@chojifanman10 That never happened, but let's just pretend for a moment that it did. Do you really believe that anyone who goes on a diet where they drink a lot of iced tea should be brutally murdered? That's stupid.
Every time I think about Terri I feel so incredibly sick. I was in the hospital in May, 2005 and listened to the tv as the media described how she was about to be legally murdered. She never had an mri!! I had scans but it wasn't until I had an mri that my lesions were visible. Only God knows what could have been done to properly assist her and it was one criminal act after another to hide to absense of PROPER care! It's called "professional courtesy" and doctors cover up for one another!!
Hm. I guess I'm in a class all my own. If I'm still breathing on my own I want to live. I dont care if I'm still functioning the way I used to or not. God will take me when its my time. And when its my time I dont believe any amount of measures taken can keep me here. She was still living and breathing and if there wasnt anything written down then they had no right to take her life. Her parents were perfectly willing to take care of her and should have been given the chance.
I believe that people have the right to choose to die but if Terri was pro-life then the assumption is that she would have chosen life. To go against her wishes is wrong whether you believe she was responsive or not (or whatever opinion you have about her condition). I'd like to think that my loved ones would respect my wishes, should I be unable to communicate them.
I don't believe she was responsive, that the family stated, 4 commands and a few seconds after they open. I agree with the court saying its just a reflex
@OogleManiac I believe the neurologists and other medical professionals over the court. The court had no qualifications to rule contrary to the medical facts.
You're a fool. An ignorant, ridiculous fool. That woman deserved to die, rather than waste away staring at a ceiling for another 40 years...not that she was even remotely aware of what was happening. It is a shame though, that she had to die, and yet your idiotic, moronic ass continues to draw breath. I reckon you both share the similar IQs; therefore, someone should definitely unplug you.
@mkmarsha2783 Why do people like you and Debbie Wasserman Schultz get so angry that a disabled woman wasn't murdered sooner? The extreme anger comes through in your violent choice of words. "That woman deserved to die." I remember DWS screeching similar words, maybe even the exact words, highlighting each and every word for effect, as the veins bulged in her neck. She looked like her head was about to explode. Where does that much anger and hatred come from?
You guys are retards. She was no more than a shell of life at the time of her death. She was in a persistent vegetative state for years with no improvement. A CT scan of her brain showed loss of brain tissue and signs of hydrocephalus ex vacuo. She was incapable of complex thinking, seeing, or even swallowing. She was pretty much dead. If she was kept alive, she would of stayed this way until she died from being old...
@KiddVid Yes, why keep someone alive if they can no longer think, see or feel? Personally, I would not like to be kept like this. It was nothing but clinging onto false hope for far too long.
@KiddVid Dr. Robert M. Veatch is one of the more popular advocates of death defined by the lack of higher brain function. There are others as well that support this, Google could give you more names. Why are you so determined that she wanted to live like that? If I were in that position, i would want to be euthanized. And it isn't because I have a weak.
@Lichstralen When did Dr. Veatch examine TS? Every dr who examined TS & every dr. who testified agreed TS was alive. Name 1 dr who examined TS & testified TS was dead. Dr. Veatch proposes declaring all cognitively disabled patients dead so they can be stripped of basic human rights. Every time he speaks about a right to life case, he advocates death. The facts remain unchanged. The reason TS was killed wasn't because TS was already dead. It was because TS wasn't dead, & she refused to become so.
@KiddVid I don't think Veatch examined Schiavo personally. And yes, according to the Presidential Council on organ donation, lack of "higher-brain function" is not a sign of death, currently. However, I'm just stating a point that I believe further supports the courts decision. The case is not as "Black & White" as you make it out to be. If you were to look at all aspects of this case, you would understand. But you appear to be attaching these videos of TS movements to her "refusing" euthanasia.
@Lichstralen No matter how many side issues you make up, it will always be wrong to kill people like Terri Schiavo. Call that black and white if you like, but it's a fact.
@KiddVid It is not a fact. It is your own belief skewed by your own misconceptions of her "fighting to survive." Look at the Nancy Cruzan case, which is very similar to Schiavo's. Would you call her whole family murders?
@Lichstralen There's your problem. You don't know that murder is wrong. Why don't you ask Nancy Cruzan's father if it was wrong to murder her? Oh that's right, you can't ask him, because his guilty conscience drove him to suicide.
@KiddVid Again, you are misinterpreting information to fit your beliefs. You think Joe Cruzan committed suicide because he euthanized Nancy. He was sad that his daughter was gone. To the Cruzan family, she was already dead after the accident, and they knew that she didn't want to be in PVS. Why would he have fought through both the State and Federal Judicial system to allow her daughter to die, then feel guilty? He just wanted his life to be back to the way it was before Nancy's accident.
@Lichstralen I wouldn't want to live like you, but that doesn't mean I'd rather be brutally murdered. Terri Schiavo was living with a brain injury. It was never a question of whether she'd want that brain injury or not. She had it. That was a fact.. The question was whether or not she should be tortured to death, as she was. The answer was obvious to anyone with more than a single digit IQ.
@KiddVid Wow. What a good way to argue your point by personally attacking the other person. Where did you learn that from, the playground? Grow up. You obviously don't have much value for autonomy. You would much rather pressure your beliefs on others (because you are always right), than have people think for themselves (Oh God forbid!). This case has EVERYTHING to do with what Terri wanted. It was proven in court that this was a life that she would not have wanted to live. Why argue against it
@Lichstralen It was proven that Terri was pro-life, and would have chosen not to be murdered. I argue against lies because God commands it. Why do you argue against the truth?
@KiddVid I don't know where your getting your facts, but it was proven in the initial court case AND appeals court that she would not want to be kept alive by machine. Look up the court file. I'm sure you can find it on google. This is the crucial point of both cases and is the main reason why the court allowed the removal of the feeding tube. It seems rather ironic that you "argue against lies" when most of your statements have only been misleading and false. You are the one creating deception.
@Lichstralen She was a pro-life Catholic. You may agree with the perjured testimony, but that doesn't make it true. A corrupt judge made an illegal ruling, but that doesn't change the facts. Terri Schiavo was proven to be a pro-life Catholic who opposed killing. Her estranged husband even testified to that effect when he was seeking money for her care. He testified that he promised to take care of her for the rest of her life, in accordance with her wishes. He did not keep his promise. He lied.
@Lichstralen What machine? There was no machine. There was food and water. She was swallowing on her own, but was denied therapy, tests, and even the right to eat food and drink water naturally. She was put on a feeding tube to save time and trouble, not because she needed it. Over time, she became dependent on it, but retained the ability to swallow, and could probably have regained her former level of swallowing, if allowed. There was no magic machine.
Your argument is flawed. She was given food+water orally at first and it did not work out.
No, she did not deserve to die. But, that being said, would of she wanted to be entrapped in her own body, just waiting to die? It was found she had very little brain activity, and I personally believe it would be hell to be able to see but have lost so much basic function. Can you imagine that?
@joelibermann The food & water was working out fine for Terri, but not so well for the staff who had to take the time to feed her. That's why she was put on a feeding tube. Some of the staff continued to feed her orally until the court awarded her a large amount of money for rehab & the only way her estranged husband could get the money was if she died. I don't have to play make-believe to imagine what it's like. Those of us who have personal experience are opposed to exterminating the disabled.
the only brain function terri schiavo had was from her brain stem. All cognitive (higher brain) function lost from her injury (severe hypoxia to brain). it may appear she is responding to her name being called, but people in PVS are able to open their eyes, unlike a coma patient who appears to be "sleeping."
I believe Terri Schiavo died in 1990, but was preserved by a feeding tube until 2005.
@Lichstralen Interesting theory. All the doctors disagreed though. She was very much alive. She was cognitively disabled, which made her a target for euthanasia by people who don't recognize the rights of disabled people. Those are the facts, like it or not.
@KiddVid "ALL" doctors don't disagree. It all depends on a person's view of higher brain function and how much value they put on it. Everything that makes us "human" is in our higher brain. All these movements, including opening her eyes, are not really Terri Schiavo, in terms of personality. She isn't COGNITIVELY aware of any type of stimulus; sight, sounds, pain, hunger, etc.
