I was testing if the artillery module works. Then I capture the movie with fraps and after that I place the extra soldiers in the city. My old pc could not handle a large amount of units. But you have a good point, bombarding a city with only civilians is stupid!

Yes it will increase your fps.

Since a few weeks, I have a new pc with a i7 processor an 8GB ram. I have noticed a huge improvement in performance.

my old pc has a Intel Duo Core E8400. Arma 2 is a CPU driven game. So the processor is much more important than the graphics card. At this moment, I generate huge battles in the mission editor with more than 500 units & tanks. Not a problem.

I own a Windows 7 Dell Inspiron Dual-Core. I can play the demo, but I think I need a better quality graphics card. How much are we talking for me to upgrade enough to play Arma 2 comfortably?

CPU: Intel Core 2 duo E8400 3.00 GHZ, price is about 170 Euro

Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8800 GT, this card is slow compared to the new generation graphics cards. A card in a price range of 200-300 will do a good job.

How do you get the artillery to just fire upon a city?

The mission uses a script that contains: the type of ammunition, it's target (a game logic), number of shells and the dispersion around the target. The game engine will automaticly calculate the angle of the artillery guns and fire.
