  • I'm the 6000 view!! Anyways, i think he just has his own personality in it. Tennant was my favorite, but he's good.

  • matt was in my class in upper school lol

  • i feel kind of sorry for him because everyone is saying hes rubbish and im like how do they know? david tennant will be tough act to follow but i think he will do ok

  • @obycarrot Matt Smith is a good actor but he has big shoes to fill. I hope he's up to the task. Piece of trivia Randy Orton was among those considered for the role of Doctor #11.

  • I think he'll be pretty good as The Doctor, I'll be open minded about it

  • ...does he sound like a young Boris Johnson? Or is that just me?

  • Just you :p

  • David Tennant is awesome as the doctor but I think Matt Smith will do just fine as the doctor and hey you at least need one smith in Doctor who

  • i like david as the doctor i think he wont be like david( funny) i dont think he will be like david.i think he would be like the 9 doctor not funny just borring

  • I'm sad for Tennant leaving but I suppose that's how the Doctor Universe goes, I'm sure he'll do wonderful, he seems like a fair actor (but I can't really say anything either way, never seeing him act). Two things I'm hoping for is 1) 10 better die with dignity, not something pathetic XD and 2) I hope 11 isn't really dark :(

No offense to Smith but people are already getting the idea he's emo or something, which he's not D:

    Otherwise I can't wait (mixed feelings) :D

  • He doesn't look like the Doctor at all! Man! i will miss David Tennant!

  • he may not look like the doctor yet, but he has yet to get a costume

and do not criticise him until, you have seen him act in the part.

i wish him the best of luck

  • Don't you think using word "criticize" is a bit too strong? No offense , but that was plainly a statement and my perception of the Doctor. Among all, I still like David Tennant the most. It may be changed but not YET.

  • i was not just commenting on your statement, but the general view from everyone. i did not mean to cause any harm to anyone

  • tennant didn't look AT ALL like the last doctor neither and he was fabulous so why can't he?

  • Just for a bit of comedy, like in the last christmas special Tennant mentioned, i would like the Doctor to trip over a brick to trigger his next regeneration.

  • Well, I find his excitement intoxicating at least. I remember being very sceptical when David Tennant became the Doctor and now he's my favourite yet.. I can't wait to see what Matt brings to the table. I'll miss David, but obviously he can't be the Doctor forever.

  • Woop!! :D cant wait

  • what dont some people understand about first impressions ?

Who cares if he can act ? The guy has a face like a potato thats exploded in a microwave .

Infact he looks like a character created by the winner of a blue peter competition to create a doctor who monster .

freeze the video at 59 seconds and just check out the horror he will bring to children

i want my tv license money back

  • tv license? what the hell is that? do you work in television?

  • Smith seems like of...awkward =/

    or is it just me?

  • I just hope they change his hair.

  • Hmmm...Matt Smith. Now I'd say David Morissey would have been a better guy for the 11th Doctor even if David said that Tennant would be a touch act to follow. It's the crazy thing about the show. First we have Eccleston, then Tennant and now some unknown actor who looks like one of those emo guys who'll probably have the sarcasm of the Ninth and the mercurial and manic traits of the 10th. David Anders would do the job in my opinion, but hey it's their show! Let's just hope it'll be for the best

  • I actually kinda like him... admitted... I too was a little "Noo... David Tennant can't leave" But of course... Tennant was already the Doctor when I started to watch Doctor Who... Yes... I'm a little newbie! ;-)

  • Every time a new Doctor regenerates nearly the entire fan base is sceptic about the new doctor. I wish Matt the best of luck even though I have never heard of him before.

I am glad that Steve Moffat is taking over head writer as he wrote the best and most scariest Doctor Who episodes in the new Doctor Who series.

  • I agree. Picking someone with untradition looks is a greater risk than not. For those to whom this is a negative factor, something will have to make up for that or they will be less interested in watching.

  • Think about it people, Ecclestone and Tennant were actors who came in and did not need any introductions !!

Matt Smith is a gamble that the new writers want to take a punt with, yet being very smart they know and understand alot of fans resistance to him, So...

They introduce him over a year early, they will market him and believe me he will be all over the place over the next 6 months.

This is all designed to win over the doubters in advance !

Hes not Peter Davidson, how long did he last ?

  • i agree he is a gamble but thats isnt sayng he wasnt going 2 work.

people LOVE tennant so they were going 2 be baraided with ppl wanting to know the replacement so they said it in advance.

again ppl need 2 give him the chance to be the doctor before saying he cant

  • hey! did u nick this off me? please ANYONE watch mine! it was the 2nd on youtube!

  • no i didn't nick this from you, it is my own rip from the bbc site

  • oh right, so sorry

  • kevin the teenager - but has lots of possibility.

  • Hmm looks like the Beeb have thought to play it safe by casting a young Doctor. Problem is this guy could end up being a poor man's David Tennant. He looks too young to be taken seriously and he'll have to be a helluva an actor to bypass this problem. Hope I'm wrong but I think he'll fail.

  • i HATE these people who are all like ''oh no dont let david leave!!'' oh come on have you even seen doctor who! every doctor has regerated! please people my fav part about doc who is when he regerates!

  • OH NO DONT LET DAVID LEAVE!!

  • WHAT UP with all the hating?! Come on people - are you like 12?!?

Actually, maybe you are and that's why there's all this drama - you don't remember. Look, it's happened 9 times before - and Peter Davison (Doctor #5) was only 3 yrs this guy's senior when he was hired (to EXACTLY the same criticism) so just cool the jets and let's see.

My vote is that Stephen Moffat knows what he's doing - he wouldn't hire this guy over endless others if he didn't think he was crazy good at being the Doctor

  • No I'm not 12, but Matt looks like he is. I think the marketing folks have won and forced Moffet to accept some one who will appeal to the Twilight demographic.

