  • hey ! thats a woman job !

  • Century Eggs are also known as Preserved Duck Eggs for those people wondering :)

  • When I lived in Hawai'i my family would use left over turkey the day after thanksgiving. It's a great way to use leftover meats, veggies ect... Not to mention it's a great way to feed a large amount of people. You just make the congee and lay out all the ingredients.

  • @AntithesisArkady That's a great idea for leftover Thanksgiving food. Thanks for that!

  • you are awesome man!

  • Thought you did a good job explaining and showing how to do it. Just a little feedback camera shots were nice you looked good congee looked good background music was distracting :) I look forward to your other videos :)

  • yummmm :) my mom does this too! she uses some roasted duck with pickled mustard greens, white pepper, and the 1000 year old eggs ^_^ by the way....those are realllyyyyy big pieces of 1000 year old eggs o.o

  • Itadakimasu!

  • Mmmm congee is my favorite breakfast. Cooked spicy shrimp and Kemchii is my favorite combo. ^.^

  • Got a question does it matter what kind of rice I use? Because I tried it with long grain rice once and I don't know if i didn't put enough water or if congee can't be made with long grain rice but I ended up with dried white rice :/

  • @YukiTsuki101 You can use medium to long grain rice. The important part is the amount of water you use. You should use a lot of water to the amount of rice. If I were to give you a guess... about 1/2 cup rice to 6 cups of water. I like a medium grain rice for congee.

  • @MrJingjong ty :D

  • We called them 1000 year old eggs, or 100 year old eggs. Hated them. I went the Thai route. Beat eggs, with fish sauce, a little water to puff it up, and pepper and chopped onions. Fried it up and served as side. Along with pickled cabbage, and shredded pork and Chinese sausage.

  • @cliffcox66 That sounds awesome...and I happen to have lop cheong in the fridge. Thanks for the great suggestion!

  • I love it with kim, green onion, sesame oil and seseds.

  • Wow... how is that egg black? From what animal does that come from?

  • @Rick4ever1234 Check out 2:28 on my repulsive food video.

  • @MrJingjong What? I didn't really understand your answer sorry

  • Eating congee with fried tofu dipped in soy sauce and a little bit of vinegar is good too :)

  • @kansai062281 now you're talkin'

  • Kia ora,

Thanks for the recipe! I didn't realised that it was that easy to make, I tried it the other day. And I used spring onion, sliced BBQ pork, bamboo shoots and boiled egg!! Sorry I never tried century egg - its scares me when I see them in my local Asian market!! But love congee... Yummy

    Ka kite ano

  • @Chownz Never be afraid. You may be delightfully surprised. Thank you for watching!

  • @MrJingjong Thanks for the encouragement! Next week when I stock up - I'll brave it and ask the lovely Chinese girl for one! Okay that's one reason why I shop at my local Asian market!?! I'm a guy after all folks!! LOL

  • @Chownz see? Who knows what will come from that chance encounter... go for it!

  • i always, always top my congee with shreded ginger , fish sauce ans sesame oil

  • that would look good with honey, and what is a century egg?

  • @wolfinfairy Century egg is a Chinese preserved duck egg that was covered in a mixture of ash, clay, lime and rice hulls and left for weeks (even months) til they turn black and taste unbelievable. They are very popular in congee.

  • face..........................................

  • I did mine with ground beef seasons in hosin sauce, garlic, ginger, soy sauce and a bit of sesame oil; celery seasoned with ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil; a soft boiled egg; and green onion. Very yum yum! Thank you so much! <3 Great video!

  • @QueenOfHeads sounds awesome!

  • @QueenOfHeads hoisin sauce sounds awesome in congee. Great idea!

  • Can I do this in my rice cooker? I noticed you had rinsed the rice in your pot to the cooker and it made me wonder. Thanks, Susie

  • @susiebeemee Yes, you can make it in the rice cooker. That's how I made it the first time, but my cooker is small. You need lots of room to cook it.

  • Okayu? Looks a lot like お粥. reminds me of my childhood.

  • @runnyrunny999 はいお粥みたい!My mom used to make this for me whenever I was sick. She made it like JoyMac13's. We call it Arroz Caldo.
