32:10 the only reason these technologies are hanging around is to keep the technological progress of the perfectly-fit for aircraft carrier power supply units up to snuff. The wee bits o' floating sovereign lands have a pretty high convenience factor when they only have to dock to refuel every 4-5 years.
I read somewhere quite recently the japanese government is burning contaminated radioactive waste. This is a disgrace. The people of japan and the world are being lied to to protect the global nuclear agenda. They raise the radiation exposure limit to safe levels! No such thing caesium 137 has a half life of 30 years and can cause bone cancer among other serious cancers! Radiation is deadly, how can we use this technology when we as humans don't fully understand it's potential. No to nuclear!
All nuclear reactors have to be banned! Otherwise it's just matter of time until we have the same problems as Japan. Our government has the same mentality as theirs, special interest rules over the welfare of the people. And the sad part of that is even over the peoples survival and their childrens survival. They are Godless, who else would feed off the living for a few coins of gold?
@sherri99516 Lack of god has nothing to do with it; it's hubris and the money based economy. We need a resource based economy which never would have allowed this dangerous a technology to be used. See The Zeitgeist Movement, now over half a BILLION members worldwide and in almost every country in the world, for another way of looking at an economy and being good stewards of the planet.
Atomic steam is wealfare for the atomic bomb making industry of the cold war. As long as there is atomic steam making electicity , the DOD bomb makers get section 8 wealfare for the bomb making factorys. They get the raw material cheep and still stick it to us with the charges to us for the bombs we do not need or want.
He is wrong about the vessel being the weak link. The weak link is the live atomic steam piping, the live atomic steam condensor, the live atomic steam turbines, the live atomic steam seals on every part of the system from the vessel head, to the turbine shafts seal packings. If the reactor vessel ever suffers from a depressurization like a high flying plane goes though, then a melt down just like Fukushima will happen, since once uncovered and unpressurized the fuel pile will melt down and burn
To be fair, the rate failure shouldn't be shared by all countries, since some countries have better procedures and records than other. You also have to look at the environment that the plants exist in. What is France's failure rate? They have more nuclear power plants than anyone and they haven't had a major failure.
Just finished watching this for the umpteenth time and I want to say how unbelievably sad it is that only 3,256 people have viewed this. 269 people disliked the Jerome Simpson (Bengals) Touchdown Endzone Flip video which was posted a few days ago and has over 1,000,000 views. For the sake of humanity, can you start tagging your videos with "six pack abs" "man staples testicles" "amazing slam dunk" "iphone 4g hacks" ---- anyway, all the best to you in 2012, you are greatly appreciated!!!
@attackoftheblog the views are well below my expectations. The Ann Barnhardt interview had 20,000 views and that just about money. This video is telling an important story not being told anywhere else! So spread the word.
I loved your 10 yr old car analogy, unfortunately unlike cars, the dry cask storage (every Nuke plant has many of them) SHALL be replaced every 100 years, in reality MUST be replaced approx every 50 years as cracks develop which leak radiation. Considering the half life of Cesium 137 (at least 30 years ~ see Chernobyl measurements 25 yrs later its longer) means re-casking at what cost every 50 years? In reality 10 half lifes is NOT enough, more like 20 half lifes to be almost but not quite inert
And would we be building nuclear plants if all the indirect costs of nuclear accidents was included in life time costs? 4 million extra cancer cases next 20 years because of Fukushima multiplied with 500 000 USD in cancer treatment costs equals 200 BILLION USD + the vaule of land mass lost for thousands of years + the home & business losses + other health issues than cancers caused by radiation equals probably some 900 billion dollars. Nuclear power is the most expensive energy in the world.
I'm concerned here. In past video Arnie gave different facts regarding "hot particle" science. He clearly stated 10 hot particles per day in both those of Seattle and Tokyo in a past video and he referred to the "science as good science". So he had already reviewed the science. Why does he now claim there are 100 hot particles per day in the average air intake per day of someone living in Tokyo. He made a very different claim earlier this year.
