  • Such a magical voice! Loved this song when I was little. Still love it now. Best of Disney! I wish they could make more movies like this now.

Now I got this song stuck in my head for the rest of the day! LOL!

  • Was "topins" a slang word for the British pound back then?

  • @omgrobbiee tuppence = two pence :p

  • Whilst the association of "tuppence" with "two pence" is correct, the song is actually referring to two old pennies (2d) and not the imaged 2P coin.

  • I use this song to sing my nephew to sleep when he's had a nightmare.

  • Course, nowadays there are laws against this.

  • fuck the bird let's go feed the poor

  • this video was well done,,,

  • This song isn't just about feeding birds, it's about showing that you care about them.

  • This is my favorite song, I always get chills when I hear it.

  • I dont like disney now... they are for turning out teen media hos... but julie andrews had a beautiful voice

  • This is really very cool. Normally I'm not keen on slideshow vids, but you did this really well.

  • hehe thank you!

  • my all time favorite song on this movie!

  • It was Disney's favorite, too--quite unusual, because the case with almost everybody is that their favorite music is that of their youth, whereas MP is from 1964, and WD died in 1966.

  • Walt DIsney was a man with a very large heart and this song moved him.

  • Has anyone also noticed that the portrayal of the cathedral ("saints and apostles") is a kindly one? Extremely clever film-making to put two layers into this message as they have done.

Of course compared to the rest of the film this song also stands out as being far more complatative, and it preaches without being cheesy.

  • As some people have said, this song symbolises that kindness to less fortunate people brings harmony and binds us together.

This is not a socialist or communist commentary. Noticable lines are still held between the different classes. This song accepts that classes exist and are widely spaced, yet it also portrays antropy to those less fortunate.

  • Feed the birds...and get and ASBO

  • Fiddlesticks, boy! Feed the birds and what do you get?!? FAT BIRDS! :D

  • trip

  • When i was little, this song was stuck in my head a lot. It's such a magical song. :)

    xxxxx

  • just watched your video with my daughters, found myself choking up. what a sad song.

  • I thought a tuppence was a ladys getantal area

  • depends how u wanna look at it jazz..

    that is all

  • Nice job. It's very dramatic, yet at the same time cute. Funny too!

  • I love this song! When I was little my mom would sing this to me as she rocked me to sleep. Now whenever I hear it... it makes me sleepy. lol.

  • Sat on the steps of St Pauls and sang this with a friend.very drunkenly.but must admit.was one of my top 10 life moments.........beautiful song............

  • Excellent lol! Im gonna make sure I do that!

  • Toppins. Poppins. Coincidence?

  • Are you kidding me? I do hope you're being facetious.

What you refer to as "toppins" is actually "tuppence," meaning "two pence" or what we would now refer to as two pennies. "Two pence" has been pronounced as "tuppence" for ages. There is, clearly, absolutely no coincidence.

  • i don't know...but it's tuppence

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, if not THE most beautiful. I just watched this classic movie on the 40th Anniversary Edition I got a few years ago. I love Mary Poppins!!!

  • Classic example of a brilliant British Musical. This really is an epic example of expression within music, I love it, makes me proud to be british.

  • Odd that this "British Musical" was written, directed, produced and distributed entirely in the United States. Of course the story is about English people, and some of the actors actually are English, but that is hardly a point on which to be so pretentiously boastful. Besides, I'm pretty sure the moral of the story is universal. Charity, as is sung about here is hardly unique to the British, eh?. -an American

  • this is disney.....

  • :') love this song so much...

  • One of the most beautiful film songs ever.

  • Beautiful as always! I play it on my piano a lot of the time.

  • A wonderful song.

  • i love mary poppins so much!!

  • It took me the longest time to learn that "tuppense" was "two pence", and not some special type of bird food.

  • As an American, I never knew that what sounds like "tupens" is actually "two pence". I learned something today!

  • It's funny; this song is actually about being kind to the homeless and less fortunate in society. A wonderful social comment folded into a seemingly "child's" film.

  • i agree

the birds kinda represent the homeless people.

for example... "the young ones are hungry, their nests are so bare..."

  • what kinda poor africanian poor or british poor

if u men african u have ruined this song for mi cus this song is british and every time i listen to it now it will remind mi of some african kid

  • that didn't make sense sorry i dont know what you mean?

  • you are exactly right. Why do so many miss this?

    Beautiful song.

  • this is the best song ever

  • Wonderful...

  • That was Just woderful... Thanks YOU>>>>

  • i kinda wanna go feed a bird right now...

  • oh i love this song, the movie mary poppins ist great ! Wald Disney was a great man...

  • Mary Poppins is a great movie.

A classic that will live on and on.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Thank you for posting this! I loved the movie but this was always my favorite part!

  • and i always thought it was just me who felt this way about this song...especially starting at 2:27

  • mostamazing song of all time!

  • trying to listen to this song without crying. The first somg that made me cry, along with Tammy Wynette's Stand By Your Man. Few songs make me cry, but those two always do.

  • I love this song! It makes me cry!

  • My favorite song in Mary Poppins

    Thanks

  • beautiful voice, can't believe the surgeons effed up....she was brilliant

  • I remember bad times when I was a child. But every time I heard this song the world was a little better... just for a while....

  • AMEN BRO>>>

  • was I the only person who thought this was a REALLY REALLY sad song as a kid?

  • not sure about sad, but I cried to it along with Tammy Wynette's Stand By Your Man.

  • funny but the most loveliest song!

  • Cute!

  • I love this song. =]

  • You aren't the only one, apparently Disney loved the song as well. According to songwriter Robert Sherman, he and his brother Richard often met with Walt in his office after work and discussed things in the studio then Walt would wander over to the window and say "Play it". They knew which song he meant and played it on the piano. It was chosen over Greensleeves, the choice of P.L. Travers (author of Mary Poppins), who had wanted only period music in the movie

  • "This beautiful song brings me way back to a wonderful time . ." It's not back...wonderful times are here now, for you to make. In this scene, before the song, remember what Mary tells the children. "Sometimes a little thing can be quite important." We still have pennies, and the birds still need bread crumbs.

  • That was lovley!!

    Haha

    Feed the birds!!

  • This beautiful song brings me way back to a wonderful time . . . Thnx

  • Was this made by an American? I bet it was.

  • definitely not...what makes u think this was americanised? dont see george bush in this do u?
