i dont get steve morse..on purple ballads me makes great solos (and it wouldn't be too much saying that they're better than the studio version)...but in songs like smoke on the water, perfect strangers he ruins the song with false harmonics, artificial guitar tone and stupid solos
I felt embarassed by Ian Gillan at the end of this song...Richie Sambora's version is also the best i ever heard to this song, both in vocal's and guitars.
A great song, great solo by Morse, but Gillan's vocal is overwrought, age has caught up with him on this song (and "Child in Time") which is a shame.Compare thisvocal to the original - no contest.
best ever song by DP, so full of soul and meaning. I like all versions. old and new. DP and Ian Gillan Band but please Ian, stop singing now. It sounds like you are choking at the end of the song.
Those screaming arpeggios, extra brush of strings with fingers and double finger plucking classical sequence at the end is just an amazing way to end the song..
Amazing...... Breathtaking!
Steve Morse, now I know why you are chosen as the permanent guitarist...
i'm going to be honest here unlike most jerk offs here.
When the blind man cries is one of the most beautiful song, and looking at a few vids where Morse was the guitarist, i never seen a butchery of song more than this.
Go listen to the original song, and you'll see the difference.
This is just pure lame especially the guitar solo.
i know steve is a truely amazing guitarist, but when he plays the blackmore stuff it sounds shite. and before i get '' oh steves a far better player than blackmore'' i know that steves technically the better player, but blackmore wipes the floor with him when it comes to playing with feel. if in doubt listen to the solo from the original, hairs stand to attention.
Even though I never get sick of hearing this song because Steve and Joe are great, my sentimental favourite will always be Richy. Did anyone else notice the Guts on Paigey? My God! lol
exactly! morse is brilliant but blackmore got sth. in his guitar-playing that makes you feel if there´s more in this music. Like a soul for his music.
(sorry i can´t discribe it as i want, cause of my bad english (from germany) but i hope you understand what i mean?!)
But in a fact Steve is not as arrogant and so exact as Ritchie and that you can also hear it in his music
I personally like Steve Morse better, but that said, they are both GREAT GUITARSITS.Ive met Steve before and he is VERY gracious & humble in person -very nice guy & the TOTAL consumate professional at that -- and he FLIES the band to gigs (!!)--the guy is very unique. Ive seen DP 2x:,all I can say is it is a phenominal show-I wish them more years of continued success.
I saw DeepPurple 2times, too. Yes, very great show - i´ll never forget them.
Sure, Steve is a great musician, one of the best guitarists all over the world (in my opinion) i didn´t want to say anything against this fact.
Only, that he has another style. No worse style, just another. I heard a lot Deep Purple in the last days. Lots of new "Stuff! well, i have to say: GREAT! BRILLIANT! Now I think, that i notice the "soul". It is there but i didn´t notice it, because it has another style.
superb! bravo!

I dont have anything against Gillan or his voice, quite the opposite, in fact, but i dont like the way he treats this song at all.
His singing is very show-offy on this version.
You dont sing this one like that.
You dont let the voice come from your fucking throat on this, one you make it come from deeper inside.
Mr Morse on the other hand, is a revelation on this version. Great feeling...
