@serverchief - Thanks a lot; I'm glad you got a kick out of it. I still laugh every time I watch it :-) I've been using Linux/Unix myself for about 16 years. I still like Windows XP pro quite a bit, but every so often a virus takes it down. I have to keep a clone drive backup copy. Never had any problems with Ubuntu or FreeBSD or Redhat, etc.
Nicely researched. I have 7 on my netbook, and it's constantly locking up for short periods of time. I can't open the damn web browser without waiting two minutes! I did switch to Ubuntu, by the way-- it was installed before 7, and the interface kicked all kinds of ass. However, due to unforeseen errors, it won't boot into Ubuntu anymore. Ah, computers...
@TehNoobiness - Try downloading the Alternate install ISO for your version of Ubuntu. Boot that and there is a repair option that might help correct the booting issue.
@TehNoobiness i'm with you brother. win 7 may be a good OS (i prefer osx, but that's another matter), but it is WAAAY too heavy for netbooks. chrome os would be a better fit.
YouTube interface sucks. Youtube now is only a little better than Vsita. And Vista usability was the worst I have ever seen. I understand why so many switched to either Linux or Mac when they had tried Vista. It was horrible. I don't know about Windows 7 but if the GUI is the same as Vista, well, then windows7 is shit too.
windows 7 is like ME same smoking piece of shit, xp was the way to go and they should of followed it but noooooooooooooooooooooooo they make a new better pos os.
@Thrashfan21 Don't get me wrong, I like and use Windows also (mainly XP pro) - and it works most of the time fine. I have done Windows development also and overall it's good. However, for servers, I use unix. And Ubuntu is more secure/stable than Windows in my opinion. And when Win 7 doesn't work - for whatever reason (or it gets a virus, etc.) - that's when it falls hard. Give it time.. you'll have your share of problems, sooner or later, if you use it long enough.
@ray5961 Well i've been using Windows since as far back as Windows ME(Millenium Edition) and haven't had any problems with it. The last computer I had had XP and so I never experienced Vista but i'm liking Windows 7 so far.
@Thrashfan21 Sure, many people use Windows with no problems for a long time. You're 24, I'm 45. I have about 20 years more experience with using it, so I have maybe seen a bit more over the years. I also used to own a computer consulting company, so I have seen many boxes come through the doors with issues. Like I say, I like windows also and use it plenty. But I keep a clone of my hard drive just in case a bad virus takes it down. Have you ever tried unix or linux?
@ray5961 well thats good, linux is good and so with windows, I cant compare the 2 OS because I use them in different purposes...well anyway win7 is the greatest windows so far, eyecandy of vista + 2x XP performance....dont mind viruses at all, win7 surely will notify you if there is something malicious, its just a matter of paying attention to what it says....
@InvalidationCounter - Yeah, it saved my laptop, that's for sure (ThinkPad R51). Works great on there, but it had trouble with my SATA controller on another PC. I'm going to give 10.10 a try in a few months on a couple of other machines and see how it does. All in all, it's a big step up from trying to load a desktop in FreeBSD or something :-)
@kaubamaja hmm... that's strange. It's true, some machines it's not stable on. I had problems loading it on my desktop and my friend did also. It's coming along though. I'm running it on a Thinkpad R51 and the video is fine on youtube and VLC player. On hulu I have to run in 288 mode otherwise the frame rate lags. On my laptop Windows 7 crashed and ran super slow. Some days you just can't win :-)
@kaubamaja - I run 10.04 on my laptop and love it. You have to tweak it a little bit to make the GUI look nice. I still run Windows XP pro and like it. Ubuntu is really a very good OS (especially considering it's more stable than windows and totally free). You do have to put some effort into tweaking the interface (i.e. compiz fusion, etc.). But once you have it setup, it's really nice - especially if you are already used to running Unix machines. To each their own, however.

Windows 7 is the appropriate successor to XP. Vista was the real horror.
Just do a clean install. "Upgrading" is a joke.

KDE is so much better than GNOME.

Lucid works very well on about 75% of hardware I've tried.
It has rescued some otherwise non functional Vista PCs from the scrap heap.
Every release is getting better. I have high hopes. Keep up the good work boys and girls !
