Review: Red Laser Bar Code Scanning App for iPhone

It doesn't work for me. I have an IPhone 3gs. It reads the barcode but then it goes back to the original screen. It doesn't give me any results. I've already enabled all of the settings. What did I do wrong?

Can you use this app (or suggest one) to add to Library Thing?

Otherwise this app works great from my 3G. You just need to hold really still, lean your hand against a counter or something, get the barcode between the arrows, only the 10 digit barcode; crop out any additional barcodes that some items have.

It is (currently) FREE through the APP store. Just do a search for 'barcode scanner'. Costs nothing extra.

i have 3g, the app works but the quality of the camera isn't enough. when i set it close to the barcode, i cant read the numbers (unlike the one in video) and i believe the app cannot determine the barcode. what should i do?

@technochook it works, usually scans in around 2 seconds but sometimes doesn't scan at all because either the barcode is too small or you have bad lighting. it's not as fast as the iphone 4 and iphone 3gs with autofocusing cameras.

They announced that all the apps for the iPhone would be available for the upcoming iPad but I'm curious if this app can be used on it. If so, it would be a great app to get for those of us who do not have an iPhone.

Recently they updated the app to read faster and it's a little too fast: you don't have time to line the barcode up, so it tends to misscan every third time, which never used to happen on the 3GS. I wonder if an option to only scan when you touch might not be called for, or at least go back to the slight delay. The app has all sort of uses, e.g. Cataloging a library or CD collection.

Looks useful but. But why would u use a barcode that is In your house of something u have already ? It seems that this app is only usefull If u like to but two of something. If I saw a hoodie online and I wanted to find a cheaper one I couldn't cause I don't have the bar code ...

Shopsavvy was just submitted recently and there are vids on YouTube on the iPhone version. It scans almost instantly even without auto focus plus there giving it out free. Just gotta wait on apple to approve it and it's gonna be better than red laser.

The idea is whether the item you're holding in your hand is good price, not what the price is of the item in your hand. Or to simply scan it to save for research or later purchase.