@Lichstralen Then name one doctor who didn't agree, and tell me what that doctor said that conflicted with the other doctors. I've been asking for that info for many years, and no one's been able to provide it yet.
Terri Schiavo had more humanity in her little finger than everyone who ever advocated killing her.
@Lichstralen I agree with you. These days people can live forever with technology... Would you like to hooked on a machine and live forever?
Think about it... imagine yourself unable to understand, think, speak, barely move or have no emotions and you are just a organism who breaths, eat, and have a heartbeat, nothing else. It's very hard to say this (because I care about humans) but if I ever get to tht PVS I would like to be euthanized... I would like my family not to suffer in false hope.
That sounds lik Satan talking to her, my GOD!!!! She is perfectly capable, and the way he says, Open your eyes so fast to her is sad, she is slow, andbut she can sense that he is an asshle, do u see how she raises her eyebrows she is like, u fuckin idiot im doing the best i can, and he is a pinched dick sitting there, open your eyes, good, like he has no care in the world that she is a brain on the other side and needs to be talked to slowly, and made to know that he isthere to help her. Whatadi
If one's personality, consciousness, memories, and basic functional abilities are gone, it's just not right to keep them there. I find it both disgusting and absolutely frightening. Cases like this show we can be gone at the drop of a hat. Us humans, we think we're so special and unique and we last forever and can truly make differences...when one wrong clonk on the head, a bad accident, or lack of oxygen for a while will erase it all, and then we are nothing but bodies.
@yaaah25 your theories are interesting, but if you ever bothered getting to know some survivors of brain injuries you'd understand. These are real people, not fictional characters that can be easily written off, just because their situation has become unpleasant for the reader. Brain injuries are real challenges confronted by real people. Their struggle is difficult enough without being put in the crosshairs of well-meaning but uninformed or misinformed do-gooders.
@KiddVid Regardless, this is degrading and disgusting, they have left this woman to go for too long in this particular case. "Real people" can easily be written off, when will you realize our biological situations are simpler than you think? Dead is dead, we're not each demi-godly entities who can come back with hope and wishful thinking and courage. We can die at the drop of a hat. Her personality was gone, everything. She was a struggling shell, and it's painful to see. Long gone.
oh god if my brain is ever irreparably damaged i hope nobody tries to keep me alive for fifteen years....i wouldn't want anyone to see me like this. pull the plug please.
Yep. She opened her eyes on command...once...out of thousands of attempts....one time out of thousands...that one time it HAPPENED to occur makes the thousands of fails null and void. Uneducated twat.
@KiddVid My $100k education vs your complete lack there of. Enough said. Continue preparing burgers with the rest of the people on your level of existance for people on my level.
@sirvegeta An education that costs $100,000 isn't worth a plug nickel if it leaves the student in your condition. You just keep eating those burgers, prepared by low wage earners, and thinking that somehow makes you special. You sure are living large. ROFL
@KiddVid Yep, because someone able to understand the finer points of biomechanics compared to someone screaming at their TV, like you, is definately less worthy of making such points. By the way, when did you pay off YOUR mortgage? Oh, you only live in apartments? Not suprising. Bet you jumped out of your skin with excitement when Obama jacked up food stamp benefits, eh? Now like I said previously, keep preparing the burgers for your intellectual/financial superiors.
@sirvegeta You reveal much about yourself. It explains why you don't respect disabled people, or their right to go on living. It's a shame you fail to see the irony of your disdain.
@KiddVid The irony? How about what you're doing. She was medically PROVEN to NOT have ANY higher cognitive brain function. Every part of her brain where anything she ever was was being housed was dead matter. Just because you lack the understanding of biology to know what that means doesn't make you right. It makes you ignorant. If I stand outside and cry for rain 10,000 times before it happens, does that mean I influenced the clouds to rain? That's basically the only defense you're making.
@sirvegeta Yes, irony. Look it up. You demand the death of people with cognitive impairments, but fail to recognize your own. Repeating your lies over & over doesn't make them true. She was severely disabled, not dead, & not transformed into a different person or another species.. Just because you lack understanding of these basic facts does not make you right. Your ignorance does not make you superior, or exempt from your own demands for the death penalty for cognitive impairments.
@KiddVid You are so uneducated you don't understand the term "brain dead". Sad, really, to have such a blatant lack of understanding of basic anatomy. Medically proven not to have any higher brain function including awareness, memory, understanding, emotion, etc etc. Say what you want. Repeat it as many times as you want. It will never make what you said correct. The medical community is 100% correct, and you will continue to be wrong. Go get at least an associates degree in SOMETHING, child.
@sirvegeta Brain death is the death of the entire brain, not just portions of it, nor even the majority of it. It is not synonymous with brain injury or cognitive impairment. Your lack of understanding does not make you intelligent. Your cognitive impairment prevents you from understanding this. If you were judged by your own standards, you would be convicted of brain death and sentenced to a brutal execution. And you still don't see the irony.
@KiddVid You're completely wrong and will continue to be wrong. She had NO cognitive abilities. FACT. She had NO awareness. FACT. You do not understand the human body or any basic facts of biology. You're raging on the internet on a matter where you lack any education, and will continue to not understand any of the medical aspects of the case. It is beyond your understanding and everything you keep saying is immediately proven wrong.
@sirvegeta There is no scientific basis for your belief in zombies. There are no undead, pretending to be alive. Medical science does have treatments for your delusions. You really should seek out these remedies. Hurry, before someone recognizes your condition, and signs you up for the Schiavo treatment.
@KiddVid Just saying that shows you have not researched the case in any way, shape, or form. Being a medical student, I understand what said studies show. You, on the other hand, obviously never will. She had no mind left. Medical fact. PROVEN medical fact. Read the reports, read the studies, read SOMETHING for god sake. Obviously all you have done is watched youtube videos. Nothing more. Keep resorting to insults, because when it comes to the documented facts, it's simply above your head :)
@sirvegeta So in other words, you're not just stupid, you're a liar. Because if you'd actually read any of the publicly accessible legal & medical documents you'd know that she was very much alive. Anyone with an IQ above room temperature could figure that much out just from watching her interact with the people around her. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that dead bodies don't do that. But it does take a liar like you to pretend to be an expert on brains without knowing even the basics.
@KiddVid Continue to show your complete lack of medical knowledge. And as for stupid, I'm in MENSA, top 2% in the country, while you are not, and never will be. She was given a PVS diagnosis. I'm sure you don't know what that is since you haven't read anything on it. Sent to a rehab center after incident with 0% improvement. You didn't know that. Evidentiary hearings, diagnosis, it all backs up everything I've said and refutes your claims. My argument is documented, yours is an opinion.
@sirvegeta LOL. You're a member of MENSA & Helen Thomas is a beauty queen. Anyone who's interested can still find most of the documents online. I'm sure some stupid/lazy people will take your word for it that the doctors all said the opposite of what they really said, the courts all did exactly the opposite of what they did, & medical facts are exactly the opposite of what they are. But some people will look these things up & know that you're lying. For example: PVS is not brain death.
@sirvegeta St. Pete Times 2/17/91 pg 3. Surgery performed Dec '90 by Dr. Yoshio Hosobudhi of the Univ of Cal at San Fran. Implant was a success, said her husband, Mike. Mrs. Schiavo slowly emerging from the coma, he said. She'll get @ least a yr of speech occupational and physical therapy.A Feb. 9 Valentine's dance spons by Vina Del Mar Island Assocation raised $1,575. To contribute send a check to Theresa Schiavo Trust Fund to First Union National Bank, 5250 East Bay Drive, Clearwater 34624.
@sirvegeta 0% improvement? And you claim to have read about this. So Michael and his doctors lied when they said she was improving? And you being in MENSA (or did you mean Menses?) you would know better than all the doctors who examined her. You're so smart you can diagnose patients you've never seen without ever reading their charts. LOL
@KiddVid And I never said she was PHYSICALLY dead, you high school dropout. Not once. Her brain was destroyed and she had no mind left, so I fail to see why you, the uneducated one, perpetuate an argument on the basis of something I didn't even state. So fail.
If they decided she needs to live they should her let her live.
If they decided she shouldn't be kept alive they should her euthanize her.
But NOT to unplug and stop feeding her. That's a horrifying calamity. Unbelievable. Very Hitler. Dying like that for days.. this has nothing to do with religion. It's the court and the" law" that play the devil in this case.

