Please don't change your format. I thoroughly enjoy hearing your life's experiences. I wish my grandparents were still around.
Since you are a music lover, you should view the film "Schultze Gets the Blues". It's a German language film (but can be found with subtitles) about an accordion player who only plays Polka, but when he hears a Zydeco tune he falls in love with it and eventually travels to Louisiana. It may not be for everyone, but I found it a funny and endearing movie.
Have only been watching the last two or three videos. I enjoy his outlook on things and stories quite a bit... Count on youtube to always have a few people who try to ruin things or stir things up. But on the positive side... Keep it up, Grandad!
Holy Smokes! I've never thought your videos were showing off. You are a valuable window into a different time. I think many of us look at your stories with a kind of dreaminess, because in so many ways the time periods you talk about are golden with spots of pain--and it was very real and vivid. You have educated more young people and older people than you realize. Please keep posting your stories, Sir. I think of all the people on Youtube, my respect is greatest for you. Thank you.
I don't consider your videos as "showing off" at all. You've lived an interesting life. My grandparents used to tell me stories like that as well, my grandma's sister even wrote a book about their childhoods. Keep them coming!
Hey Grandad, i love your videos, keep it up m8, get out there with ur videocam and start videoing whatever you like, your a creative guy, dont suppress your creativity.
Thanks for the video Granddad. I like hearing about everything you have to say and telling your stories and sharing your memories isn't showing off at all. When people share their stories about things they have done and places they have been it lets us see the world through another set of eyes.
Thanks for sharing your views. There is nothing boring about your videos. It must be a great relief to the people of New Orleans that the hurricane has mostly passed them by this time.
They come to my city..Houston Texas..then some never leave. When their Fema money runs out, they pitch a fit until they get the funds extended. Not eeveryone Peter but the bad low life to lazy to work ones do. As for Burbon Street and the French Quarter its safe and sound. God is in charge so I dont worry about things I cant change( Hurricanes). Please keep sharing your stories. I can look at pictures of a countryside. Without people in them, they are just scenery.
You have been an inspiration to me and many others to just go on youtube and talk about our lives, at times they may seem boring to you but it brings great insight in our lives
Telling stories doenst make you a smartass. And you are older then most, so you are more intelligent, which gives you the oppertunity to teach us a few things!

I love to hear your old stories, Granddad! It isn't being egotistical - it is SHARING stories that should be known and heard.
I would love to hear what you could buy for a week's wages back then, for example. Or how you went about buying a house when you were just starting out. Or a funny story about Aunt Maggie getting drunk at someone's wedding!
I love "modern" stuff as well, but you are one that can share stories of old!
Having never commented before I felt inclined to write in and say please continue the "Telling it All" series as you have lived a exciting life and hearing about you is one of the best parts of youtube and I will miss the chance to learn about a wonderful english man like yourself.
I love hearing all of your stories,Peter. Especially when you recollect back from your childhood memories and how it was like then. Really sets me in a different perspective about life and made me appreciate the progress of then and now. Hope to hear more from you, whatever comes to mind. I am rather curious about your daily diets then and what you would consider is your favorite food back when you were a young chap.
Take good cares and thanks for generously sharing all your thoughts here,Peter.
Who loves ya, Baby?! You, yourself, are not only interesting, but also are a kind and thoughtful person! Your ideas and videos are delightful. That's why we're all here tuning in to you. If you want to branch out to the countryside, I'm sure that will be wonderful, but vids from the desk are wholly enjoyable! Do whatever you feel comfortable with and don't let any rude trolls influence you! ;) Just ignore them.
Peter, I treasure your stories and wisdom, since you espouse experience that most of us will only dream about. Please, do keep up your stories!
As to hurricanes; I've been through a some, but never on the scale of Katrina. It pays to have a plan when it comes to them. Boarding up your house, having a place to stay with relatives or friends, and acting early, all help in getting through. At least with hurricanes, unlike most natural disasters, you know they are coming, and you can prepare.
I think most people, including myself, enjoy hearing about your life. You are from a different country and in a different generation than myself, so I find your experiences and perspectives facinating.
BTW. Bourbon street is indeed in New Orleans. But Beale is in Memphis, another home of the blues.
