Maureen portrays anything BUT a weak defenseless woman in this movie! She's an adequate fighting partner. Hollywoods onscreen Golden Couple right here!
I thought this was a great movie! It was full of laughter, romance and deadly serious issues: terrific combination! Add to that the beautiful scenery, wonderful acting and directing and ...well..it makes for enjoyable entertainment! Probably my favourite John Wayne. And yes, Patrick Wayne is John's son though I must admit I didn't know the others were. Thanks so much for posting!!
While I can't say I approve of her methods of getting back at GW for his supposed affair, I can see how she would be very emotional about it. Not trying to justify her cruelty or anything, but I don't think it's right to say that she was completely at fault here.

so did he actually cheat on her? I thought it was more his drinking habits mixed with his flirtations that pissed her off...I didn't think he actually committed infidelity because he didn't know why she was mad at him. If he had cheated on her, he would be absolutely certain what he did wrong.

A true Comedy Western.. The good Ol' days of watching this with my grandfather.. John Wayne was/is one of the greatest actors of all time.