Mr. Gundersen is an anti-nuclear propagandist expert. Since the video is so long and comments are severly limited in size, I address his propaganda here - ribjoint.blogspot.com/2011/12/and-propaganda-continues.html
@davematherly I was going to ask Arnie A question about it; however I did not because I know the history.. with the US trying it in Indian Point in NY; The US has tried many-most configurations since it developed nuclear technology. now we have new materials thus its being tried again in China, Russia, and India. Thorium-Experiment-Prototype-Testing-Experience-Learning have to be used way before the world solution is heralded about.. so see you in ten years+
@wepollock lots of revisited prototype ideas are floating around molton salt pebble bed etc.. the small scale reactor mentioned in this video, Bill Gates project etc.
@davematherly Thorium is NOT a reactor fuel: yout have to mix the thorium with plutonium that has been stripped of the highly radioactive fission products; use the MOX fuel in a reactor, whereby the plutonium atoms fission and produce power while the thorium atoms absorb neutrons and are turned into uranium-233 (a man-made isotope of uranium that has never existed in nature), strip the fission products from the uranium-233 and mix THAT with thorium in order to continue the cycle.
@davematherly Alpha particles are nuclei of the helium atom, designated by a = 2He4. They result from the radioactive decay of uranium, THORIUM, plutonium, and many other radioactive materials. Thorium = DEADLY
@davematherly Yeah, that's right....no depleted uranium and no plutonium Plus it can be used to eat up some of this rubbish! China and India are looking into Thorium and are actually building some I think.
This is a great video. It should be held up as the standard for alternative news reporting. Mr. Gundersen’s breadth of knowledge and natural intelligence is wonderful.
Wouldn’t it be great if our gov’t experts were as equally forthcoming with information.
Warren you have outdone yourself with this video. Thank you.
Great stuff Warren. Is uranium totally out as an investment (never mind the state of the markets)? What does Arnie think we should aim for energy-wise ie, mode production? I suppose it all depends on how we remodel or economic model.
@cpswyl2 remodeling the economy will be essential.. we need to use natural gas as a bridge fuel; time to have a peace-time Manhattan project, we could print solar cells using laser printers if we put our minds to it.
Warren I look forward to your videos, they are very interesting and thoughtfull, Thank you for making them. Somehow or another it appears that nuclear is not safe, its never been safe, and never will be safe.
This is just unhelpful scaremongering shit. They are discussing ancient nuclear technology. Yes, it is a problem that we have to deal with now. But doesn't discount modern nuclear tech as one of the ONLY future fuel options for now.
Thinking that 'solar' will save us all is a joke.
Fingers crossed that fusion reactors actually have a future.
@mikenco In the presentation I talked about the limitations of renewables in baseline power. As a former investor in Nuclear start up companies; I can tell you that the game has to be over based on the cost. You cannot have safe and cheap at the same time. Nuclear needs to be aircraft quality and that is too expensive given the limited production of these units. Now, these reactors just kill people via cancer (and make land uninhabitable) with no pay back being possible.
@wepollock Loved your interview, as a capitalist I am offended by unregulated capitalism that can only be called Fascism. If a business process or manufacturing by-product pollutes the only fresh water we have (fracking, oil production, etc..) than the cost is too darn high period. Investors hate that the true wealth of a nation are people, unfortunately you can not "fix" costs associated with people, ie. cancers from Nuclear radiation, the ultimate end by product of the industry.
The paradigm of collective efforts of the few to serve the many for a fee really shows how destructive the nuclear program is using that model. The cost becomes what the public can sustain, not what it really costs to produce.
So we have this situation (once again) where people use a thing they have no clue of how to produce for themselves. A lot of that going around!

The source went further to say that all of the reactors in North America can only use high grade.

Safe when spent, unlike uranium.

Perhaps you can figure out a way to have a counter on the website you own get incremented each time the video gets watched, otherwise this just becomes another method, albeit a poor one, to censor people that dare to speak out against the wishes of the 1%. Don't give them yet another method of censorship, way too many exist already.
