Banelli made the strait 6 in 1972 to 1974. Benelli took Honda's750cc 4,and matted it to half of another 750cc 4.When Bennelli went belly up Honda started making the CBX strait 6. It was for the guy who was to confortable on a Gold Wing. BMW should stick to flat engines,if they want to make a 6,make it a flat one like the Honda GL series.Only over price it,and make it so you have to be a rocket scientist to work on it. LOL! Concepts are like wet dreams great till you wake up to the mess!

I dont know much about Motorcycles, but im a huge BMW M Car follower.

Does this bike have 6 cylinders? As in the straight 6 used in their road cars?

@med1491 It would be a straight 6 but a totally different engine than their car engines (higher revving, higher compression, smaller displacement, etc) - but yes, it would be fast as hell in a straight line given the concept's specs - would probably handle like shit though.

Unfortunately this concept has morphed into two touring versions. Both gigantic sofas. I still think at some point BMW, especially thinking about the K1300R, will make really good use of this inline 6.

This bike is a work of art awsome job BMW . This bike should be built on a limited run . BMW would have a instant collecters bike for sure . Honda CBX 1300 , and Kawasaki KZ 1300 came out in the 80's but that was old school tech. Its like haveing a old Muscle car great in a straight line , but when it comes time to brake or turn best to think ahead .Leverda also made a six banger , but it was a V-6 . This configuration made for a better balanced machine. The Leverda is a very rare piece.

There were at least 3 bikes in the late 70s early 80s running 6 cylinders. The Dec. '09 issue of Cycle World did a piece on them. Lots of benefits, as I understand. I imagine, this bike is going to be ridiculously sweet.

This one doesn't come out. It's just a prototype to intoduce the new engine which will end up in the Touring section. For example in the 1300 GT.