@isaiahwillis95 What progress? How many times did they film this? The autopsy supports the conclusion that this reaction was either random, or reflex in response to either sound or light; there was no higher function brain available to follow commands.
@excitope That is not what the autopsy said. Dr. Thogmartin, who performed the autopsy, clearly stated that you cannot draw those conclusions from an autopsy. Those determinations can only be made through interaction with the patient. Dead bodies do not interact.
@KiddVid Actually, what the autopsy said (and by the neuropathologist, Dr. Thogmartin merely repeated later in the report) was that one cannot clinically say that a patient had PVS by autopsy. What one can say is that her brain exhibited massive cerebral atrophy, weighing half of what you would expect, and showed severe hypoxic injury and neuronal loss. As also noted by the neuropathologist, this is entirely consistent with what one would expect from PVS. Dead bodies can tell you a lot.
@elheadkickio She's not fully brain dead. Most people think of brain dead as "whole brain death". It is possible, however, to have cerebral brain death. The parts of the brain that make you you (memory, personality, consciousness, etc) are dead, but the brainstem and other autonomic functions are still working away. In patients that are cerebrally dead you can get reflex action, tears, moaning sound, all sorts of things that are quite disconcerting to the uninformed, but it's no less 'dead'.
@KiddVid Actually, those have studied similar deaths generally agree that such deaths are usually relatively peaceful. It's somewhat irrelevant though, as the autopsy confirmed widespread brain damage; there was nothing left to be tortured. I understand, and appreciate, your respect for life and desire to protect the innocent, but in this case hindsight clearly shows that allowing the body to die was the right decision.
@excitope "Relatively peaceful" as in relative to being bludgeoned in the wee hours of the morning and left face-down on the floor, sprawled from the bathroom to the hallway? In that context, yeah, I guess her death was "relatively peaceful" compared to how she became incapacitated. No one actually believes that being starved and dehydrated to death while being taunted by a vindictive ex-husband having a pizza party at the deathbed with all of the victim's most enthusiastic enemies is euphoric.
@KiddVid Your hyperbole notwithstanding, yes death from dehydration in terminally ill patients is peaceful. Talk to some experienced doctors if this seems strange to you. Quite irrelevant though, as there wasn't anything there to be either euphoric or tortured - the autopsy clearly showed the brain was far too damage. Terri died long before the tubes were removed; removing them was clearly the right thing to do from any ethical standpoint.
@excitope You say that whether her killing was peaceful or torture is "somewhat irrelevant," because she was nothing. That reveals more about you than about her.
@KiddVid "You say that whether her killing was peaceful or torture is "somewhat irrelevant," because she was nothing" - actually I said it was because, as the autopsy showed, there was nobody home. Her brain was dead. Her brain was no more! She ceased to be! Bereft of life, her she brain rested in peace! If you hadn't nailed her down with feeding tubes, she'd be pushing up the daisies! THIS WAS AN EX-BRAIN!!
It's hard to believe you actually care about the outcome, given your hyperbole.
@KiddVid No, no, I don't worry about an 'inheritance'. Again, you seem to not actually care about the outcome if your main argument is to assume that everyone that disagrees with you does so for some insulting reason. If Terri was conscious or capable of consciousness, then removing the feeding tubes would be absolutely wrong. If Terri was not capable, then removing the feeding tubes would have been the absolute correct action. Autopsy confirmed the right action.
@KiddVid I don't agree with the case but it seems like Michael Schiavo did try his best. He visited her and had a brain chip implanted to try to treat her. If you look at her brain picture you can see the chip.
@fashionhistorylover he tried his best alright, but at what? The brain implant was a temporary device. The neurosurgeon warned him that it needed to be removed. After admitting the surgery was a success, & she was improving, he cut off all therapy & refused to allow the implant to be removed. The implant posed a risk of infection. Unfortunately for her estranged husband, it never got infected. She did get urinary infection that he tried to prevent treatment for, but the court ruled in her favor.
it was overwhelming agreed upon my doctors that this woman was BEYOND therapy and technically braindead for all intents and purposes. everyone else was a gaggle of bleeding heart morons that fought for their own selfish interests. your overwhelming concern to prolong life when only suffering can come of it only proves your own pathetic fear of death, which both undermines your status as a christian (if you are one) or as a psychologically stable human being.
@KiddVid name the doctors who didn't. the point is that the controversy was whether it was a 'persistent vegetative state' or literally brain dead. as far as i'm concerned there's very little difference, and sometimes there isn't a difference at all. but even if we agree there is a difference, I don't see why the outcome should be any different. there is no quality of life to uphold for the individual. a very sad case, to be sure, but mentally she was already dead.

