My take on the DK NES games:

Donkey Kong-Timeless classic. Love it.

Donkey Kong, Jr.-Very good classic game.

Donkey Kong 3-Not as good as the first two, but still pretty enjoyable.

Donkey Kong, Jr. Math-A good reason why educational games got a bad rep.

The arcade version of Donkey Kong 3 is much better then the NES port. It's a fun shooter. I think your review is just a little too mob minded. The games a classic wild shooter. Hardly crap. I don't understand how people give centipede a great review and not this game. Seems strange that dashes get love, but fully animated characters and bugs get shit on.

Sadly the first DK was an nes japanese launch title. The limitation is due to early memory restraints. It debuted alongside Popeye and one other which escapes my mind right now. What's stupid is that nintendo didn't add the missing content when they were released worldwide in 86 when the memory was available and it's off spring Super Mario Bros was flying off of shelves.

@Luigi84289 Yeah I never understood this either.  Even as a kid I was shocked. A lot of games got huge overhauls when they came over to North America and Europe. This is the beginning of Nintendos laziness I guess. On the same hand, why the heck don't they release the arcade ports instead of the half assed NES ports these days?

The thing with Zelda 2: The Adventure Of Link and SMB2US is that even though they were very different from their predecessors, they still share the same genres and still have some elements from their predecessors intact.

DK3 however, is a completely different genre and barely has anything to do with the first two games other than Donkey Kong being in them.

Another totally rad review Agua. I found another channel from a dude who's name is CornshaqGaming Not very many people know about him but he's got tons of " let's plays" which he calls "play it throughs." They are on a lot of obscure old NES games and I'm sure if you guys like this you will like that. I'm in no way connected to this dude or know him, but I think he is seriously that rad that I wanted to spread the word. So check it out if you want.........word

Obviously all other Mario games are pre-queals. It tells the story of how Mario after years of saving the princess finally snaps and becomes a villain, and is killed. And DK3 is about his son Stanly who try to avenge his dad. Gosh everybody know that.

@wesz0r Yup, you had to beat the original twice in a row to actually beat the game. I remember that moment, so cool too to have DK, or any other member really, sit there at an arcade machine and play the original.

@PuksisKissa I thought he did a great job summing up the series....and it's a review, i.e. his opinion. If you're going to stop following every reviewer that has a differing opinion from you, then given enough time, you'll inevitably have no one to follow.

I like 3. But you have to set aside your disappointment at not having mario or Jr. The game itself is very well made. It's a solid fun shooter but it strays so much from the established formula that it can't help but come off as inferior. I love the game and get cravings to just marathon it and see how far I can get. The fact that it's easy to collect one ups in the early stages really boosts up the fun factor and going to town with the super spray is a blast.

For hardcore DK players (a title more and more people are claiming after the 'King of Kong' movie), the NES version is different enough from the arcade to make it a "lesser" game. While still good in its own light, key things like controlling the barrels and how points are scored are radically different than the arcade version. Still true enough for most I suppose; although omitting a level seems lazy more than anything else.

@Nightenstaff You really can't beat the arcade joystick and of course losing level 3 is enough to put it below the arcade version in and of itself. The sound in the arcade is also sharper and more realistic. When I wanna play DK I go to the mama's pizza by my apt and pop in a couple quarters. Luckily they have one of those 800 in 1 machines full of early 80's titles. I can play DK and DKjr on the same cabinet.
