This ending is humanistic, in which humans are innately good. I believe this is the only moral ending because the other endings were cynical and nihilistic and also defined by fear, mistrust, and arrogance. I think that's why this ending is considered canon. Although Adam chose to destroy the station, it was going to implode no matter if he chose differently.