Wow...i love how all the comments disagreeing with you get 'hidden.' it's pretty pathetic that a person can't have a difference of opinion without getting persecuted. wow. learn the quality of tolerance.
@standingonmyown5 The viewers who vote you down are not persecuting you. They tend to appreciate the quality of tolerance, and don't appreciate the intolerance and persecution directed at people with disabilities. Funny how those people who want to inflict torture and death on those they consider inferior think they're being persecuted if others merely disagree. Only about 8% of the population agreed with the verdict against Terri. I can't (& wouldn't) force the other 92% to give you thumbs up.
@ganixaba Yes, that is ignorance at its best. I take it you didn't bother reading the details. But even if the majority really had voted to kill off disabled people, it would still be wrong.
@standingonmyown5 You made me look, and you're wrong. The posts with the most thumbs down tend to be the most offensive hateful posts. The people I've argued with do not have the most thumbs down. You should see someone about that persecution complex.

wow....kiddvid.....you kind of seem like a douche. i mean just because penguinz doesn't agree with you doesn't mean you have to be rude like that. everyone is entitled to their own opinion you shouldn't treat people like that just cuz they disagree with you....i mean i don't fully agree with penguinz but i at least try to see things from other people's perspective and see what they are saying. he/she makes some good points
@standingonmyown5 Well, actually, no, murder is not a good idea. I don't believe defending the rights of the disabled makes people douches. I think it puts me in good company. If the only way to get your respect is to push for murder of innocents, tell lies, tell decent people "fuck you," and call people "douche" for not lowering themselves to that level, well I guess I don't really want your respect. I'd rather keep my self respect. It's worth more.
Honestly, if you couldn't talk, could barely move, had no life outside of a hospital bed, and had been that way for years, would you want to continue that for God knows how long? Why should she have been forced to suffer and live a miserable excuse for a life? None of you idiots can seem to grasp that. She opened her eyes, so what? I feel deeply sorry for what happened to her. However, for her parents to be so persistent in keeping her alive when she really basically was a vegetable, was selfish
@PenguinzRuleTheWorld Honestly, is your life so cushy that you can't imagine anyone with a difficult life actually wanting to live? Have you never even witnessed someone fighting for their life? Is your own will to live so weak that can't even believe that other people have a normal healthy will to live? Honestly?
@KiddVid There's a difference between 'difficult life' and 'no life.' Lying in a hospital bed, motionless, in a vegetative state is NOT fighting for your life. She was not capable of fighting for her life. She went 15 years like this. FIFTEEN. And she didn't improve. Why continue to make her suffer when she shows no signs of improving? It's different if you have an illness that still allows you to live and enjoy life. She did not. I'm sure she did not wish to prolong her suffering.
She was obviously capable of movement. Her eyelids fluttered and her head lolled.
I recommend looking up the Dax case, as it is somewhat similar to Terri's. However, Dax was fully conscious and kept alive against his will. He recovered, obviously, but was very impaired. He went on to argue about the right to die, etc. The way you are arguing makes me feel like you'd find an interest in his case.
@PenguinzRuleTheWorld Yes, there is a difference between difficult life and no life. Dead bodies do not laugh, vocalize, smile, cry, swallow, follow orders, fight to live, etc. Terri wasn't killed for already being dead. She was killed because she refused to die. She held out for a couple weeks with no food or water. Try that with your weak will to live and see how long you last. When her life depended on proving she was alive, she proved it. Dead bodies don't do that.

@KiddVid I'm not going to sit here on youtube and argue with someone I don't know. I have better things to do, and I don't appreciate you passing judgment on me and telling me I have a weak will to live. You have NO idea what I have been through in my life. So, keep your petty little comments to yourself. I have my opinion, you have yours. Awesome.
@PenguinzRuleTheWorld I was just taking your word for it, that your will to live is so weak you'd rather die than struggle to live. How was I supposed to know you were lying? Okay, so now you want me to believe that your will to live is strong, so you would want to live, even in the face of adversity. And I'm supposed to take your word for it? And use that assumption as justification for killing others? No thank you.

@KiddVid Oh my God. Shut up, please. I said I'm not going to argue, especially with a condescending asshole like you. Fuck you and have a nice day. :)

