  • you can all see the high level of education that the Greek border officers have. They speak a lot of languages , they are polite and most of all they can detect an suspicious invader. Of course the only think they care about is their salary. Of course they can let you pass with no delay if you are a little generous. Ashamed for the citizens of my country...

  • that's what happens when u're not an E.U citizen...

  • Were you travelling on a British or Canadian passport? If it was a British one, I am absolutely amazed that the Greek border official gave you so much grief on your way out of the EU. I don't see how it mattered what you filmed anyway unless they have something to hide, the way the Chinese do in Tibet and other places. It's put me off going to Turkwy in case the same happened to me. Did you really have to show him footage from your camera?

  • @TheEurozhongguo I had entered Schengen on the Canadian passport so had to leave on that one too. He scanned lots of footage from the camera (and found nothing of concern!!)

  • I want to cross the border 1day too,If Im visting Turkey from Germany

    Greetings to Turkey and Greece

  • I was in Turkey 2 years, 1957-59, flew on no passport, flew out, no passport...just USAF special orders in those days...

  • I'm a student in greek school and I'ma terrible student and evan i know muc much better english then this idiot :P

"I want to sell what you have in the camera!"

  • It's true.. Greeks are afraid of their own shadows.

  • I have watched this video 3 times and i am still laughing with the greek border guards. hahahahahahaha

  • @varipoutserman Me 2 LOLz

  • you should become a tir truck driver. if you like crossing borders

  • haha the car in front of you really should be washed lol

  • This border guard was obviously a peasant, but he was right to be suspicious with your camera as it wouldn’t be the 1st time “tourists” have tried (and got caught) to record military installations at the Greek islands in order to pass them over to the Turks (Yes we have such trustworthy western “allies”). Actually I wouldn't be surprised if you were doing just that! You say that you're Canadian, but your accent is English.

  • @alxxz Eh, that's not that uncommon. You'd be amazed how many "English" people have dual nationality with the old British colonies. I'm one of them.

  • he just asked your from canada and yet u have an English accent where r u actaully from r u from England origanlly and there was no need for such a long quesitoning with the border guard its abit stupid rily he wasted alot of your time

  • in the borders is full army thats why they make this qustions special with cams maby the think u are spy.ionce when i pass the holland germany borders and this with train the german police whas very harsh to me like i whas a terorist the make me body control and im very symple guy the whas afraid i bring drugs to germany and i dont take drugs this whas so lowdown.lets not put down the greeks the make here job.go in germany the are like animals and this insite EU

  • the best comedian scene for me,is,hearing a greek speaking english. And this borderpoliceman makes ma day:-)))))))))))hahahahaha

  • @HRVkillChetnics

I am sure your hard slavic accent would be very amusing too.

  • I passed this borde 20 times Im turkish canadian nothing happened always cool with the greek people

  • @BATMANLIBATMAN

Well balanced and justified comment. It is normal to see it like that if you are not fanatic and arrogant as many, unfortunately ,on their comments.

  • yeah, the greeks make big problems about cameras on their border... I;m from bulgaria and one year ago when we were traveling to greece with my school, one guy took a photo of his friend on the bus while we were at the border... they took him off, searched his whole phone and let him go when they were sure there were no pictures...

  • considering how hard it is to get into America for a holiday this was a walk in the park!

  • came back 2 days ago.. Nothing wrong with the Greeks!! we just drive through..

  • The thing is; because greeks think we're still living in 15th century, they believe that Turks will attack and conquer their country. That's why they have quite hardened defensive military installations at their side of the border. They must have thought you videotaped these deployments to sell to Turks..

  • @bigturk74

Every country should do what thinks is better to protects its safety. Although the turkish greek relations have definately developed in a positve way the last decade, the military tension between the 2 countries is far from being over.

Except the military reasons, there are other big problem in this area like drug dealing and illegal refugees. Note what the next comentator also says that greece turkish border is a European Union border too.

  • unfortunately this area is heavenly militarized from both sides. On the Greek side at least, recording is prohibitied at military camps, and you may be prosecuted for espionage. So be cautious. This guy with this poor english was translating (badly though) questions from another official. This area is the passage of illegal immigrants and many accidents happen due to minefiels set many decades ago. Realize also that these borders mark the end of EU.

  • @JIMY45GR both of them are NATO countries, right?

  • @JIMY45GR

Good point . Totally agree with you. Filming of military areas, even of military buiding in the center of a big city like istanbul is stricktly prohibited also in Turkey. You can get in great trouble of you film or fotograph anything that seems to be of military interest.

  • So tell me how did Turks treaded you?

  • @TurkeylovesGreece no particular issues except that no-one at all spoke English so finding the right office to get the visa stamp was a challenge

  • It seems like all European borderguards get the same education.

No matter where - as soon as they get a bit suspicious they ALWAYS ask the same questions.

Sometimes I almost burst out laughing when they even asked for my nationality or firearms. Sometimes they ask the same question several times.Highly psychological!!!

And did you notice: the ignored the information in your passport about your trip!

  • i am greek cypriot. The problem was if u record any army area.. Thats why all that questions..

  • Is this going into Turkey? If so you have to deal with Greece Guards too going into Turkey? Wow crazy.

  • there must be alot of drug smuggling by the border.

