Just saw the movie. Brilliant. Anyway, I read on Wikipedia that the reaction to the slapping from Walken and De Niro, especially Waken, was genuine. They found a local man who disliked Americans, and he had no problem slapping them in the face, which the first actor had - and he sometimes did it without warning Walken. I like how they went for that genuine feeling of it all, and how the stunts were performed and how they even included clips where the actors "have had enough". It's all so real.