@KiddVid Oh and by the way, apparently you are illiterate. Never once did I say that I had a weak will to live. PLEASE, learn how to read and stop putting words in people's mouths. So ignorant.
@PenguinzRuleTheWorld I thought you said you weren't going to argue. LOL. You have a problem with saying things you don't mean, and then denying you even said them.
@KiddVid Hi, KiddVid. I have a question. Terri Schiavo underwent "passive euthanasia", right? In the US, is it legal for someone else to make that decision for a patient? Or do you need the patients consent in order to perform passive euthanasia?
@BarrySTFUSrsly Each state has its own laws regarding euthanasia. Florida, where Terri was killed, has laws clearly prohibiting substituted judgement, as was done in this case. It was unquestionably illegal, but the people are powerless against a government run amok. Euthanasia is also illegal, even with consent.
i'm sure if you keep saying "open your eyes" while filming she is bound to open her eyes out of coincidence. It's sad this woman was kept alive for so long, but I guess she wasn't in pain. Also a huge waste of tax dollars via her family. Glad the judge sided with her husband.
@jafajax She was in pain. That's why her killers gave her morphine and other pain killers. The pain wasn't caused by her living. It was caused by the abuse and neglect she suffered. She was not a waste of money. Her estranged husband was. He was responsible for the illegal use of taxpayer money. She had money to pay for her care, but her estranged husband embezzled her money and spent it on himself. He used some of it to pursue his desire to kill her. Facts are stubborn things.
@jafajax DEAD PEOPLE DONT OPEN THEIR EYES YOU MORON!! HMM MAYBE WHEN YOUR ASLEEP WE WILL ALL ASSUME YOUR DEAD AND BURY YOU ALIVE. TELL ME WHAT PAIN YOULL EXPERIENCE WHEN YOUR HEART EXPLODES FROM STARVATION YOU BLINDSIGHTED FOOL, I FEEL SORRY FOR YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS. HOPE U DONT LIVE IN FLORIDA, CAUSE YOUR WIFE OR KIDS DONT STAND A CHANCE HAVING YOU AS ANY OVERSEER
God did cure Terri of her sins. He could cure you too, if you wanted Him to. You could take your soul back from Satan and give it to God, if you wanted to. You could choose to spend eternity in Heaven instead of hell, if you wanted to. You don't have to worship Satan and eternal death, if you don't want to.
Im not talking sins, what sins can a vegetable do,talking about her physical condition.Yes he cured her all right by letting her die.Curing the disease by killing the patient.
@MrTabby5000 You choose to continue being wrong, even though it's been explained to you in simple terms many times. You continue to troll the videos about Terri, making outrageous claims. Is there something on your conscience you'd like to clear? Confess it to God, & ask His forgiveness. You don't have to keep serving Satan. You don't have to be full of hatred. You don't have to burn in hell. Give yourself to God. I can tell you want to, as you keep coming to me for advice. Turn to God.
you should probably read this article at tamabay news (search for article schiavo tapes). The video is kinda taken out of context I would say since the original material that the court viewed was 6 hours long. She did seem to respond to the input she got (forgive me for my engineering terminology) but according to that court she failed to in many other cases. @crammed174 I'm not expert in medicine but doctors stated her cerebral cortex was decimated and that controls those higher functions
@tevear54 The court didn't view any of the videos. Judge Greer is legally blind, a fact he failed to disclose to the defense. The videos were muted during playback in court, so the court didn't hear Terri vocalizing, or Michael's doctor telling Terri that she was doing a good job. All evidence in her favor was stricken from the record. Terri sometimes failed to respond properly, but the fact she sometimes did respond properly rules out any possibility of her being in a PVS, as defined by law.
@tevear54 DO YU THINK THAT THE PROBES PUT IN BY SO CALLED HAND PICKED DOCTORS HARMED HER AND DID NOT HELP, HOW DID SHE END UP THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
@BLUEGRASSJAMMIN The probes actually did help her, until her estranged husband denied her the follow-up treatment and therapy which was necessary, and then refused to allow the probes to be removed. They were designed to be temporary. Mikey told the St Pete Times (2/17/1991) the probes were successful, and asked for donations to Theresa Schiavo Trust Fund, First Union National Bank, 5250 East Bay Drive, Clearwater 34624, to pay for follow-up treatment that was already paid for by her parents.

No one deserves a life in a bed, unable to process thoughts and emotion. Her brain was half gone already, leaving her with minor functions such as breathing. She is an empty shell, and half gone. The "morons" are the ones who prolonged this torture and caused her even more pain and suffering.

The correct decision was made. She was a vegetable people. Opening your eyes is one thing, walking, talking, using your brain to communicate and have simple thought process is another. Nobody wants to survive on a feeding tube for the remainder of their lives. Push your religion and ideology aside and use some logic.

No offense, but i believe in the higher-brain dead definition. To me this is a lifeless body. A body without a soul. Her higher-brain is no longer functioning, only functions that are controlled by the brain stem, such as breathing, blinking and random muscle reflexes.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@KiddVid You obviously do not know what you're talking about. Let me ask you something, would you (if in this condition) want to be kept alive for 32 years? They know 1) Higher brain is shriveled, it was the size of a peanut, 2) it brought pain over your guardians every day, instead of grieving they had hope for something that was not possible.
@rawimpact Are you blind? Did you not see her open her eyes, in such an exaggerated way, after being asked to open her eyes? It seems that she wanted to make it clear that she understood him. How anyone can look at this video and say she is brain-dead is beyond me. I agree with KiddVidd, you are the one acting brain-dead and soulless.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@wildflower789 hey dumb bitch, did you look at her brain? It was shriveled, only function she had left was on the lower stem which controls functions like blinking and breathing.
@rawimpact Nice language, how old are you, 12? Anyone who isn't blind could see that she was not brain dead. You're believing all the lies that came from her thug husband who wanted her dead, and his hand-picked doctors. Believe what you want, she was murdered.
@wildflower789 Listen, any MD with a license to perform clinical work is obligated to report what they know. After a MRI scan they showed the condition of the brain if you can recall. It was shriveled... And you do realize when there is someone taken off of life support there is a whole ethics committee in every hospital that overlooks these MDs right?
Open your eyes, it was 32 years of wasted funds/space that hospital used.
@rawimpact An MRI would have killed her, because of the metal probes Michael had left in her brain after the successful surgery to improve her brain function. He publicly stated the surgery was successful, she was improving, and he was going to follow doctor's orders and continue with the treatment. After collecting the money, he refused her all treatment, and refused to let the doctor remove the probes. Read about it in St. Pete Times archives.
@rawimpact St. Pete Times 2/17/91 pg 3. Surgery performed in Dec '90 by Dr. Yoshio Hosobudhi of the Univ of Cal at San Fran. Implant was a success, said her husband, Mike. @wildflower789 I would like to add that Michael's hand-picked doctors all testified that Terri displayed some level of awareness. One of them testified that in his opinion, a patient could be aware and still be in a PVS. That erroneous definition of PVS, in violation of FL Law, is what Judge Greer spoke of in his summation, while ignoring all testimony that favored the accused.
furthermore, parts of her brain was clearly working because she had normal wake and sleep cycles. she open her eyes under command. she didn't need a respirator. she just needed to be fed and a dead "shoe" or inanimate object don't have this ability. to suggest that she was a dead shoe is disrespectful and say a lot about a cruel person. you wouldn't want to be starved to death or be trapped in a body but unable to tell the world you're alive and need help.
@BrendanIsCool you can't be a doctor if you think I'm brain dead. look at what I wrote. my fingers wouldn't be able to do that on their own. even if you're a doctor, doesn't make you right. some of the worst and greedy people nowadays are doctors. care more about profits and protecting their license than saving somebody's life. Doctors should always show compassion. instead, you compare her to an inanimate object.
@BrendanIsCool actually "questionable doctor", I'm not any of those things. rather, I support science, if done properly. I believe in Darwin's theory of evolution. Many of our prominent scientists in the past have been harrassed by creationists but without their many scientific developments and discovery, our standard of living wouldn't be where it is today so both science and religion are equally important. but we should act morally and treat each other with respect.
Yea fuck the people wanting her death, morons have no respect for the depths of actual conciousness. What YOU perceive isn't always what's true, only the person in question knows what's going on in their head and a lot of times they are aware but cannot express themselves! New brainscan's have shown so many patients in vegetative state to be aware at some level and even responding to external stimuli inside their brain
conciousness you need a function brain cortex. Terri Schiavo's cortex was ischemic for too long and went into necrosis. She was still technically alive only because she still had a functioning medulla (brianstem). Pulling the plug was the only humane thing they could do. And no, pulling the plug isn't playing god. Hooking her on the machines is playing god. If god wanted Terri at his side it was her time to go.
@mbennaars Read my full message retard, brainscans by experts have shown she was responding to external stimuli, exactly what is needed to be 'concious'. THis is more concious than you are getting pissed drunk like a useless bastard.
@razattack1337 The definition of conciousness is a difficult one. But in order to be concious you do not only receive external stimuli, you need to process them and be able to make an awareness of your surroundings. I'm very curious where you found the results of medical experts stating she still had concious brain activity. I've only seen medical articles supporting the vegetative state diagnosis.
o but it did and yes if your fucking retarded you deserve to die simple as that

