  • i'd say gt5 has good physics but it misses g forces

  • Definately would look forward to it! I thought the pros would say "ya can't learn from video games!" but i guess in this day and age, you can!

  • Excellent.

  • 1000th like... wahooo!

  • Great stuff! MORE!!

  • Gt5>Gt4

  • Awesome video!

  • Awesome show I love it!

  • Leo's name is on GT5 long version of the ending credit.

  • As I go back through these videos, this caught my eye. GT5 is NOWHERE good as lets say...........iRacing.

  • Fuck yea!!! Great Video Keep this UP!! Loved it.

  • 5:00 that driver grips the wheel too much, hope the doesnt get in a crash, he will break his thumbs even at low speed.

  • Fantastic episode, we def need more episodes breaking down the aspects of setup and driving.

  • HELL YEAH BRING ON THE LEARNING!!!!! IM LOVEING IT, IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO SHOW ME THINGS FOR AGES!!!!! MORE VIDEO PLEASE, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK :)

  • Good 1 Leo.

  • @suprajames1 racing line makes you drive artificially, and I have no idea what you mean by speed through corners. If you really want to be a great track day driver, turn the line off and when your ready, turn the assists off. I hope your no a 12-year old because that's how you sounded when you typed.

  • This all really sounds good but abit quick and brief. Going into more detail on setups and LSD in particular would be a great help and also the tell tale signs I should be looking for when deciding on changes to my setup. Thanks a lot Leo, I think in 2011 you are gonna be a big help to me.

  • No console racing game is going to really prepare you for actually driving a real car on a real track. I can vouch for that. It's a great "simulation" of the experience, but still very much removed from the real thing. It's like the difference between masturbation and having actual sex.

  • Great episode Leo. More of this. (if you even see a comment this late)

  • what a wrong concept of racing sport, plus jackie steward is a legend? yes he was but Ayrton Senna is more legend than him , Juan Fangio, Alan Prost, Nigel Mansell,Nelson Piquet..

  • Wow! Thanks for the continued great comments. So, go look for THIS vid -

    * Driving the Line: Eyes, Hands, Ass, Feet - SHAKEDOWN [was the next show!]

....for more teaching. In 2011, we WILL DO a full series of detailed training.

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!!

  • Hello

  • Forza 3 is better! ;) :D

  • Damn i hate the Nur its freaking scary

  • They teach what you need to know, they dont give you their secrets though...

  • "i'll share and thats the point. Racers do That"

Thats what i'm saying. I can't stand arrogant assholes who say I could teach you but my knowledge isn't free.

  • Did I see Lime Rock in one of the footage clips there?

  • Gee, 12 deaths per year, guess that's a fact that exactly 12 people will die on the track, no matter what huh?

  • @Jaxnon y u such a dick????

  • Faggot

  • Nice video. 5star rating :D

  • Your voice is annoying as fuck. I'd rather cut out my own voice cords than listen to your raspy shit again.

  • @frenchcalc But could you say that to the guy's face if you met him?

  • @0070062010 I could

  • @0070062010 could or not, doesn't change its creditablity. and your questioning adds to it

  • @0070062010 I already have bitch.

  • I think there are good points here, the key with the games/sims is to understand that there will be elements that can't be reproduced by the game -- mostly feel. I have many, many students who use the games to give them an idea of where the track goes and then once at the track they can add to that foundation. Anything that keeps you in the game is good and getting out onto the track as much as you can is key!

    Cheers!

  • great tips!

  • lmfao he got teh crash shit right, real car drivers drive clean ass holes!

  • what's the epic song that plays at 1:12

  • I suppose this would go under the "anticipate" category that you mentioned Leo, but patience is another big thing. I don't claim to be a big-time racer, or pro sim racer for that matter. I race alot on Forza 3 and the biggest issue I run into is people getting to impatient or loosing their cool when they are being closely tailed, or are trying to pass someone, which usually ends up in the grass or tire walls either way. Just tossing that out there...

  • @RK1Hatty geez if you learned on forza you better get ready to feel the real tighnes of a car, i swere in forza evry car acts so "loose!!!"

  • @ThreeDaysOfDan I never really learned how to drive, its just something that came naturally. I've race only once in my life (a track day at Mid Ohio a few years back), and I've played plenty of so-called "racing sims" in my time, and not a single one of them comes close to how the real thing feels. Besides, my comment was not directed towards the physical realism of racing, but the competitive aspect.

