Contrary to popular belief, there is sometimes more to my videos than just talking :)
Just think of those brilliant bits you might have missed because you switched off too early. Now you'll have to go & watch all of my videos again, just to make sure!! :)
Hey Andy...I just loaded my video but I attached it to the person's video who first tagged me. Just wanted you to know that I did do it though...heheh
Your dad's story sounds intriguing, and no wonder you spent time tracking your family's history. That sounds like a rich tapestry there. The farthest I can go back is my maternal grandparents' parents.
I don't see any video responses here yet, so maybe I need to help go poke these people on the virtual shoulder now.
Several people have mentioned that they'd like to hear my old music. They may just regret it!!
There is a bit of luck involved with researching your family history. I'm lucky to have a fairly unusual surname, which helps. Yours is a bit more common, as is my mothers, which makes it a lot harder.
Yep, still waiting for those responses.
Maybe everyone's getting bored with this tag thing now, although i'm definitely not :)
You'd think it would get boring, but same here: they're all a treat to watch. BTW, Oddsweb has her's up now. I just watched. Again, we learned some new things here (well, new to me since I hadn't been subscribed until today - d'oh!)
I've done quite a bit of genealogy research myself - I had to back off for a while because I got somewhat overwhelmed at the vast amount of information there was - apparently my ancestors were big record keepers because I have traced back to the 13th century - seems there were some rather unsavoury characters as well. :D
Wow you've sone some traveling! Funny how we travel far from home but never in our own backyards!
I think we all have some skeletons in the cupboard. I've found somebody who was transported to Australia!!
Going back to the 13th century is amazing. I'd love to get my line back as far as that.
As for the travelling. I guess my attitude has always been. Go where you can now & save the places closer to home for when you're older. The trouble is there's still a lot i'd like to do overseas.
ain't that the truth - more time , more money! I am sort of on permanent alien status so my yearnings for travel at this point are to go 'home' (being, I guess, where my folks live in New Mexico - although I never lived there).
Well, I guess I need to do this now since I've been tagged three times...hehehe I didn't know about the spreadsheet! Liked hearing yours and I'd personally love to hear the old band stuff. Those pics were great! Running there must have been such a great experience.
Really interesting facts there Andy. Do you think you'll ever regain the enthusiasm for running marathons again? My youngest brother used to do them too, but he kinda lost the inclination to compete in them too.
It takes a lot of time & commitment to train for a marathon, especially if you want to run the distance well. I'm not sure i've got the time nowadays, or maybe the inclination either.
I learnt a lot about myself, both physically & mentally when i did run them & i enjoyed the experience. I'd recommend it to anyone, even if you only do a marathon once :)
Well spotted, i'm not 40. I'm actually 50 in March.
As for the bands. I started in 1976 in a regular Rock band, doing covers & some of our own material. But then moved more into the New Wave/Indie style into the early/mid 1980's.
I did talk to my father about putting his memories onto video, but he didn't seem too keen. I did get him to write some stories etc down for me though. Maybe one day i'll talk him into it :)
You know...after i got tagged, suddenly all of my sub page had these tags on it. I first i felt bombarded by it...but looking at it now...It just seems like an incredible way to get to know these friends of ours on here. Great random facts! I knew about the band but did not know about the marathons! WOW!
And I'd love to talk to you about geneology some day. I've never been able to get a good start on my family tree, as much as I'd like to! :)
I agree, I'm surprised how well this chain is doing. It's turning out to be a real interesting experiment. And much more interesting and meaningful than some of the other chains that were started.
I'm enjoying the tag videos as well. I must admit i was a little dubious at first, but this is certainly one of the better tag ideas i've seen.
It's interesting to see how different people approach it in different ways. Some have done the facts very quickly & even in text sometimes. And others, like you & me, have used it to tell people a little bit about ourselves. Judging by comments i've seen, i know which others seem to prefer :)
hmm ok, so I am tagged too!! :¬D THANK YOU :¬D Very very interesting... you know those pickies are great.. :¬D especialy the cheesy grin on the drumms :¬D
I think that's the hardest part of this. Trying to think of 5 facts that others might find interesting. But, i'm sure you've led a rich & varied life!! :)
My mother grew up in Kent a teenager during WWII, my grandfather was very proud of his O.B.E. for his work in civil defense. My family on that side goes back 400 years in Canterbury.
I'm very proud of my grandfather, I have his awards and paperwork with me here in the US now. It wasn't until my sister and I were teenagers my mother told us the stories of the "buzz bombs" and heading for the cellar. We were visiting my grandparents home in Canterbury and standing in the garden and she just started talking.
family trees are always so interesting. we have kept track on my mums side of the family for thousands of years now. great facts, good to learn something new.
no offense but british people talk ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're actually very interesting; this is one of the better 5 fact videos around!
AND your a much better man than I for running the marathon 4 times lol!
Keep up the good work, and look forward to more of your videos :]

Five fun facts about me:
1) I love the color blue (Cyan, to be more specific)
2) I am a young, sweet and cute-looking guy
3) I love playing and putting up videos of obscure Japanese video game titles that I do also own.
4) Gohan is my real name when my Chinese name is translated into Japanese.
5) Ie, chugoku-jin dewa arimasen. Watashi wa kazin desu. (Wo bu shi zhong guo ren. Wo shi hai wai de hua ren.)
Okay, that's all folks. Have a nice day ~_^

I'm not sure how up to date the spreadsheet is. It can't be very easy keeping track of all the tags!!
I used to love running, especially off road, on the beach & in the countryside. I really must get back into it :)

Bongos-sounds like an interesting addition to a rock band. You should have stuck with them, you might have started a whole new rock movement.
You mentioned before about getting your dad to make some videos. You should bug him some more-I think the stories would be fascinating.
americannamor 4 years ago

It seems like we've got a lot to talk about Gary!!
The best way to start on family history, is to talk to your parents & relatives & find out as much as you can from them. Then go from there.
You'd be amazed how you'll be told stories etc that you've never heard before.
I'm still hearing new things even now :)

I lived in Kent for approx 22 years & i've visited Canterbury lots of times.
My mother was living in Sussex during WW2 & remembers the 'doodlebugs' flying bombs, flying over her house, on the way to London.
Your Grandfather had a right to be proud :)
andymooseman 4 years ago
I'm very proud of my grandfather, I have his awards and paperwork with me here in the US now.
