friction, or heat it. will ignite some of the powder aluminum or magnesium, setting off a very fast chain reaction within the "bomb" The powder is nicely packed or mixed. The tighter it's packed the more efficient it is.

Well, my friend, I wasn't there so I wouldn't know. I will have to ask my friend next time I speak to him. Does it really matter, anyways? Any high velocity centerfire rifle round (2500fps+) i.e., .223cal or larger will detonate it on impact.

I just blew up 35 lbs in a 5 gallon bucket (was not 100% full) It looked much bigger than this but we added extra AL fuel to our mix and we were only 100-150 yards away. I posted a video response if it took.

The explosion was much larger than it looks. The video camera was zoomed in most of the time and they were on top of a high hill or embankment. The distance from the shooter to the target was approximately 300yds or more. Note how long the dirt from the blast stays in the air, that may give you a better sense of how high the blast actually was.

I think if you do it right you can use stages. primary, booster and main charge. Go from slow to the fastest fuel you got. I wonder if adding nitromethane to the main charge would get the velocity you want.