I reckon you both share the similar IQs; therefore, someone should definitely unplug you.
mkmarsha2783 5 months ago
@mkmarsha2783 Why do people like you and Debbie Wasserman Schultz get so angry that a disabled woman wasn't murdered sooner? The extreme anger comes through in your violent choice of words. "That woman deserved to die." I remember DWS screeching similar words, maybe even the exact words, highlighting each and every word for effect, as the veins bulged in her neck. She looked like her head was about to explode. Where does that much anger and hatred come from?
KiddVid 5 months ago 10
You guys are retards. She was no more than a shell of life at the time of her death. She was in a persistent vegetative state for years with no improvement. A CT scan of her brain showed loss of brain tissue and signs of hydrocephalus ex vacuo. She was incapable of complex thinking, seeing, or even swallowing. She was pretty much dead. If she was kept alive, she would of stayed this way until she died from being old...
GuerillaCritic 10 months ago
@GuerillaCritic What's wrong with dying of old age? Is that a privilege you feel should be reserved for smart people like you?
KiddVid 10 months ago 7
@KiddVid Yes, why keep someone alive if they can no longer think, see or feel? Personally, I would not like to be kept like this. It was nothing but clinging onto false hope for far too long.
GuerillaCritic 10 months ago
@KiddVid Dr. Robert M. Veatch is one of the more popular advocates of death defined by the lack of higher brain function. There are others as well that support this, Google could give you more names. Why are you so determined that she wanted to live like that? If I were in that position, i would want to be euthanized. And it isn't because I have a weak.
Lichstralen 1 year ago
@Lichstralen When did Dr. Veatch examine TS? Every dr who examined TS & every dr. who testified agreed TS was alive. Name 1 dr who examined TS & testified TS was dead. Dr. Veatch proposes declaring all cognitively disabled patients dead so they can be stripped of basic human rights. Every time he speaks about a right to life case, he advocates death. The facts remain unchanged. The reason TS was killed wasn't because TS was already dead. It was because TS wasn't dead, & she refused to become so.
KiddVid 11 months ago 6
@KiddVid I don't think Veatch examined Schiavo personally. And yes, according to the Presidential Council on organ donation, lack of "higher-brain function" is not a sign of death, currently. However, I'm just stating a point that I believe further supports the courts decision. The case is not as "Black & White" as you make it out to be. If you were to look at all aspects of this case, you would understand. But you appear to be attaching these videos of TS movements to her "refusing" euthanasia.
Lichstralen 11 months ago
@Lichstralen No matter how many side issues you make up, it will always be wrong to kill people like Terri Schiavo. Call that black and white if you like, but it's a fact.
KiddVid 11 months ago 6
@KiddVid It is not a fact. It is your own belief skewed by your own misconceptions of her "fighting to survive." Look at the Nancy Cruzan case, which is very similar to Schiavo's. Would you call her whole family murders?
Lichstralen 11 months ago
@Lichstralen There's your problem. You don't know that murder is wrong. Why don't you ask Nancy Cruzan's father if it was wrong to murder her? Oh that's right, you can't ask him, because his guilty conscience drove him to suicide.
KiddVid 11 months ago 5
@KiddVid Again, you are misinterpreting information to fit your beliefs. You think Joe Cruzan committed suicide because he euthanized Nancy. He was sad that his daughter was gone. To the Cruzan family, she was already dead after the accident, and they knew that she didn't want to be in PVS. Why would he have fought through both the State and Federal Judicial system to allow her daughter to die, then feel guilty? He just wanted his life to be back to the way it was before Nancy's accident.
Lichstralen 11 months ago
@Lichstralen I wouldn't want to live like you, but that doesn't mean I'd rather be brutally murdered. Terri Schiavo was living with a brain injury. It was never a question of whether she'd want that brain injury or not. She had it. That was a fact.. The question was whether or not she should be tortured to death, as she was. The answer was obvious to anyone with more than a single digit IQ.
KiddVid 10 months ago 5
@KiddVid Wow. What a good way to argue your point by personally attacking the other person. Where did you learn that from, the playground? Grow up. You obviously don't have much value for autonomy. You would much rather pressure your beliefs on others (because you are always right), than have people think for themselves (Oh God forbid!). This case has EVERYTHING to do with what Terri wanted. It was proven in court that this was a life that she would not have wanted to live. Why argue against it
Lichstralen 10 months ago
@Lichstralen It was proven that Terri was pro-life, and would have chosen not to be murdered. I argue against lies because God commands it. Why do you argue against the truth?
KiddVid 10 months ago 6
@KiddVid I don't know where your getting your facts, but it was proven in the initial court case AND appeals court that she would not want to be kept alive by machine. Look up the court file. I'm sure you can find it on google. This is the crucial point of both cases and is the main reason why the court allowed the removal of the feeding tube. It seems rather ironic that you "argue against lies" when most of your statements have only been misleading and false. You are the one creating deception.
Lichstralen 9 months ago
@Lichstralen She was a pro-life Catholic. You may agree with the perjured testimony, but that doesn't make it true. A corrupt judge made an illegal ruling, but that doesn't change the facts. Terri Schiavo was proven to be a pro-life Catholic who opposed killing. Her estranged husband even testified to that effect when he was seeking money for her care. He testified that he promised to take care of her for the rest of her life, in accordance with her wishes. He did not keep his promise. He lied.
KiddVid 9 months ago 5
@Lichstralen What machine? There was no machine. There was food and water. She was swallowing on her own, but was denied therapy, tests, and even the right to eat food and drink water naturally. She was put on a feeding tube to save time and trouble, not because she needed it. Over time, she became dependent on it, but retained the ability to swallow, and could probably have regained her former level of swallowing, if allowed. There was no magic machine.
KiddVid 9 months ago 5
@KiddVid
Can you imagine that?
joelibermann 2 months ago
@joelibermann The food & water was working out fine for Terri, but not so well for the staff who had to take the time to feed her. That's why she was put on a feeding tube. Some of the staff continued to feed her orally until the court awarded her a large amount of money for rehab & the only way her estranged husband could get the money was if she died. I don't have to play make-believe to imagine what it's like. Those of us who have personal experience are opposed to exterminating the disabled.
KiddVid 2 months ago 3
this video is misinforming.
the only brain function terri schiavo had was from her brain stem.
Lichstralen 1 year ago
@Lichstralen Interesting theory. All the doctors disagreed though. She was very much alive. She was cognitively disabled, which made her a target for euthanasia by people who don't recognize the rights of disabled people. Those are the facts, like it or not.
KiddVid 1 year ago 4
@KiddVid "ALL" doctors don't disagree. It all depends on a person's view of higher brain function and how much value they put on it. Everything that makes us "human" is in our higher brain. All these movements, including opening her eyes, are not really Terri Schiavo, in terms of personality. She isn't COGNITIVELY aware of any type of stimulus; sight, sounds, pain, hunger, etc.
Lichstralen 1 year ago
@Lichstralen Then name one doctor who didn't agree, and tell me what that doctor said that conflicted with the other doctors. I've been asking for that info for many years, and no one's been able to provide it yet.
Terri Schiavo had more humanity in her little finger than everyone who ever advocated killing her.
KiddVid 1 year ago
@Lichstralen I agree with you. These days people can live forever with technology... Would you like to hooked on a machine and live forever?
Think about it... imagine yourself unable to understand, think, speak, barely move or have no emotions and you are just a organism who breaths, eat, and have a heartbeat, nothing else. It's very hard to say this (because I care about humans) but if I ever get to tht PVS I would like to be euthanized... I would like my family not to suffer in false hope.

