I have the Iomega eGo BlackBelt, and it's a fantastic drive. It's my main backup drive, and it's been pushed harder and longer than any other I've owned. To each their own, but either the Lacie rugged or Iomega eGo BlackBelt are the only two external drives that have been outstanding drives for me.
I got mine in 1997, and it still works too. I backed up some important data to it and boxed it up the other day. If it lasted this long, it may make a good archival device (with limited storage of course).
Iomega was bought by EMC in mid 2008. EMC is the most repected name in the enterprise data storage industry. They make disk arrays for super computers. So I would say Iomega is in good hands. Includes EMC backup retrospect licence and 2GB online Mozy data storage account. I bought the iomega ego desktop 1TB drive. It was plu and play just like a USB flash drive and only has a USB drive, To get eStata you need to buy a iomega drive from their prestige line. ego desktop dies not have drop guard.
I have this EXHD and im not realy impressed with it the fucker overheats i have the 320GB one but it reads at 298GB comparing it to my other EXHD that reads at 120GB the other one stays cold and it by another manufacture
I have this harddrive (IOMEGA Rugged camo pattern) and I think the test is a little misleading, I don't think most people are going to be worried about dropping a harddrive turned off, what about when it's plugged in? I knocked my drive over while it was plugged in and it smack hard, got a write/read error and had to restart it. The drive appears to work though I do hear a clicking sound at random.
IOMEGA stuff rocks..and it has the best prices...check it out..this stuff is ruggged...just make sure to use Mozy incase you run it over with a truck and hit it with BOTH TIRES...
Thought the HD's would be able to handle a little bit more than that
