I have always admired the way that Liza talks of her parents & I'm sure that it was not easy to grow in that home, with her mother having so many problems with pills, alcohol, etc., & her parents being divorced, but she loved them and that's great. I met Liza once and was in the same room with her for a couple of hours and she came out to me as a sad person, well educated & refined, but sad, not much into people, she looked great, younger than her age. I have thought often of that impression.
Sometimes I've sensed that in her interviews, even though she is outgoing in them. One thing that I find unnerving is that when I you-tube her singing performances and read the comments, the amount of brutal/cruel/emotional comparisons to her mother are commonplace. It shocks me. I frankly don't see how she is as friendly and vulnerable to the press and public as she is. I can't imagine facing that on a regular basis. She must be a strong woman. That's too much to take.
I agree with you, but don't forget that Liza is a 100% showbuisness breed, it is in her genes and she got used to the nasty part of that world at an early age. I'm sure that there is a side of her that we do not see, and that's the side that you mention. I was surprised when I met her to discover some sadness in her eyes and an effort to hide it. It is probably one of her survival tools, I'm sure it is not easy to be Liza Minneli, but what a talent!

You're right. I can't imagine wanting to become an entertainer and having icons as parents, family friends who are icons too. Feel awful for Michael Jackson's kids if they ever want to be signers/dancers.
I think she is very pretty. she has a beautiful smile that naturally is there all the time---nothing phony at all. I think she's prettier now than when she was younger.
Vincente Minnelli sounds like such a wonderful dreamer...