Oh no, you are NOT a showoff for sharing your stories and experiences. I have seen ALL of your videos and have listened to ALL of your stories and enjoy them all. I enjoy listening to granddad's stories, especially since both of my grandfathers have passed away in the last three years (my grandmothers both passed away in 2001). Please continue sharing your past stories and experiences with us like you have been for the past two years. :)
You think that people find it boring to hear you talking about the the things you've done and the places you've been? Well, I think that's wrong, because that's exactly why so many people subscribed to your channel! That's what made you well-known and popular! I used to love your "Telling it all"-stories and I miss them!
Looks like New Orleans my be spared this time. My husband says..."keep building cities under water!"
Anything you put on youtube is interesting to me! Your amazing! I think especially your writing and stories that you would read was fun...it was sort of like 'adult storytime!' I hope you write a book about your youtube adventure. It is a way to get your inspirational story out to other eldery folks who need to know all things are possible, even into your 80's.
Evening Peter, Have not logged onto your "sessions" for some time but its always a pleasure to see/hear your comments. Actually, far from being bored of your views, its great that you "keep em coming"... many would have given up by now.
By the way... how about an outside broadcast from a scenic part of Derbyshire?
Good thoughts from a good man across the Atlantic. Keep the video coming and don't worry about trying to get fancy as you talk about. We love your videos just as they are, although I do miss the big headphones you used to wear. Stop by our page. Your encouragement made me do the 2000 show all over agaon for 2008.
You are not a show off! And if someone has said that to you...block them! I enjoy hearing you.
I live near The Gulf and yes we are blessed to have insurance. I feel badly for the people who don't. It's not easy to pick up and move if you have no money to pick up and move. It's like a Catch 22. I would live no where else. My family has been here for hundreds of years. I have sand between my toes.
If you have a dream of seeing New Orleans you should go. Need help make plans? Ask the New Orleans You tubers' for the local advice. That is jus t my opinion though do whatever makes you happy.
People watch your videos becaise they like you and what you have to say. If anyone didn't like you then they would leave nasty comments. And I can't see any :)
I enjoy watching your progress since your first vid. It would be a shame not to have updates on what you are achieving. Your experiences are an inspiration to a lot of us. Please, keep on keeping on. I enjoy your work.
I feel sorry for a lot of the people that live in places in which hurricanes hit regularly. However I don't feel sorry for the people who live there without insurance, and keep expecting the government to help them out. Those people get what they have coming for being stupid.
Yeah, expecting to be helped by other "fellow humans" is really stupid. What is really smart is getting insurance companies rich. I suggest you donate them lots of money.
aahh peter, you look a bit sad! hope all is good with you, i love your videos, never met my grandad and the other one i barely see, so it feels good to listen to you talk about your life and give your opinion!
I live in Florida and have had to evacuate a few times. Americans have a "pioneer" spirit or else we wouldn't be here in the first place. We just prepare with food, water, fuel, propane for our grills. When we have to leave we just head out for a day or so and usually can return rather quickly after the storm passes. We can sleep in our cars for one night if we have to. I love your vids Peter, please continue on.
It is a pleasure to hear you share your thoughts on any subject. I would like to see more of the place where you live if it would be possible, your favourite spot in the area or something like that. Could you maybe do that sometimes? Thanks!
I think it is in general a big problem, when you watch the news, how to cope with al the big tragedies going on in the world at the same time again and again.
You very often would like to stop them, or help in any other way afterwards, but you can't save the whole world because your own possebilities are so limited.
Expressing concern is therefore very important, to let people know that they are not forgotten.
Dear Peter.I have always loved hearing the stories of your life and the era you grew up in.Don't let negative comments get in your way.You are a remarkable person, you had me subscribed from your first video!Look how far you have come!I too have been thinking about how would one pack up their family and get out of a city before a hurricane struck.I can't imagine it and my heart goes out to those who are facing that as we sit here.
Keep doing what your doing Peter,as you are touching many lives.
I'm VERY interested in everything that you do, and everywhere you go, your cd will be arriving this morning, and that will be a reminder of just how far you have come since your first blog, your'e an amazing person, and I have nothing but admiration, respect, and love for you, long may it remain that way
Peter on any subject....It`s not being a so off at all to me your and educator teaching the younger generations what life was like for you and all that you have been through...
and I personally think your also a great influence on the older generation all of them that just because your older doesn`t mean that you can`t work one of these new fangled machines...It would be so much company to so many older people if they would not be so afraid of them...
