as a spare part designed for laptops (the Dell Insperon 8600 is one I think) on ebay, which is where I bought mine for a good deal. If I enclose it or make an enclosed version I would like to try a white defused as well as a black one, might be interesting.

    How many LEDs did U use (what kind)?

    What's the final energy consumption (W) and final output (Lumens) and perhaps contrast of the picture if u know it.

    I'm seriously considering to replicate your project, but I would like to learn from your experience first.

  • I wrote you a nice response but apparently youtube lost it or something. I may make another video with more in-depth info schematics and stuff but I'll give you a couple of short answers for now. According to my recorded calculations the LED array is made of 2394 5mm LEDs in 798 parallel circuits. In it's current configuration the TOTAL power draw for the whole system at wall socket is about 250W. A warning though; the way I did this one was VERY time consuming!
