i think the refs in the 70s were alot more leniant all round because the game was way more vicious back then because they did not know the full extent of what injuries did. so its no surprise he did not get thrown out, although if that were to happen today he for sure would have been flagged.

But indeed they may have been for all I know. Only thing I'm certain of is that the last two teams ANY other team in the NFL wanted to play back then were Pittsburgh and Oakland.

@BaltimoreColt Oakland was the most feared team in football....not just because of defense, which in itself was just viscious. The real difference was Oakland had a VERY punishing offensive line, too. They actually intimidated the Steelers believe it or not. I watched right OT John Vella actually assault Lambert as he was taunting a down running back....only time I ever saw Jack back up. What hurt Oakland time and again was penalties....they couldn't control themselves. They were fun to see
