I've heard the same thing. Neil Schon was impressed by the power of Arnel's voice when he saw this video. So then he sought one with Pineda singing a Journey song. Pineda's friend, Noel Gomez, had posted 64 of Zoo Band's songs to YouTube. Schon found one of Arnel singing "Faithfully" and Journey's search for a new lead singer came to an end.

You got to be vocally talented to imitate other voices. Arnel Pineda can manipulate his voice in a certain degree that is more suitable for singing rock music. That is why if you listen to both Lead singers singing the same song, everybody taste on music differentiates.
