  • Henry Kelly what a Henry Kelly ...

  • This used to be on when I was off school. 90s day time telly

  • Who am I!!!

  • Henry Kelly's Irish accent reminds me of Roy Walker's.

  • this reminds me when i was bunking off school...parents gone to work ( check ) brother out ( check ) o.k sneek me mates in watch telly......!!!

  • like this morning i.e the morning show on ITV they only remind me of being off school sick as apart from that you would have been there!,

  • Composed by Hans Zimmer - the man who eventually went on to compose the soundtracks to The Lion King, Gladiator and Pirates of the Carribean!

  • @lyrictheatrebelfast Isn't that awesome? I love Hans a ton. Sooo great.

  • I remember this ran for what seemed like months; seemingly neverending- and they 'reminded' the viewers about the star prize at the end of the series which involved panning for gold in some far flung destination or going to see the Olympics. It was always something relating to 'gold'; 'tee hee', see what they did there...?

  • Man this theme is epic, the best of all quiz shows themes in my opinion, what i will say is Henry Kelly is very underrated as a presenter,he never gets much love as other names,he was always classy and never faultered.

  • Everybody takes the piss out of the Luxembourg contestant but the Dane looks like a bloody smug terminator.

  • I like how the Scotsman decided to do a massive blink at exactly the wrong time. There were hardly any countries in this series.

  • This was so much better then the new one on channel 5. Henry Kelly is so Irish.

  • This tune was actually made by kraftwerk.

  • ? I had it down as Hans Zimmer.

  • It IS Hans Zimmer. Elsewhere on here is the full version and the person uploading it has also provided subtitles to sing along to. AND it's the FULL version of the song!

  • hahahhahahhahaha , I own several kraftwerk albums and i can confirm you are wrong. but thanks for the laugh.

  • *sneaky face*

  • as if not being the cheesiest titles in the history of television isn't enough; the theme music sort of cops out - stopping abruptly at the end probably due to the musician completely loosing all interest in the game and the format

  • Did they show this programme in johnny foreigner countries?

  • no i dont think so. its a bit like the american "world series" in baseball. it pretends to be universal, but really isnt.

  • So it was just propaganda to make us seem clever?! Damn! I feel so cheated!

  • Going For Gold actually was shown in continental Europe through the unsuccessful Super Channel until 1993.

  • I really hope they didn't, patronising to the extreme. But i have say it was so bad it was good.Everybody who is between the ages of 30 to bout 35, will have spend a school half term (or sickie watching this).

  • Of course, you always felt the english speaking nations had a SLIGHT advantage during this english language quiz against the clock...

  • Cause he used to read questions to the foreigners in a cockney accent!

  • love henry kelly he so sexy iuseed to watch going for gold gemma

  • What a cunt!!!! oh great days it's gotta be up there with Catchphrase/You Bet.

  • Love this! :D

    Go-ing for Gooolld! :D

  • I loved it when they added Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Jersey to the list of home countries.

  • There are no decent shows like this on BBC anymore. BRING BACK GOING FOR GOLD!

  • @dunelmite1 channel 5 did a version of this but it wasnt a good as this

  • Aww Henry Kelly he is so cute. He's a babe in't he. Bring back going for gold please why did the have to axe such a wonderful show?

  • LMFAO i wanna goto luxembourg if their all that fucking cool!

  • Yeah! :) quick smile and thumbs up to the camera :) so awesome!

  • I hope that fella from Scotland won this episode!

  • He didn't, knocked out in the first round I'm afraid.

  • I remember this so well....My dad used to watch it when he was out of work in the 80's.....loved the tune!

  • "You're playing catch up...." - Henry Kelly

    Genius

  • Yep I remember this so well. At the end of Going For Gold I fell on the floor in a fit of giggles for some strange reason. Love you Henry Kelly.

  • It really does take me back to when I'd have a day off school because I was ill :-)

  • Ditto!

  • fucking awesome

  • Wow, I remember watching this with my mum when I was really tiny. Ahh, back in the days where game show intros had lyrics lol.

  • You know he won the Victoria Cross. Well that's what wikipedia said. I'd believe it though you can tell that one wrong word and he'd kick your cunt in with a commando knife.

  • They should try bringing this back of an evening on BBC2 or something similar. The format of GOing for Gold is used for a french gameshow too.

  • Both ITV and BBC were prosucing great gameshows, we were spoilt for choice!

  • and the dutch one is maryke

  • Daphne Hudson was the first winner back in 1988. She won a trip to the Olympics in Seoul.

  • I remember a Swedish contestan called Pia. The guy representing England was called Errol.

  • And he looks like he belongs in Boyz II Men! X-D

  • classic

  • To think that this was an afternoon gameshow, opening titles really meant something back then.

  • I have actually seen this intro on Challenge TV 2 weeks ago. Henry Kelly is very great at presenting this game.

  • Henry Kelly is a gameshow god!

  • i totally agree with ya.
