coc was a hardcore punk band before they went mainstream metal shit with deliverance. Fuck that. Albatross is a good song but fuck man they sold out big time. Old COC is the shit.

KP5000 they sound pretty metal here to me. COC always had more crunch to their sound than most hardcore bands. They themselves got sick of the punk scene, as have many other bands.
guess i'd call them (their early work) crossover or thrashcore (like d.r.i., suicidal tendencies, early agnostic front, etc.). arguing subgenres is just semantics. & i'd say all the lineup changes brought new opinions into the band. plus punk rock's popularity was waning in the late 80's, so maybe it was partly a business decision.
this the original c.o.c. before a zillion lineup changes & before they went metal. now, while i don't think they're the worst metal band out there, they can't hold a fucking candle to what they used to be. my punk rock friend eddie, had the radioactive c.o.c logo white-outed on the back of his leather jacket in about 87, along with shit like gbh & exploited down the sleeves. don't think he would've done it had they been a shit metal band.

Guitars are out of tune..early work yes, but at least tune it! COC still rocks though!