  • I was there myself, but that was 20 jears ago, then cars had to drive truh a pool so no dust from greese wold spol tukey or the other way around, i was hichhiking and let me drop off before te border, and wanted to walk across to go hichhiking again on the oter site, that was not allowed, NO WALKING ACROSS THSS BORDER!!

Wel if i look back thos were good times. Jacco

  • very funny...

  • Greece may be in Europe, but certainly has a very definite Third World attitude to life. What exactly does Greece manufacture/build/have to be worthy of espionage anyway? I hate red tape, live and let live I say...

  • @ayrsma

It is better to be in Europe and have what you so arrogant say Third World attitude, than belonging to Third Wold ( or almost) and try to enter somehow Europe by following or immetating what is supposes to be european and western. I think you get the point.

  • what is this machine? GPS :)

  • You try crossing the Polish-Ukranian border in either direction these days. Since Poland joine Schengen, the controls are really tight. They search every nook and cranny of your car and it can take 6 hours or longer on a bad day.

  • i want to sell it, i want to see it, what did you write in camera :))) hahaha.. you can't have the camera in some areas in greece!!!

    isn't it in European Union?

  • I remember when I had a longer than expected stay in Turkey, so I had to renew my Tourist visa. I thought the easiest way to do that would be to just cross the border and come back. Man was that nightmare. The taxi cost is quite and the Greek border guard "Forgot" to stamp my visa to say I left Greece. So when I got to the Turkish side, they wouldn't let me through without that stamp ahh lol

  • @angel1341uk

I have done the same thing too. You were the one who should check if your passporst was stamped. I do it all the time, at all border my passport has to be stamped getting in or out of a country. It is normal for the customs officers to miss stamping a passport

  • love how the turkish flag waves dare

    BAYRAK INMEZZZ

  • I LOVE Türkey

    NMTD

  • I LOVE Turkey

    NMTD

  • hello guys bealive me i have crossed the border more than 500 times without pass wihout any decument im from iraq and i have lived 7 years in istanbul.i sweamed in the river manytimes,,,i have passports and borders,,,i like nature

  • According to an agreement, from the Turkish coast 6 miles belongs to Turkey and other 6 miles from Greek islands belongs to Greece.

But Greeks claim it to be 12 miles from the Greek coast, and it's not possible. Turkish jets do not cross the border, it's just the independent area where the Greek thinks it belongs to them.

Plus, it's a political game, on Greek TV you hear that Turks crossed the border, and on Turkish TV it's the opposite.

  • unfortunately this area is heavenly militarized from both sides. On the Greek side at least, recording is prohibitied at military camps, and you may be prosecuted for espionage. So be cautious. • hahahah he has no idia about gps poor greek

  • its idea btw and yes we know about GPS but we dont need em since those lands were belong to our grandfathers and we know em well.

  • @bayram1905

Two -three years ago gps was not that popular, yet.

Recently they know and use it everywhere, even in Turkey :-))

  • Takes me back that does. In 2005 I was travelling to Istanbul from Alexandroupolis for the Champions league final to watch Liverpool. It cost us 100 euro to cross from the Greek side to Kasan (just past the border) as the only taxis that can cross are those that pay the border guards. As 2 of my friends had no match tickets as they were collecting them in Istanbul it cost us 400 Marlboro cigarettes to have a passport stamped to bribe the Turkish guard.

  • Some of you have absolutely and completely NO IDEA about the whole situation is between Greece and Turkey and the reasons for so many questions ans "harrassment" as you call it. Furthermore to the ones who say "I am surprised you kept your kool".........try to NOT keep your kool and see what happens. You have no choice but to remain calm unless you want to wind up being turned back or being removed from the car for more intense questioning. This man did the right thing in being calm.

  • Great video! Makes the US-Canada border crossings seem 100 times easier by comparison. :)

  • greek border officials accent funny hahaha

  • In the western world only the greeks are such paranoiacs. Thay still live in the 20th century and expect attacks from all directions. About the bulgarian couple thay were just making tourist pictures to a millitary base because they found it interesting. If anyone wants to spy any hellenic bases internet is the easiest way.

  • I believe that he is asking all these questions because some months ago a couple of Bulgarians were caught recording military area. However he definetely needs to improve his English :D

  • That border gaurd was like an animal, how you managed to stay so calm was unbeliveable.

  • that border guard did his duty.

  • @CoolJayShadow

Absolutely agree with you. I wonder why they even let him pass this tape, if they had it checked as I suppose.

  • @OnurLeventUK

The border guard just did his job. Maybe he did not spoke like an british border officer- (typically kind , cold and strict) but he asked what he had to ask. I wonder why our voyager did not dare to film his crossing at turkish customs...

  • Wow..you kept your cool with the Greek border guard. I'm surprised he was harrassing you as much as he was....maybe you crossed in a small town and he was bored, or maybe the tension between the Greece/Turkey border is always high, given their history.

  • No point in losing one's cool - just makes matters worse

  • @borderhunting Can I ask when did this incident. Exact date.

  • @LutMcGregor 6th November 2008

  • @borderhunting As suspected. At that time they arrested two Turkish spies in Evros to photograph Greek miliary camp. For this reason everyone in the border are on alert for any foreigner crossing the border. And especially from Greece to Turkey.

  • there are spies that's why, although Greek guard spoke horrible English lol

  • @interdictorN

There english was much better that the greek of the driver, nevertheless.:-)

  • @Bootleg127

I am not sure who is harrasing whom in this case.
