I love to hear all the different versions of this song and how people interpret it in their own special way.....its so easy to play yet can be so evocative at the same time.
this song was send from humans into space far far space with voyager 1
to express the feeling of loneliness to whatever may finds it... if "it" has the tech to play a gold plated record (it was send up there... or out there in 1977 they couldn't just put an MP3 player in there)
Awesome sound. That song and the way you play it gives me goose bumps. Great job playing a song by what I consider one of the a very underappreciated man.
I came to the video thinking it wasn't gonna be that great becase it is after all Blind Willie Johnson you're covering, but I'm honestly touched by the depth and soul in the playing. I really enjoyed it, thank you.
Wow, I could hear the love you have for that song in your sound. Beautiful guitar, beautiful work, beautiful recoding. Thanks for posting that. I recently bought the CD of Blind Willie Johnson after having a tape recording of it lost for years. It is so raw. You all did supream justice to it. My only request is that you do a remake with the moans. Obviously if you could play that so beautfiully, you have some serious blues inside. Let it loose vocally and let us hear it.
not a bad try at the tune imo. I dont think there is a harder tune to cover in history, the slide work on the original makes fredmcdowell look like his just learned to slide lol. god moves on the water is also a blind willie favourite of mine but i think DWTNCWTF is the best.
It's funny, you can learn the basic positions for this melody in 5 mins. To make it listenable for 5:30 and not even do the moan is remarkable. It's the subtleties man. I've added this vid to my fav's Mr. Bob Heaton. Good job!
Hi Chuck, the sustain is mainly down the tri-cone guitar and I attack the strings pretty hard too,my little Kodak digicamera bearly captures the real sound through its tiny pin prick mike, wish I had something better then you'd really hear it sing.
I'm so glad you liked it,I sure do love playing it,makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.The guitar is a Delta made by John Alderson in Leicestershire England. Thanks for leaving your comments much appreciated.
Beautifull stuff Bob, I could almost hear a little bit of Hank williams, I'm so lonesome I could cry, one of my favourites, thanks again for the music
Great playing Bob.Nice tone and feeling.I always thought I was alone with the love of this music....coming from a upbringing with narrow minded friends and family. Thank god for the net and youtube. Please check out my Robert Johnson cover a let me know what you think.BYW where are you from?
Big Thanks Big Frank,WE are not alone lots of folks have made this musical journey ,lets face it modern music has little to offer.I'll check out your vid.Bob.