Your past is just as important as the present, and the future. Don't ever think that we don't care about what you have done, I personally find it fascinating. Good luck to you, Peter.
After Katrina, The mess was indescribable. But one memory I have is that people making pyramids of broken televisions...and having impromptu bowling games on the middle of Decatur st.
Well, the last 3 pages of comments here pretty much tell the story Peter, people DO care about what you're up to. You're just in a funk and I totally empathize with that, the haters can get you down if you let them. As for this hurricane, yeah, it looks bad. The most we can do right now is pray.
Peter...I always enjoy listening to you. Thanks for your kind words to the people in the path of that awful hurricane. I live in the USA, although not in the path...but remember that this storm has also affected other countries.
I wonder why you say you'll never go to New Orleans, considering that Bourbon Street and the French Quarter sustained relatively little damage from Katrina. The jazz and blues music is still there. I think that if you want to go, you should go. I'm sure the people there would love to meet you.
Oh, and don't you worry, please, that telling us from your life would come across as being a show-off etc. Just recall what wagon-loads of positive comments and messages you get!
Of course I can "officially" only speak for myself but:
Every single one of your videos is a treasure chest, and every minute of your narrations from your life a precious and beautiful piece of jewelry, made of 60 brilliantly sparkling gems.
And I am grateful in advance for many, many treasure chests yet to come :-)!
Indeed, it is terrible to know about a tragedy that is to happen and not being able to do anything to prevent it. This is when you do realize that man is NOT the greatest power on Earth, although we may feel so at times. And yet it is a great relief to know that the people of New Orleans have the possibility to evacuate, that the hurricane does not hit out of the blue and that loss of life can hopefully entirely prevented. Yet I share your concern, and your hope of a mild-as-can-be outcome.
I would love to know about your adventures and you life! I love listening to my grandparents' stories and they're all so wonderful, so I would thouroughly enjoy yours:)
The government should stop rebuilding New Orleans. Not one more dollar should go to encourage people to build down there. In fact, they should remove all the man-made dams and let it return to the natural wetland it once was! It's the only safe thing to do - evacuate and stay the heck away from the dangerous hurricane and flood-prone area of the country!
Sean, what you say makes perfect sense, and it's hard to argue against the facts . . . but Al Hirt's stompin' grounds is so rich in history and music, it would be a hard thing to do to let it all wash away. Considering how much cash we spend wastefully, surely New Orleans's unique legacy deserves some consideration, at least. Much like having Peter still here to spin yarns of years past, Louisiana just wouldn't be the same without The Big Easy, problematic as she is. Just an alternate opinion.
I will reiterate what others have said here,I never get tired of your stories and I certainly don't see you as self serving at all.I would love to hear MORE stories of your life and times.I live in the Florida panhandle of the USA,so I've been through many hurricanes. One has to prepare as best one can,but if a 4 or 5 hits, well not many structures can stand 150 mph+ winds.Ivan hit here in 2004, did a lot of damage especially near the coast. My worst was Frederick(1979),took 70% of our trees down.
When you think about it, most cities are built on large rivers and/or the ocean. Water is something we make great use of and enjoy playing in, but it can also be one of the most destructive forces. With New Orleans being below sea level in places & in a prime hurricane path, it's going to always be at risk & I know some people who's home was destroyed by Katrina-they just left for Birmingham yesterday. I feel really bad that after what all those people went through they have to do it again!
Peter, you've lived an incredible life. You're a walking history book, and people like me want to know all about your experiences. Don't feel that talking about yourself and your past is self-absorbed because it's not
Peter, thank you for your concern about my fellow countrymen. Yes we are all concerned about the good people down there. You mentioned Bourbon Street, it bounced back quickly from the last hurricane and I expect it will do the same again. There are some tough, hardy folks in Louisiana and are survivors. As for your videos your kind nature and intelligence will be appreciated no matter you subject matter. You are an inspiration to so many and a very needed asset on Youtube.
Why do you think people don't like hearing about the events of your life? I for one really enjoy hearing about what is occurring with you, and I know that there are many others who also enjoy it. It's not showing off; you really do lead an interesting life. I hope to be as active as you when I am your age.
