The kids might not understand everything that's been said by the president, but they'll come to senses one day that someone along the way, addressed them wonderfully.
You're successful 'cause a huge number of people has gone to your country. Just take a look at famous Hungarians. They were Hungarians originally but they recognised so that they could carry out they goals they had to get away to the US. It's not a critic for yoyu. Very good speech, I'm a college student and I'm from Europe so I pretty much get that. However, I seriously doubt that majority of young ,spoiled americans who get their asses wiped on every corner will get the true essence of this speech - no excuses&pure, hard work, period.

It is a great speech. I'm from Minnesota and our governor said that this speech would be a disruption to kids on their first day of school. I don't think he could have been any more wrong. Because most parents are not doing a good enough job inspiring their kids to go to school. What's so wrong with our country's leaders motivating our kids to strive for a better education? In fact, we need more leaders to do what Obama did.
I have to agree that some parents do not encourage their children as much as they should. However, the original intent of this video was not to encourage our children in their dreams and passions, or to help them realize what they have to do to accomplish them effectively. What ever happened to leaving the politics to the adults? I agree that children should know the basics - Presidents and how our government works - but what can I do to help the president should be directed to the adults.
Since when is it ok for politicians to provide our children with the discipline and inspiration that we as parents should be providing them. And if our children don't listen to us, what makes Obama think that they will listen to him?

Obama is admired by our children. They look at him and think if he can make it, so can they. Not any politician can give good advice to our children, if George Bush was to attempt something like this, I'd protest. Our children do not admire our President. Student all across this country refused to watch the President's speech. In one school, students elected to listen to their History teacher lecture than go and watch the President speech. Not one student in that class said in that class said that they class wanted to go and listen to our Presdient speak.
Bush was not a C+ student. that is a myth. Ths Pres won't even release his school records, so how can you compare. We know Bush was a much better student that Kerry because their records were released, unlike Mr. Secrecy here.

I really like how he kept it real, used real references about struggling youth overcoming many obstacles, and wanting students to be responsible for their education. Im not a very political person, but no matter what party you support, I hope that all of you will support Obama's message on education, our youth, our kids, and higher standards for our future!

Because most parents are not doing a good enough job inspiring their kids to go to school. What's so wrong with our country's leaders motivating our kids to strive for a better education? In fact, we need more leaders to do what Obama did.

I have to agree that some parents do not encourage their children as much as they should. However, the original intent of this video was not to encourage our children in their dreams and passions, or to help them realize what they have to do to accomplish them effectively. What ever happened to leaving the politics to the adults? I agree that children should know the basics - Presidents and how our government works - but what can I do to help the president should be directed to the adults.

Obama is admired by our children. They look at him and think if he can make it, so can they. Not any politician can give good advice to our children, if George Bush was to attempt something like this, I'd protest. He's a silver spoon C+ baby, he doesn't have the proper criteria to advice not even his own kids. However, Obama, well his criteria speaks for itself. This was a great speech.

Our children do not admire our President. Student all across this country refused to watch the President's speech. In one school, students elected to listen to their History teacher lecture than go and watch the President speech. Not one student in that class said in that class said that they class wanted to go and listen to our Presdient speak.

Bush was not a C+ student. that is a myth. Ths Pres won't even release his school records, so how can you compare. We know Bush was a much better student that Kerry because their records were released, unlike Mr. Secrecy here.

When's the last time any of us has seen a President speak so boldly and directly to youth and education? I really like how he kept it real, used real references about struggling youth overcoming many obstacles, and wanting students to be responsible for their education. Im not a very political person, but no matter what party you support, I hope that all of you will support Obama's message on education, our youth, our kids, and higher standards for our future!

I'm pretty sure that if Obama said that 2 plus 2 equals 4, that many Republican's would assert that it's 5. Some would do it just because they can't resist disagreeing with Obama, and others would because no one gave them a lesson like the one given in this speech.

Show me a child who hasn't heard that before. If you do, that child needs better parents or educators or needs to pay attention to people (be they his/her parents or his/her educators). I will admit that many celebrities and people that do not know you can be motivators, but I fail to see how "impressive" people saying common and regular things makes for a great speech.
I admire Obama's speaking skills. I suppose that's the extent to which I "look up to him. However, I've received better tips about education from watching movies.
P.S. Being the President does not and should not entitle you to being looked up to by the general public or even just kids.

I expect great things. As an educator myself, I give my students that same inspiration in my lectures daily. It's quite simple why Republicans "and such" are against this speech. To the one who says he/she hates expectations, the President only wants whats best for students. Without expectations, students are clueless. He might have 'sugar coated' it with "serve your country", but that's kind of his job, being the president and all. He couldn't exactly say "do it for the greater good" or people would have called him a communist. Whatever helps kids like me to get off their asses and work. And yes, you don't necessarily need a high school diploma or college degree to succeed, but it definitely helps a lot. Also, whether you believe it or not, he IS out president so you should give him some modicum of respect.

Excuse me, but I'd disagree. I don't know who you are or what you do in life, how you came to the position you are in now or what job you have or your life story, but this is a great speech. I believe he does care about us, which is why he's addressing us now here. The money thing; how could he not want money for our country when we have the most debt our country has ever had. Haha.. Umm Well lets see im in highschool, Im very smart im an athlete and i have a full ride to go to college as a junior.. Yeah obama doesn't know what he is saying.. and nether do you.. I don't know one kid whose parents don't care about there schooling... and the only reason i have gotten where i am is because of my parents pushing me to reach the best

Full ride to college? You might want to learn the difference between "there" and "their" first. And while you are at it, fix the rest of the grammatical errors.
