Hi Bryan, ARS is a good system in theory. Unfortunately the plastics used are not robust enough. I have over 80 cars, 60 of them have broken ARS systems. This is a shame, as if I wish to use one of them I have to remove and insert the ARS from another working car should I wish to operate it as no spare parts are readily available. I bought a BMW few months ago, it has the newer version ARS fitted. It broke on the first lap, another vehicle unfortunately race retired.
I always take my ARS springs out... the kids always twist the guides in the wrong direction when they think they are helping me. This can sometimes result in a short if the spring touches both guide braids.

Again the ARS is only to center the guide pin, take the spring out.

I have a car where the spring jumps out and the car derails everytime it happens. So I think it has an effect on the driving.
