  • Whats a floppy drive? ;)

  • what do you use as a dust cover?

  • I see the risks and dangers of not having a case but if you are an extremist, you probably want a large full tower case for better air flow. The only benefit of having an open computer, is better airflow and cool to show off.

  • If your going to spend the money for pc components I would definitely buy a case, I mean how unpractical is having comonents laying all over your desk, your bound to bump them or spill something on them, a got a nice cooler master case for 45 bucks, that was the cheapest item for my rig besides the dvd drive

  • you still need a floppy disk drive in 2008??

  • creep voice

  • @ Archertom do u really need a floppy drive or is it okay without one ?

  • @philiplawd1 it's fine without one. in fact, if you have a hard disk with windows/any other operating system installed already you can do it without a cd/dvd drive if you want.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOO illegal windows XP disc.

  • This is less "how to run caseless" and more "how to set up your computer build," but whatever.

  • You should have a screw driver with plastic handle or a car key with a plastic head to turn on the system, it will make sure you won't get shocked you by doing that :-)

  • I found this video because I wanted to know if you even need an optical disc drive. Do you?

  • @KedViper Only if you want to. Also, you can use the same cable for the CD and HDD drives just make sure the black connector goes to the HDD and the grey to the CD

  • Good demonstration. Thank you. 2 thumbs up !

  • nice ken burns effect, makes the video

  • dude if you intend to publish a video make sure that nothing illegal appears in it such as WIN XP Pirate disc.

  • @danieltabone1 You're an idiot. It says school copy and is probably licensed to the school.

  • @danieltabone1 There's nothing inherently illegal about an unofficial Windows XP install CD. It's illegal to have a usable installation of windows for which someone does not legally own a product license for. In practical terms, this means that you have a legally obtained product key. It doesn't really matter where you get the actual software itself from, although typically people obtain a disc with a copy of the software when they purchase a license.

  • thanks for the tutorial,i'm very appreciate that.

  • lol. this really helped. i have my old computer in an old dusty case. so i decided to put it in the cadrboard box lol!. my only problem was how i was gonna turn it on without pushing the button on the case. i didn't know that all you had to do that touch the pins with a piece of metal.

  • ditch the floppy drive, you don't need one lol.

  • You don`t need fucking windows.......

  • a floppy drive.. lmao

  • After watching this, I don't think you *NEED* A floppy drive?

    Those are more an accessory...

  • This is useful for testing if you got the parts but no case

just be careful not to dribble over the mobo when your surfing

  • @playgenie

Is it a mistake not to have a case??

  • Dusting your place plus the addition of an air filter should get rid of the dust problem

  • i still dont get how to turn it on :(

  • @tom2000and1

Basically, you'd using using the key (or whatever is metal) to complete the circuit that the switch would have been bridging. You'd be jumping the power pins together and essentially hot-wiring it.

  • Yay, now it can collect dust much faster and it can be critically damaged extremely easily!

  • im going to do this with my HD 4890 cos my current back panel of the case doesnt work out with the 4890

  • People commenting on the dust issue are kinda right. It does get very dusty, however so does your PC case, I had a thermaltake PC case and it was considered to be a good case, it cost enough, but it was a pile of crap, it got too hot, and it filled up with dust every month and choked up the fans etc, pulling it apart to clean was a chore. With it now open i just use a can of compressed air everyweek to clean of the dust, much better and your pc components will stay dust free and will breath.

  • ur voice is ok but music is boring

  • they build whats called a skeleton case for building a non-enclosed pc. Usually more for tech work or serious hobbyist etc. - Ive seen em done with some neat lighting. Not much chance of over heating from lack of fresh air-lol

  • thanks. i hate typical computer cases

  • You should probably mention in the video that this isn't the best idea for a permanent setup because of dust, and that you shouldn't do this with an aluminum or steel desk. Even though it's common sense, sometimes people don't use their common sense lol. Nice vid though, explains everything pretty thoroughly, But kinda old, everything's sata now haha, and people will be wanting to install Windows 7 to newly-built computers, but overall nice video.

  • joewizard100, sorry I accidentally removed your comment. I meant to hit "reply" which is right next to the remove button.

To answer your question, that might be the reason. Without thermal paste the processor will more than likely over heat immediately and shut down if it has over-heat protection. It could even possibly permanently damage the processor.

  • @Archertom i have seen some proscessers that cool just fine without thermal paste but its very rare.

  • OLD!! lol.

  • I wonder if you could make a well cooled gaming pc like this? In a well cooled room. If anyone has done this please reply.

  • yeah im doing it atm,

wouldnt recommend it over a long period time, gets dusty as shit

    cool though lol

  • No you idiot, it will get dusty as shit.

  • Wouldn't it get really dusty? i don't like dust.

  • this is a cool tutorial cos one you told us how to make a pc without case and you also included some facts on bios and stuff thanks favorited and 5 star

  • Did you screw the mobo into the piece of wood?

Can the bottom of the mobo touch the wood or not?

  • No, I did not screw in the motherboard and the back motherboard did touch the wood.

  • oh tnx, and nice vid, now i know that i dont needs a case, i thought if the back of the motherboard touched the wood it would overheat.

Good now i dont have to spend $ on fans, and i can just keep the PC open.

    Tnx for the vid.

  • LOL i gest so

  • @Archertom you don't put anything with soft surface between your mobo and the wood?? is it okay for the back of the mobo if it it touches the wood directly??

  • @NEWanjingkepala3 the mobo usually has a few plastic pieces, which separate it from the back of a case. they work fine for wood too :) look for them, they look like screws and they stick out of the back of the motherboard.

  • omfg ide lol

  • okey nice vid, but why have a computer whitout a case ?? I dotn't get it !

  • Yeah, it's like drinking water without the glass, bwahahahahahaha!

  • @guos89 beautty?better airflow??4 graphics card together on sli or crossfire without worrie if they overheat or if doesnt fit in the case xD

  • @guos89 so that it doesnt over heat

  • @guos89 without case, it will give ur motherboard more ' fresh ' air , looks ' cool ' and easy to modify, removing dust and replacing any hardware. sry if my english bad, i hope u get it :D

  • little old of a vid but it gives me an idea lol its all about SATA NOW :P

  • I built summthin similair to that a while ago. Exept I made cardboard casing, I use that comp for travel.

Its just like this but you screw everything into a wooden board and put cardboard over it, leaving holes for the ports and stuff. Cool video.

  • Now for the question I got into this video for the first place:

On which surface should I place the motherboard?

  • I placed my motherboard on a thin piece of wood.

  • What would happen if you did't have a cooling system (fan)

  • Your CPU would melt and/or catch fire and/or turn off after a few minutes if it has a safety feature.

  • nice video but you made it just for your mobo for example you said hit the delete key to get into bios and it's not always the delete key it could be f1,f2,f8,f10,esc and somebody that does not know that would go WTF nice video though

  • Thanks for the comment.

...but most motherboards I have worked with so far do use the Del key to get into BIOS.

  • ok thanks, nice vid btw, very interesting

  • is the beginning song from pure pwnage? whered u get it? wats it called? thanks

  • lol ya the song is from the Pure Pwnage Season 1 Original Soundtrack. The song name on the sound track is "Elvis 6"