  • Fair point, but did you watch the Confidential about this? It is clear that Moffat and co. had PLENTY of options and chose this guy. I doubt the higher-ups would go with an unknown 26 yr old RATHER than get a bigger name. Moffat and Piers Wenger WANTED Smith.

Honestly I apologize for my antagonistic tone - I just think we need to cool it and wait to see him in action before passing judgement.

  • That comment was supposed to be a response to seiscat1 2 days ago - oops

  • Yes, I did watch the confidential. I guess I'm just a little cynical about it. I think they might say that anyway. I heard they are bringing in a writer from Skins. Do you really think he is just a good writer?

  • or maybe he is a good actor and a new angle on the doctor. the doctor all ways gets younger looking if u havent noticed. dont judge until you see him as the doctor.

  • The Doctor has gotten consistently younger in

the new series. It was more variable in the old series and the books. There's nothing in the canon that syas that the Doctor should get younger and how young would he be after 11? He and the story lines are going to have to be incredably good to overcome his age and looks for me.

  • again i think people need to give him a chance to be the doctor before saying he cant

  • I'll watch the Series 5 and if something doesn't make up for his looks and age, I'll stop watching.

  • Hey man I wasn't half as interested in Tennant as I was when Ecclestone was the Doctor,I skipped the in between stories and waited for the big ones, thats when I started to appreciate Tennant more but to be honest I thought Ecclestone was far superior and his early departure has ensured that legacy.

I can at least identify Tennants legacy and the choice behind him, he certainly grew on me but not wasnot my first choice !

There are plenty of better options than Smith, the EMO lookin young fool !

  • I really liked CE also and I think we all missed out on something when he left early. In someways I felt he was a more believable Doctor than DT. Sometimes I felt DT's Doctor was so unbalanced by the Time War that he was almost mentally ill. It added a certain edge to the character, but it wasn't always pleasant.

  • So what's next? Daniel Radcliffe as the Master?

  • It's going to be a very different show, maybe much more of a kiddie show considering the limits his age could place on the stories.

  • That is so not true. His age is not important here.

  • Get real.

  • What does that even mean?

Look at shows like Skins: young actors and actresses and yet adult content.

  • I've watched Skins and teen sexuality isn't adult content.

  • i agree i mean with regeneration he cant be an old man forever lol

  • I like him! lol he seems very capable of playing the role... and he seems pretty nice :) ill miss david tennant( david tennant is amazing!!!) but i think he will do the role justice.

  • I find him really endearing.

  • well i haven`t seen anything he`s done, but i`m willing to give him a chance, they`re not that stupid to give it to someone they think couldn`t pull off, i do think he`s a bit to young

  • I worried that so young a Doctor may not provide much of adult interest.

  • na, think about it if an old man entertained young people y not happen in reverse i think ppl need to step back from his age and look at this its a new doctor he is not too young becaise the doctor can be whatever due to regeneration

  • Dt was in an age range that provided a certain sexual interest. I have no interest at all in someone MS age or looks. The quality of the show is going to have to make up the difference. It's a given that they'll supply the guys with eye candy, but I haven't seen any indication at all to,replace DT with any eye candy for my group.

  • but your group isnt the only group that they are intersted lol trust me where ur group isnt interested i know plenty will be lol. but besides that ppl need to give him a chance to be the doctor before saying he cant.

  • I'm not talking about any other group. No doubt the tween girls will be happier than before and I think that was part of the decision. My interest in the person playing the Doctor is reduced, period. For me to be as interested in the show overall, something is going to have to make up for that.

  • i understand that the person and the doctor are one and the same i just feel ppl are too hard oh him judgug his ability before he has filmed an episode

  • I don't think that anyone is going to walk away without at least watching the a few episodes first. He will have a chance to prove himself, but it's unrealistic to expect people to approach such things without expectations, good and/or bad. If he isn't as good as one expects, that will be a problem too.

  • well i dont no weather he will be good or not but ill give him a chance but if the sjhow gos crap wll i will be switching off

  • I agree, if it bombs, I'll just go back to watching my old DVDs.

  • He came across there as an immature idiot , he really couldnt believe his luck

The guy acted like a kid in a candy shop and really made no effort to even pretend he was professional

the guy wont last , he's a filler to a better actor ,why would they the even broadcast this presenting a new doctor over a year before he's even due on screen !

my guess is he wont last a series ....or if he does ,'dr who' wont last on tv for a second series!

  • What a joke !!! As

renegadetvip says They have revealed the new Dr. way to far in advance !? Why ?? to get fans use to him, that suggests they are not as confident as they were in the past with their previous choices.

The guy is too young and looks a bit of a roaster to be honest. The producers know they are taking a risk with him, thats why its been revealed so early.

If he was a top class actor like the previous two then they wouldn't let the cat out of the bag so early....

    R.I.P. Dr. Who

  • it may just be all fans LOVE david tennant and any one was going 2 be met with harsh critisim

  • David Tennant was a great actor, but I agree with EllenRebecca3, this guy seems to be very passionate, young and energetic, and he just kind of has that air about him that the Doctor has which makes it seem like he should be a pretty good Doctor. I can't wait to see what he brings to the role!

  • I've warmed to this guy now, this is the second time I've watched him and he grows on you. You can tell he's very bright and passionate and energetic, ALL of which are atributes we link to The Doctor. I love his hands, they're very expressive, they're big hands lol but yeah. :-) I've gotten over the 'I'm going to miss 10 and Rose so much' unless he tells her loves before he regenerates. Now I'm looking forward to a refreshing new Doctor. :-)

  • he has big shoes to fill

david tennant was great, give this guy a chance though