I agree that it is quite sad what is happening in New Orleans. That city had such wonderful culture, and I don't know how they will react to the aftermath this time. Best wishes to them.
Peter, I love hearing about stuff that's going on with you and don't think you are 'showing off'. People who live in the Gulf Coast - particularly after Katrina, have to know that it could happen again. Course this doesn't make it any easier to manage. I have cousins in Houma, Louisiana and can't reach them so just have to pray that they stay safe. Take care dear Grandad - we love hearing from you!
Peter, your videos are so fun and awesome. Do whatever YOU want. Your stories are so fun! =]
Yeah, it is kinda crazy to think about just up and moving, isn't it? I've thought about what I would do if that were to happen to me... never really got too much of an answer.
Peter - you are a representative of your generation. Many of us (me included) have lost the members of your generation from our families to old age, disease, and Alzhimer's.
Don't stop posting your acheivements. It's like I am hearing the voices gone from my family.
You should document you're life, as the younger generation should learn from the lives of elder people. Every generation has something to pass on to the next generation.
We have very few of you're generation left and the things you will have been through such as wars and advances in technology should be passed on.
It's not blowing you're own trumpet, as oral speech is the oldest form off passing on knowledge.
I have learnt a lot from my grandparent's from the things they have told me.
In all the time I've watched you, you have NEVER come across to me as you described in the beginning in fact you and your stories and your life experiences are what drew me to you in the first place.
As for what is happening int he gulf, I'm very concerned for those I love in those states. I agree with you what you said about...how do you leave all that behind. It was brought up last night and I asked the same thing. Of course then I came to the conclusion....
I really enjoy listening to you and your life. Don't listen to some people that are ignorant and stupid. Please keep on doin your regular videos and make us (your subscribers) happy.
There have always been detractors, and there always will be. Trust that we, your friends and subscribers, are immune to kindergarten antics. We look to you, I think, to keep us securely anchored in a beneficent, calm harbor whilst the storm rages all about our cove.
i have never failed to find your videos interesting. as long as you keep making them i will continue to enjoy them...whatever kind of videos they are :)
Current hurricane situation/threats aside, in your reference to a possible visit to New Orleans, you say "...of course I will never do that..."
I'm quite surprised to hear that you feel your possibilities are so limited, in spite of your many experiences over the past couple of years on YouTube.
Peter, You make this a very small but wonderful world more times than I care to tell you. This particular time you being in Britain, me in Canada, share a common sadness of being overwhelmed. I have a friend in New Orleans, Katrina wrapped her arms around 3 years ago, and I can't even imagine what she is thinking at this time. The best thing that happened was I did call, and there was no answer - so that means she is seeking higher ground at least.
Dear Peter--I think you fret needlessly about these yoyos who try to soil your honest, down-to-earth, (and most particularly) KINDhearted video posts.
There have always been detractors, and there always will be. Trust that we, your friends and subscribers, are immune to kindergarten antics. We look to you, I think, to keep us securely anchored in a beneficent, calm harbor whilst the storm rages all about our cove. I, for one, am hardly bored by my favorite raconteur, and would enjoy more.
I dont think your a show-off, i enjoy hearing your achievements, i think for someone of your age to be doing what your doing is incredible. It prooves your only as old as you feel, but its always best to go into things with an open mind wether your 8 or 80 years of age.
I have probibly said all this before so i'll leave it at that without sounding like a "kiss ass" hahah.
We will always be here to listen, no matter what you have to say. Words that come out of your mouth are always those of kindness, so whoever does not wish to hear them, does not deserve to.
Talk about everything and anything, we'll listen and appriciate your thoughts.
Do just what you want. I love the idea of the look around your house or your town etc.