Truly frightening.

@sirvegeta You reveal much about yourself. It explains why you don't respect disabled people, or their right to go on living. It's a shame you fail to see the irony of your disdain.
KiddVid 1 year ago 6
@KiddVid The irony? How about what you're doing. She was medically PROVEN to NOT have ANY higher cognitive brain function. Every part of her brain where anything she ever was was being housed was dead matter. Just because you lack the understanding of biology to know what that means doesn't make you right. It makes you ignorant. If I stand outside and cry for rain 10,000 times before it happens, does that mean I influenced the clouds to rain? That's basically the only defense you're making.
sirvegeta 1 year ago
@sirvegeta Yes, irony. Look it up. You demand the death of people with cognitive impairments, but fail to recognize your own. Repeating your lies over & over doesn't make them true. She was severely disabled, not dead, & not transformed into a different person or another species.. Just because you lack understanding of these basic facts does not make you right. Your ignorance does not make you superior, or exempt from your own demands for the death penalty for cognitive impairments.
KiddVid 1 year ago 6
@KiddVid You are so uneducated you don't understand the term "brain dead". Sad, really, to have such a blatant lack of understanding of basic anatomy. Medically proven not to have any higher brain function including awareness, memory, understanding, emotion, etc etc. Say what you want. Repeat it as many times as you want. It will never make what you said correct. The medical community is 100% correct, and you will continue to be wrong. Go get at least an associates degree in SOMETHING, child.
sirvegeta 1 year ago
@sirvegeta Brain death is the death of the entire brain, not just portions of it, nor even the majority of it. It is not synonymous with brain injury or cognitive impairment. Your lack of understanding does not make you intelligent. Your cognitive impairment prevents you from understanding this. If you were judged by your own standards, you would be convicted of brain death and sentenced to a brutal execution. And you still don't see the irony.
KiddVid 1 year ago 4

KiddVid 1 year ago 4
@KiddVid Just saying that shows you have not researched the case in any way, shape, or form. Being a medical student, I understand what said studies show. You, on the other hand, obviously never will. She had no mind left. Medical fact. PROVEN medical fact. Read the reports, read the studies, read SOMETHING for god sake. Obviously all you have done is watched youtube videos. Nothing more. Keep resorting to insults, because when it comes to the documented facts, it's simply above your head :)
sirvegeta 1 year ago
@sirvegeta So in other words, you're not just stupid, you're a liar. Because if you'd actually read any of the publicly accessible legal & medical documents you'd know that she was very much alive. Anyone with an IQ above room temperature could figure that much out just from watching her interact with the people around her. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that dead bodies don't do that. But it does take a liar like you to pretend to be an expert on brains without knowing even the basics.
KiddVid 1 year ago 6
@KiddVid Continue to show your complete lack of medical knowledge. And as for stupid, I'm in MENSA, top 2% in the country, while you are not, and never will be. She was given a PVS diagnosis. @isaiahwillis95 What progress? How many times did they film this? The autopsy supports the conclusion that this reaction was either random, or reflex in response to either sound or light; there was no higher function brain available to follow commands.
excitope 1 year ago
@excitope That is not what the autopsy said. Dr. Thogmartin, who performed the autopsy, clearly stated that you cannot draw those conclusions from an autopsy. Those determinations can only be made through interaction with the patient. Dead bodies do not interact.
KiddVid 1 year ago 15
@KiddVid Actually, what the autopsy said (and by the neuropathologist, Dr. Thogmartin merely repeated later in the report) was that one cannot clinically say that a patient had PVS by autopsy. What one can say is that her brain exhibited massive cerebral atrophy, weighing half of what you would expect, and showed severe hypoxic injury and neuronal loss. As also noted by the neuropathologist, this is entirely consistent with what one would expect from PVS. Dead bodies can tell you a lot.
excitope 1 year ago
I didn't know you could be technically brain dead and still be moving around, on command or not. Weird case.
elheadkickio 1 year ago 11
@elheadkickio She's not fully brain dead. Most people think of brain dead as "whole brain death". It is possible, however, to have cerebral brain death. The parts of the brain that make you you (memory, personality, consciousness, etc) are dead, but the brainstem and other autonomic functions are still working away. In patients that are cerebrally dead you can get reflex action, tears, moaning sound, all sorts of things that are quite disconcerting to the uninformed, but it's no less 'dead'.

