Dr.McBeth, a great family friend for decades. Yes, he loved French Horns because he knew they could do more. I am one myself that has been under his direction. He passed away on Jan. 6 2012. At least we have his music!
I honestly almost passed out my first time playing (tuba). the last 40 measures being one note at basically triple forte? my hands were tingling for at least 10 mins and I went dizzy haha
I was fortunate to play in a band under this great composer and musician (under awful conditions) and he as a gentleman from start to finish! Love this piece and look forward to a DEFINITIVE recording on day by a MAJOR ensemble.
We played this song multiple times in High School. My absolute favorite. So intense. Amazzzzing trombone parts, as well as all other parts. My director described this piece as orgasmic, i could not agree with her more.
Except our Junior High Band in a suburb near Chicago, that's in America dope, played this. And we won the Governor's Trophy for the best band in the the state of Illinois-again, in the United States.
Also, the composer, Francis McBeth, is an American. He received his bachelor's degree, master's degree, and his doctorate's degree---guess where? The United States.
I'm one of the members of this amateur (hobby) orchestra. We don't use professionals, except when one of our own players gets sick or is otherwhise unable to be at the concert.

the conductor speeds this up way too much at the tempo change.

Glad to see so many positive comments. I read that Dr. McBeth was Bill Clinton's school bandleader.

There's no way this is a Junior High Band. There's like 50 year old women playing in it.

No, the video is full of professionals, but other groups perform this piece.