I live in Florida and we put up with 4 of them in '04. I live on the west coast of FL and can feel the wind as I speak out here on my upper porch. BTW Peter, I have been to N.O. several times and would find it a pleasure to accompany you there if you care to go. It can be dangerous place as well. My wife and I went last time 6 or 7 years ago. (more)
You should talk about whatever your heart desires. If you want to talk about your amazing past, do it. If you want to talk about a certain subject, do that. You have a great ability to get peoples interest nomatter what you talk about, so whatever you do people will enjoy it.
all very true pete, our thoughts are with all the people who have to leave there houses behind in new orlenes (sorry if i spell it wrong) lets hope it isnt TO bad
Nice video, though I think you got it all wrong in the beginning. People ARE interested in hearing about your past experiences. The millions of hits on your previous videos should tell you that. Learning about the past from someone who's been there is MUCH more interesting than learning it from a book or a class, and you tell it well. I certainly never got the impression that you sound snobbish.
tbh i think that u should make vids bout wt u hav done in your life and wer u been ..you sed it mite count as showing off but whats the point of doin it if you cant show off i bet u hav some really good storys
I liked this one a lot. Your monolgues are never a complete unthoughtful nonsense, like many others videobloger on Youtube. Kept my interest up, and interesting and a topic of current interest (many "interest-words" in one sentence). Good video!
I absolutley love our older people in the world. They are full of wisdom, gentleness, kindness, and experiences. I especially love this guy. What a gem!
i live in Kentucky, which is about 900 miles from new orleans...apparently we are going to be receiving up to 4,200 of the evacuees. they will stay in hotels and/or shelters. it is truly heartbreaking~
Keep up the videos you're amazing and very interesting. You're making me miss my grandad!

Kind regards

I live near The Gulf and yes we are blessed to have insurance. I feel badly for the people who don't. It's not easy to pick up and move if you have no money to pick up and move. It's like a Catch 22. I would live no where else. My family has been here for hundreds of years. I have sand between my toes.
Thanks for showing your concern.

I wonder why you say you'll never go to New Orleans, considering that Bourbon Street and the French Quarter sustained relatively little damage from Katrina. The jazz and blues music is still there. I think that if you want to go, you should go. I'm sure the people there would love to meet you.
Cadwaladr 3 years ago
Oh, and don't you worry, please, that telling us from your life would come across as being a show-off etc. Just recall what wagon-loads of positive comments and messages you get!

Truedantalion 3 years ago
I would love to know about your adventures and you life! I love listening to my grandparents' stories and they're all so wonderful, so I would thouroughly enjoy yours:)
WorldofWit 3 years ago
The government should stop rebuilding New Orleans. Not one more dollar should go to encourage people to build down there. In fact, they should remove all the man-made dams and let it return to the natural wetland it once was! It's the only safe thing to do - evacuate and stay the heck away from the dangerous hurricane and flood-prone area of the country!
seanseanseanseansean 3 years ago
Sean, what you say makes perfect sense, and it's hard to argue against the facts . . . but Al Hirt's stompin' grounds is so rich in history and music, it would be a hard thing to do to let it all wash away. Considering how much cash we spend wastefully, surely New Orleans's unique legacy deserves some consideration, at least. Much like having Peter still here to spin yarns of years past, Louisiana just wouldn't be the same without The Big Easy, problematic as she is. Just an alternate opinion.
MSWmson 3 years ago
Wow. You remind me of my grandpa. Old and wise:-)

wildheart5 3 years ago
I will reiterate what others have said here,I never get tired of your stories and I certainly don't see you as self serving at all.I would love to hear MORE stories of your life and times.I live in the Florida panhandle of the USA,so I've been through many hurricanes. One has to prepare as best one can,but if a 4 or 5 hits, well not many structures can stand 150 mph+ winds.Ivan hit here in 2004, did a lot of damage especially near the coast. My worst was Frederick(1979),took 70% of our trees down.
silvertimer 3 years ago 2
When you think about it, most cities are built on large rivers and/or the ocean. Water is something we make great use of and enjoy playing in, but it can also be one of the most destructive forces. With New Orleans being below sea level in places & in a prime hurricane path, it's going to always be at risk & I know some people who's home was destroyed by Katrina-they just left for Birmingham yesterday. I feel really bad that after what all those people went through they have to do it again!

I have learnt a lot from my grandparent's from the things they have told me.
myoneweakness 3 years ago
Peter,
In all the time I've watched you, you have NEVER come across to me as you described in the beginning in fact you and your stories and your life experiences are what drew me to you in the first place.

Nice video, though I think you got it all wrong in the beginning. People ARE interested in hearing about your past experiences. The millions of hits on your previous videos should tell you that. Learning about the past from someone who's been there is MUCH more interesting than learning it from a book or a class, and you tell it well.