Love the vid. Great example to show how easy it is for reflexes to fool family. Glad the final decision respected Terri.
excitope 1 year ago
@excitope The final solution did not respect Terri. For those of you who weren't paying attention, the final solution resulted in her tortuous death.
KiddVid 1 year ago 12
@KiddVid Actually, those have studied similar deaths generally agree that such deaths are usually relatively peaceful. It's somewhat irrelevant though, as the autopsy confirmed widespread brain damage; there was nothing left to be tortured. I understand, and appreciate, your respect for life and desire to protect the innocent, but in this case hindsight clearly shows that allowing the body to die was the right decision.
excitope 1 year ago
@excitope "Relatively peaceful" as in relative to being bludgeoned in the wee hours of the morning and left face-down on the floor, sprawled from the bathroom to the hallway? In that context, yeah, I guess her death was "relatively peaceful" compared to how she became incapacitated. No one actually believes that being starved and dehydrated to death while being taunted by a vindictive ex-husband having a pizza party at the deathbed with all of the victim's most enthusiastic enemies is euphoric.
KiddVid 1 year ago 7
@KiddVid Your hyperbole notwithstanding, yes death from dehydration in terminally ill patients is peaceful. Talk to some experienced doctors if this seems strange to you. Quite irrelevant though, as there wasn't anything there to be either euphoric or tortured - the autopsy clearly showed the brain was far too damage. Terri died long before the tubes were removed; removing them was clearly the right thing to do from any ethical standpoint.
excitope 1 year ago
@excitope You say that whether her killing was peaceful or torture is "somewhat irrelevant," because she was nothing. That reveals more about you than about her.
KiddVid 1 year ago 6
@KiddVid "You say that whether her killing was peaceful or torture is "somewhat irrelevant," because she was nothing" - actually I said it was because, as the autopsy showed, there was nobody home. Her brain was dead. Her brain was no more! She ceased to be! Bereft of life, her she brain rested in peace! If you hadn't nailed her down with feeding tubes, she'd be pushing up the daisies! THIS WAS AN EX-BRAIN!!
It's hard to believe you actually care about the outcome, given your hyperbole.
excitope 1 year ago
@excitope What would cause you to despise her so? Did your rich uncle squander "your inheritance" on his health care instead of leaving it to you?
KiddVid 1 year ago 3
@KiddVid No, no, I don't worry about an 'inheritance'. Again, you seem to not actually care about the outcome if your main argument is to assume that everyone that disagrees with you does so for some insulting reason. If Terri was conscious or capable of consciousness, then removing the feeding tubes would be absolutely wrong. If Terri was not capable, then removing the feeding tubes would have been the absolute correct action. Autopsy confirmed the right action.
excitope 1 year ago
@KiddVid I don't agree with the case but it seems like Michael Schiavo did try his best. He visited her and had a brain chip implanted to try to treat her. If you look at her brain picture you can see the chip.
fashionhistorylover 1 year ago

KiddVid 1 year ago 6
@KiddVid name the doctors who didn't. the point is that the controversy was whether it was a 'persistent vegetative state' or literally brain dead. as far as i'm concerned there's very little difference, and sometimes there isn't a difference at all. but even if we agree there is a difference, I don't see why the outcome should be any different. there is no quality of life to uphold for the individual. a very sad case, to be sure, but mentally she was already dead.

PenguinzRuleTheWorld 1 year ago
@PenguinzRuleTheWorld Honestly, is your life so cushy that you can't imagine anyone with a difficult life actually wanting to live? Have you never even witnessed someone fighting for their life? Is your own will to live so weak that can't even believe that other people have a normal healthy will to live? Honestly?
KiddVid 1 year ago 17
@KiddVid There's a difference between 'difficult life' and 'no life.' Lying in a hospital bed, motionless, in a vegetative state is NOT fighting for your life. She was not capable of fighting for her life. She went 15 years like this. FIFTEEN. And she didn't improve. Why continue to make her suffer when she shows no signs of improving? It's different if you have an illness that still allows you to live and enjoy life. She did not. I'm sure she did not wish to prolong her suffering.
PenguinzRuleTheWorld 1 year ago
@PenguinzRuleTheWorld
Nicdborger 1 year ago
@PenguinzRuleTheWorld Yes, there is a difference between difficult life and no life. Dead bodies do not laugh, vocalize, smile, cry, swallow, follow orders, fight to live, etc. Terri wasn't killed for already being dead. She was killed because she refused to die. She held out for a couple weeks with no food or water. Try that with your weak will to live and see how long you last. When her life depended on proving she was alive, she proved it. Dead bodies don't do that.

@KiddVid Hi, KiddVid. I have a question. Terri Schiavo underwent "passive euthanasia", right? In the US, is it legal for someone else to make that decision for a patient? Or do you need the patients consent in order to perform passive euthanasia?
BarrySTFUSrsly 1 year ago 3

Facts are stubborn things.

you should probably read this article at tamabay news (search for article schiavo tapes). The video is kinda taken out of context I would say since the original material that the court viewed was 6 hours long. She did seem to respond to the input she got (forgive me for my engineering terminology) but according to that court she failed to in many other cases. @crammed174 I'm not expert in medicine but doctors stated her cerebral cortex was decimated and that controls those higher functions
tevear54 1 year ago
@tevear54 The court didn't view any of the videos. Judge Greer is legally blind, a fact he failed to disclose to the defense. The videos were muted during playback in court, so the court didn't hear Terri vocalizing, or Michael's doctor telling Terri that she was doing a good job. All evidence in her favor was stricken from the record. Terri sometimes failed to respond properly, but the fact she sometimes did respond properly rules out any possibility of her being in a PVS, as defined by law.

@wildflower789 I would like to add that Michael's hand-picked doctors all testified that Terri displayed some level of awareness. That erroneous definition of PVS, in violation of FL Law, is what Judge Greer spoke of in his summation, while ignoring all testimony that favored the accused.

furthermore, parts of her brain was clearly working because she had normal wake and sleep cycles. she open her eyes under command. she didn't need a respirator. she just needed to be fed and a dead "shoe" or inanimate object don't have this ability. to suggest that she was a dead shoe is disrespectful and say a lot about a cruel person. you wouldn't want to be starved to death or be trapped in a body but unable to tell the world you're alive and need help.

samusssbm85 1 year ago
Yea fuck the people wanting her death, morons have no respect for the depths of actual conciousness. What YOU perceive isn't always what's true, only the person in question knows what's going on in their head and a lot of times they are aware but cannot express themselves! New brainscan's have shown so many patients in vegetative state to be aware at some level and even responding to external stimuli inside their brain
razattack1337 1 year ago 4
@razattack1337 @razattack1337 You can't kill what's already dead. In order to have
conciousness you need a function brain cortex. If god wanted Terri at his side it was her time to go.

razattack1337 1 year ago 2
@razattack1337 The definition of conciousness is a difficult one. But in order to be concious you do not only receive external stimuli, you need to process them and be able to make an awareness of your surroundings. I'm very curious where you found the results of medical experts stating she still had concious brain activity. I've only seen medical articles supporting the vegetative state diagnosis.
