Sometimes, if you're just beginning guitar, there are some things you just can't pick out. It took me a while to get to the point where I could tab a whole song or video on YouTube like this one; there's nothing wrong with starting out with tabs, as long as you continue to progress in your playing.

@FreaquedeMusique No apology necessary. I've been thinking about what you said, and here's my opinion: I don't understand why tabs get such a bad rap. Sheet music tells players what to play, just in musical notation. However, what you also get with sheet music are tempo, dynamics, technique, etc.

Tabs are different. You have free license to do whatever you want with the notes listed. Sure, developing your ear is a must, but there is NOTHING wrong with consulting a tab over a piece of music.

But this piece is really easy and he shows us perfectly, that's why I think this is a perfect start for starting aural training. Thats why I think it's sort of a shame that there are tabs for this. This is a perfect start!

Although even saying he exceeds Clapton may be somewhat of a stretch...Clapton has been playing for the better part of the 20th Century and is still a vital force in music during the 2000s.

Mayer hasn't had that tremendous of an impact yet, but give him time. I'm sure he'll make us proud when it's all said and done.

I'm looking forward to the day when musical pundits remember John Mayer as one of the most influential guitarists of the 2000s.

That's what you do when you're improvising and experimenting with new stuff, to a listener it could get boring. But it's not intended directly for listener, this is Mayer experimenting. It takes time to perfect something that you got going on. other words You should be thankful that he gave you the good stuff of this improv.
