The Charge of the Light Brigade was part of the Battle of Balaclava which was indecisive. Now without looking up any of the other battles of the Crimean War, name one victory for the allies. Yet history remembers that one single charge during a three year war. They (the allies) did not win the battle but they won the war. So much for the history lesson.
Alma, Sevastapol, Kinburn, Malakoff, Inkerman, all allied victories . Balaclava was neither a victory nor a defeat however the Charge of the Light Brigade achieved it's aim. I think what Huskiesrock was referring to was the fact that the Light Brigade achieved what they set out to do despite massive losses displaying tremendous courage, their charge demonstrated amazing discipline and determination, for all the losses there is much to respect about the conduct of the fighting soldiers.

Its problem comes from the fact that it was created in the 60's and is full to the brim of anti-war sentiment. The Charge of the Light Brigade was part of the Battle of Balaclava which was indecisive. Now without looking up any of the other battles of the Crimean War, name one victory for the allies. Yet history remembers that one single charge during a three year war. They (the allies) did not win the battle but they won the war. So much for the history lesson.

I think what Huskiesrock was referring to was the fact that the Light Brigade achieved what they set out to do despite massive losses displaying tremendous courage, their charge demonstrated amazing discipline and determination, for all the losses there is much to respect about the conduct of the fighting soldiers.

Well, no, actually I'm retired after 45 years of working in my own business. Where did you get the information about going to jail? That's not true....and if you read a book, a newspaper, OR the healthcare bill itself, you'd know it.
Like Medicare insurance, if you decline a prescription drug program as part of your insurance and later sign up for one, they charge a 3% penalty which come to about 26.34 cents..nobody goes to jail.

Yes, the poem also touches on the positives of patriotism and how those who do their duty bravely should be honored. However, Tennyson's point was also that had the leaders not blundered, and had there been no war at all, those six hundred men would not have died. A patriot alive is worth far more than a patriot dead. He was acknowledging the bravery of people who follow orders unquestioningly while also promoting the idea that it may be better to speak up and save lives.

Now all the bill is in the Senate is just more stupid regulations on insurers, which will no doubt lead to rising premiums, esp. without a PO, which would induce "competition", although the track record of gov't companies providing REAL competition is weak (anticompetitive practices and whatnot). There's weak tort reform and few other things, but I wouldn't count on this bill helping cut our custs significantly or really 'reforming' HC. There are so many options NOT in the bill.
