(25.25) "Tea, which was drunk by these two Islands in great quantity, England and Japan" Alan MacFarlane. Who was teased so much about his Scottish name in his posh schools. So to survive he had to become more English than the English. And more of a little Englander, than the most xenophobic little Englander.
Thanks so much for this ayabaya. I have been trying to get hold of this excellent series for years. Suprised it has never been repeated on British tv. Do you have all 6 progs?
It was in the middle of the night though! It's the most thought provoking piece of tv I've ever seen and one of the best things channel 4 has ever done.I've downloaded all 6 episodes from ayabaya on youtube, using realplayer.
oh, you don't know mike. This is his bad joke, he goes "such and such, you're such a standfor!" and the person is supposed to reply "What's a standfor" so he can answer "holding music!" You'll have to excuse his terrible sense of humor. Good job michael, you're confusing the masses
I believe you misunderstand me; my colleagues and I are historians in the Health & Industry Program (HIP), and we like to use the term "standfor" as a representation that the Industrial Revolution did actually "stand-for" the catalyst in industry throughout the world, and the "holding music" comment shows the social effects of the revolution regarding romanticism and such.
You seem to misunderstand me. My colleagues and I are historians of the Health & Industry Program (HIP) at Brown University; we use the term "standfor" as a representation of the fact that the Industrial Revolution served as a catalyst for the spread of industry throughout the world. The response "holding music" was simply a pun-of-sorts which shows the social effects of the revolution such as the development of romanticism.
I was waiting for this eagerly. Another generous effort by the professor. It must be sort of a compilation of various clips that i have watched earlier in his channel. BRavo!
Before tea we drank beer, the water was boiled.

I love the background music that goes "One...two...one...two....left...right...left...right..."
I wonder if I can find an MP3 of it somewhere?
