yeah i have made another one since then that sounds way better,and looks a hell of a lot better.and to answer your question its a piezo pickup.i plan on trying to make some of my own hand wound coils for pick ups when i have some spare time.
It reminds me of the sitar. (Indian instrument most often used for Hindu spiritual music.)