  • What was that Eifel clip in there good for?

  • @42317 show the difficulty in racing, the track is the Nurburgring Nordeschleife. The track is almost 13 miles long with almost 160 corners

  • I say both, though your ads turned me off.

  • alot of drivers that attempt to lap the nurburgring use gran turismo or other sims to better there skills & be more prepared

  • Good video, but if you want a sim good enough to serve as a training tool then it has to be iRacing.com or Netkar Pro.

  • Dude talks like Dr. Edgemar in Total Recall... MELINA, GET DAOWN!

  • YEAAAA 300ZX at 2:33 !!!!!!!!

  • @sagark91 got that shit in gt5 XD

  • @ThreeDaysOfDan NICCE i got one in real life ahaha

  • Do more videos! This is great quality stuff. Thanks for putting this together. =)

  • i loved this is want to know more, do more videos like this

  • Pretty good stuff Leo! I feel this really helps for new guys just starting to do some weekend racing, on or off the track. More details on those topics would be cool to watch!

  • Wow nice information!

    It's too fast!

I'd love if you can make more episodes like this!

  • more please

  • I'm all for ten episodes, each concentrating on one of the ten key points mentioned. That or allocate half of each of the next ten segments to them. It's good stuff to learn, even if you already "know" half of it. Thans for the Cap'n Slow and Sir Jackie video, too.

  • I like

  • I think more of this is necessary. I would like to see "Shakedown Driving School" in the near future.

  • Favorited!

  • MOAR PLZ :)

  • YES MORE MORE MORE OF THIS PLEASE

  • More of this please!

  • more advice!

  • 2:38 i was very privileged to see the Eagle MK III, this motherfucker puts out 700+ hp from a 2.1, 4 banger. shits fucking ridiculous, couldn't hear it roar tho haha

  • more!

  • 6:01 check my speedo?

  • Love it leo!

  • Very nice video. I quit watching FLD a while ago, but wow what a great segment...might start watching again.

  • I would like to see a couple more of these videos. Its all good stuff for the viewers.

  • yes .. more

  • good tips thanks :)

  • more Leo doing more race science and breakdowns and theory! so nice to see an experienced, smart and articulate racer discuss the sport and share information the way he did in this episode.

  • Love it do loads more!!

  • Awesome

  • awesome video!!!!! great job more of this more often

  • whats the song you put for the commercial at the begining, i like the music...

  • "NEED MORE INPUT, INPUT GOOD!"

  • Agree best Shakedown I have seen, please keep it up Leo!!

This will help me on the track and maybe on the games as well.

    Thank You Leo

  • Love This!

  • It was awesome, more would be appreciated!

  • Keep it up Leo! :)

  • Best episode of the year!!!

  • I wish there was more of this kind of stuff out there. Maybe there could be an episode dedicated to each of the subjects that Leo briefly mentioned to us all.

  • this is the exact reason I play GT

  • Leo this ep was good, we need more of these knowledge

  • by far the best shakedown episode EVER!! I'm more into how to race, than about racing but thats all fine. But i have a question, by "sim line" do you mean the driving line that shows you the braking points and accelerating points in a sim racing game???

  • More Leo please. that was great

  • I love this video I have been looking for good tuning tips, plz man more more.

  • I would love to hear more!!!

  • man i suck at gran turismo, I much better in Forza motorsport 2 & 3...I was ranked Champion...maybe if I buy the steering wheel, that could help

  • More Leo that was awesome.

  • I say give us more in each area. I really think that even someone who has a passive interest in racing can get a lot out of knowing what a racer's mindset is- and as a result, they can better appreciate what goes into getting the most out of a car.

  • Good stuff. thanks leo!

  • This is the best ever. Give us more Leo.

  • i liked it! but don't forget the racing news when there's something good! ;)

  • more of that!

  • We get the point. 1000 episode on the 20th. 1:48 to skip past it :)

  • Best ever. Thanks Leo

  • more please

  • Awesome video!!

  • Leo P, Great stuff, you should break it to chapters, just like you would do a book and do tutorial...

  • thumbs up if you pissed yourself laughing at his voice

  • excellent video! please, cover more topics like this! I'm an aspiring rally driver and this stuff really helps. Thanks again.

  • Excellent video. Great tips and information, Leo. Well done.

  • Educational driving techniques. Superb!

Technical and mental techniques. Now we're learning, not just hearing the news about racing.

