I don't understand the demand for SG when you have fantastic mezzos like this....
I am entitled to my opinion. I think SG has one of the most mediocre voices around. What is there to rave about? The timbre has nothing special about it....
@rlee1976 Who is meant by SG? Not Susan Graham, I hope? She's great too.
Joyce DiDonato, Sarah Connolly, Lorraine Hunt are fien Handelians, too. Von Otter is far beyond her prime, but has done really marvellous things in het better times. So has Von Stade. But my all-time favorite is Spanish: Teresa Berganza rules forever!
Soooo musical! My favorite mezzos are: Anne-Sophie von Otter, Sarah Connolly (by far my favorite for Handel/early music), Kristine Jepson, and Ms Kirchschlager.
Anyone else agree? They are superb musicians, non-divas
And did anyone else notice - she hardly moved and it was still interesting as can be! All through the voice.
I think she's a little too feminine looking and sounding for Sesto. She was flawless as Sesto in Giulio Cesare in Egitto, where that Sesto was portrayed almost as grade school boy. So I suppose she's more suitable for a boy character, e.g. Cherubino, another character she was perfect as, on the Jacobs recording, but not grown-up men. I guess she knows it too since she doesn't really sing them as often as her other star mezzo colleagues do.

Sorry for another comment!
To me Angelika Kirschlager is wonderful and, as I have said before... "mezzos rulesss".
Surely Angelika has a permanent seat in the Council of These Wonderful "Rulers" ! THx-Luiz

she sounds fabulous here. Not so interesting on the recent Handel aria disc. Wha happened?!

Try her 2002 Bach disc instead. Better than the Handel CD.
