  • Brilliant.

  • Yes, of course this is one of Haggard's masterpieces, written in this case with Bonnie Owens.

  • merle haggard wrote this....he wrote it in a short time and never changed a word....its been recorded by over 150 diff artists.....one of the better songs written

  • Merle's live version on "The Fightin Side of Me" album is the best.

  • has anyone ever read in waylon's bio where haggard cheated waylon in a poker game? I read it, I often wondered if this was waylon's payback!! I like haggard, but......ole waylon put the blues in this version!

  • thank you for posting this video....I love it, thanks.

  • Thank you for posting. God bless. RIP Waylon.

  • good ...but best by George Jones!

  • @drrex41591

When i was a kid i heard Waylon crank out "The bottle let me down" every day. It took until i was in my teens to know that it was a hit for Merle. I love MH but Waylon kicked ass on that song.

  • @RebeccaannWood Yea i can understand why!!!

  • @RebeccaannWood well said lady

  • A good song is always good, and this one has been recorded by so many good artists. But MY favourite version is the one with John Fogerty and The Blue Ridge Mountain Boys!

  • @133Lumumba133 Thanks for that i aint sure i have heard that at all but i will find it and listen thanks

  • @133Lumumba133 Yes. That is a great cover! Did you know Fogerty actually did that whole album by himself? Played every instrument and sang every track. Talent right there.

  • This song was written by Merle Haggard.

  • @all95621 Thank you for that ...

  • Actually, make that Bonnie Owens ~ she's an ex-wife of Merle Haggard, and ironically, Buck Owens.

  • Actually, make that Bonnie Owens, ex-wife of Buck Owens and ironically, Merle Haggard.

  • I believe the best version of this song I've ever heard was done by Gary Morris. Of course, Merle, Waylon, Willie and others have their own stamp on it. And of course, Merle (along with Buck Owens) wrote it. If you get a chance, check out Gary's rendition. It will knock your socks off.

  • Waylon we miss you...

  • This is one of my favourite songs, and I've heard so many versions, I love Waylon to the point of idolatry, but I think Merle did this better.

  • @jenni4claire thank you Jenni a very fair comment I am glad you liked it all the same

  • Sharon , i do think it was Hag who wrote this song, but i agree think this is a great version, of a great song. Thanks for commenting, check out my channel if you like Waylon

  • @teddie488 Haggard wrote the song...Bonnie Owens came up with the Line.."Today I started Loving You Again"..according to Haggard...

  • Thanks Steve

  • Good Work Teddie As Always

    WAYLON RULES

  • Thank you for that

  • Waylon;like Johnny;covered quite a few songs and how he put his print on them.He has such a voice;full of depth and emotion.Love the video..57 secs.Great picture.

  • Tuks .. Thanks for the comments, i love this version but Waylon does anything well.take care

  • Great, thanks

  • thanks Clyde

  • Waylon's version is slightly faster than Merle's..... both, of course, are great, as they are giants in country music. I couldn't say which version I prefer. Waylon's vocal and phrasing is really intense on this song, really getting to the heart of the lyrics.

  • Yea I agree but i would go for Waylons version i love the more dramatic arrangement, a great song anyway thanks Michael

  • teeger...... your are a real tinker Lol

  • This is in answer to George Jones' "He STOPPED loving her today" LOL Just kidding.... I sure do like the background on this too!

  • The songs great - the background is even better, right teeger!

  • your so kind tt thank you