Suggestion- Elaborate on each of the points you touched on.

I'm learning from a guy who's been there. SIMS are fun, but you gotta feel your a** in the seat to really drive.

    Keep up the good work.

(Nice Lime Rock footage, screaming straightaway into the RH hairpin.)

  • awsome

  • - i wish you guys make a whole new show just about this cause its really nice! one thing about race lines dont turn it off if you're not confident about the track. turn it off when you know where all the break zones and exit zones are.

-another thing be respectfull to the other driver. its interesting fact that poeple think that racing is very agressive, overtakeing or blocking whenever. block once and let the guy overtake if he's still too fast thats the rule.

  • FORZA ALL THE WAY!!! COME ON U KNOW U WANT TO LIKE THIS!!

  • Great show Leo!

  • I want MOAR!!!

  • NIce work Leo, keep it up. Very good list.

  • great vid Leo..great vid loved it

  • Wow, is all i can say Leo. Thanks. That top 10 list had a couple golden nuggets in there for me. Thanks a bunch! I really like what you did here in this video. i think more is in order, but maybe you need to set aside its own time. I need racing news from shakedown, but separate videos like this would be great too!

  • really like this sort of thing keep it coming please

  • This is the best fastlanedaily to date! Please can i have more, speaking for everyone aswell! CHEERS!

  • Wow Leo, that was very clear and valuable information. Experience counts!

I race bikes, not cars but much of what you said also applies to bikes ... except for the suspension tips :)

I would definitely like to see more!

    Greetings from Belgium !

  • more more more p.s i work at the track where jackie stewart teaches james may. Oulton Park. Respect to marshals.

  • I don't think SIMs can ever replace real driving. The car physics may be translated properly, but I drive with real world instincts too. For example, karting. You somehow also feel understeer/oversteer/etc with your body. I don't think you can get those in SIMs. Sure, you can train reflex times if you use very good steering, pedals, etc, but to race you need to be physically fit to maintain a good pace.

But what the hell, might even work. But you can't totally replace real hands-on experience.

  • Well obviously tire grip levels and wear levels vary massively depending on the track surface, track condition, tyre material, tyre construction, tyre pressure and the vehicle dynamics, not to mention driving style.

If you wear fronts or rears quicker then you might want to adjust brake balance to compensate for that. i.e. if rears are more worn, move the bias forwards. However if tire wear is largely the same front and back, you wouldn't adjust brake bias, you'd just be gentler.

  • PLEASE GET RID OF/ CHANGE THE BLOODY BACKGROUND MUSIC! JEEZ!

  • i love itt!!!!

  • GT5? Try Forza 3...

  • @carsismeZ06 Forza 3 is nothing compared to GT5!

  • MORe

  • MORE!! MORE!! MORE!!!! PLEASE!!!!

  • Best FLD/Shakedown ever.

I've heard a lot of this before and watched the JMandJS video again. Playing GT I can't help but blip the throttle part way through long turns (over 180 degree).. and occasionally tap the e-break for more turn in.. doing it wrong?

Would love to hear your thoughts on TC, ABS, LSD and any other driver aids. (Does LSD count as a driver aid?)

If you do run out of racing material in the off season, you're probably well placed to talk engineering.

  • Please we need more of this kind of advice or at least I do. Knowledge is all powerful and then actions are next. I think that this game does the education of driving a car fast around a track has been done brilliantly. The mindset of a fast driver. can't get any better than that can u?!

  • best shakedown ever anyone here who desnt think they need car control and setup advice is just wrong how about a whole new shakedown day devoted to this subject

  • @slammedintrepid i agree. how about theuy devote thursday to these eposides.

  • dude, could you share some on go-karting??? would love it :)

  • fully agree with all that was said in this ep.. some of the best words to come out of your mouth yet... informative, direct and entertaining.... great work you should be proud.

  • That was awesome and informative! Brain almost exploded due to complex information, but its whats needed I'll understand it all with effort!

  • Couldn't agree more with the thought of more videos like this

  • Dude you're awesome!.. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • I play a lot of sim racers in hopes that I can one day drive on a track and enter amateur races (track days, Lemons, etc). I would like more of these episodes.

  • Like the video

  • Iracing is so much fun. I played it at the New England auto show this weekend and defiantly signing up for it.

  • This was awesome, great shakedown.

  • 5:23 Limerock Park!

  • The best Fast lane Daily shakedown yet

    Leo - you're the Master
